Chapter 50 The Fiftieth Day of the Beginning [Second Update] "Captain Yin..."

Day 50 of the story [Second Update]

"We are approaching our destination. Everyone, focus." Yin Yu spoke coldly, breaking the heavy and strange atmosphere in the group.

His palms braced against the stone walls on either side, and he touched something strange. He could hardly describe it; it was red, elastic, and even seemed to contain bouncing blood.

He frowned slightly and shook off the object in his hand. It was a little sticky, but it didn't stick to his skin. What made his scalp tingle was that in the few seconds that the object was stuck to his palm, he vaguely felt that it was trying to burrow into his palm.

Yin Yu quickly looked around but didn't find any more similar substances. He then warned, "Keep your distance from the stone wall and constantly check on yourselves and your companions. Be careful of foreign objects adhering to you."

"receive."

Upon hearing this, Tu Qiong immediately forgot what He Lianzhou had said. He tensed up and quickly scanned his surroundings.

It's so damn dark down there; there's no other light source except for the beams of light from the top lights on their helmets.

Even if their eyes are trained to adapt to darkness in the shortest amount of time, it will still inevitably hinder their judgment.

Of course, there were also the things He Lianzhou mentioned.

It was as if it came from another world, shocking and shattering the entire Guanshan Special Zone's long-held judgment and understanding of monsters.

They were all distracted, or rather, their hearts were gripped by panic.

They shouldn't be like this.

They are well-trained, but if the Guanshan they have always trusted cannot give them the most accurate information, how are they supposed to carry out their mission and ensure their survival?

It seems that the only person who was unaffected was Yin Yu, only him.

Tu Qiong once again fixed his gaze on Yin Yu's back, with an absolute sense of reverence. When they were in the same environment, Yin Yu's calmness and judgment seemed particularly incredible.

It seemed that nothing could frighten Yin Yu, Tu Qiong thought to himself.

He was like a guiding light, standing there so steadfastly, which put their hearts back on their chests.

He Lianzhou glanced at Yin Yu, lowered his voice, and raised an eyebrow slightly: "It seems you're almost there."

Yin Yu quickly realized: "So that's what you mean by IV tubing or something?"

He Lianzhou made a nasal sound, hummed and nodded: "That's not harmful. What's more troublesome is its star-shaped tentacles. Don't get hit by them. They're enough to make a giant grub like the Giant Grub faint in a short time, let alone an ordinary human."

Yin Yu's expression darkened, and he asked in a low voice, "What kind of harm would that dosage cause to humans?"

“That’s hard to say, but it won’t use the same amount of paralyzing toxin it uses on giant grubs to deal with small prey. The toxins it secretes aren’t unlimited, and it likes to eat fresh food, remember?” He Lianzhou said.

Yin Yu felt a little nauseous, but at the same time, he was also somewhat relieved.

He didn't ask any more questions. Following the drag marks, they entered a particularly low tunnel.

The low-ceilinged space was filled with a damp, humid smell and a nauseating stench, as if there were a large garbage dump nearby.

They had to crawl in, with Tu Qiong at the very back of the group to keep watch and make sure it was safe behind them.

Everything proceeded smoothly and orderly; they were professionally trained. However, the next second, Tu Qiong heard a rumbling sound, like an underground tremor.

His pupils contracted slightly: "Captain Yin!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Yin Yu, who was walking at the front, suddenly stopped, raised his right hand and clenched his fist, signaling everyone behind him to stop.

Tu Qiong breathed a sigh of relief, and Yin Yu also noticed the noise he had heard.

"What is that sound? Is that the monster?" Fan Nan looked around warily.

Zhou Zhou, however, didn't think so. He turned to the stone wall on the side from which the sound came, pressed his ear against it, and listened intently. The cold touch and dampness behind the stone wall gave him a guess, and he subconsciously widened his eyes and turned to Yin Yu: "Captain Yin, it's water."

This aligned with Yin Yu's assessment, and he immediately issued the order: "Check the securing devices!"

"Received!" Everyone responded in unison, and simultaneously found a fixed spot to "set up camp".

The group of people were like crabs tied together. Just a few seconds after the words were spoken, a huge torrent of water broke through the underground structure and rushed towards them.

The stone wall that Tu Qiong was anchored to was broken through, and he suddenly lost his balance. He was thrown to the front and then pulled down by the fastening device around his waist.

Yin Yu quickly grabbed the safety rope around Tu Qiong's waist. He turned to look at the other team members and saw that Zhou Zhou, Fan Nan, and Fan Bei were also struggling in the water, preoccupied with their own problems.

The surge of groundwater overwhelmed the narrow passageway, causing the force of the water to be multiplied and press down on them.

If a half-meter-high wave is enough to sweep away an off-road vehicle, then the threat posed by the wave they are currently facing is doubled.

Yin Yu had no doubt that if the current continued for a few more minutes, the entire passageway they were in would be washed away.

He had no choice but to grit his teeth and call out He Lianzhou's name: "He Lianzhou! Help me!"

“Of course, I’m always here.” He Lianzhou smiled and sighed, whispering softly almost in Yin Yu’s ear, “But I think you should understand the principle of reciprocity. What can you give me? You can think about that slowly.”

As he spoke, he opened his palms as if grasping invisible water, and with a casual wave of his arm, the surging underground flood suddenly diminished and turned a corner. The inflow of water abruptly decreased, as if it were pouring out from an unseen opening.

Tu Qiong, who was almost unable to breathe and was swaying precariously from the impact of the water, clung tightly to his safety rope as if he had grasped a lifeline, tilting his head back and gasping for breath.

"Captain Yin," Tu Qiong said thankfully, gripping his safety rope as he looked at Yin Yu. He was grateful that Yin Yu had caught him in time, and his lips curled into a smile, his eyes filled with the joy and excitement of surviving a close call.

He gripped the safety rope and struggled to move towards Yin Yu, panting and muttering, "That really scared me to death, I thought I was going to die."

Who could have known he'd be so unlucky? His fixed rock face was washed away.

Seeing this, Yin Yu breathed a sigh of relief. He grabbed Tu Qiong's arm and was about to pull the child to his side when a large piece of red, thread-like substance suddenly fell from the top of the stone wall and hit Tu Qiong's face unexpectedly.

In a panic, Tu Qiong subconsciously let go of his hand and waved it, and the water swept him several meters away again.

The object seemed to be sliding down his nostrils and respiratory tract, causing Tu Qiong to struggle in terror.

Upon seeing this, Yin Yu's expression changed slightly, and he immediately pulled on the safety rope.

Zhou Zhou and the others had also regained their footing as the water pressure weakened. After noticing the unexpected situation on Tu Qiong's side, they rushed to Yin Yu's side, pulled hard on the safety rope, and pulled Tu Qiong back.

Tu Qiong almost locked his throat, but after only a minute or two, he could only make broken "clucking" sounds.

His airways were almost completely filled with these things, and the suffocation made his skin turn slightly purple. He rolled his eyes, reached out haphazardly, and mumbled Yin Yu's name incoherently.

“Yin”

"Yin, Team Leader Yin"

"save"

Yin Yu's chest tightened, and he pursed his lips and immediately said, "Put him down on his side!"

Zhou Zhou and the others immediately found a slightly wider section of stone wall, lifted Tu Qiong up onto it, and laid him on his side.

Yin Yu took off the top light on his helmet and shone it on Tu Qiong's throat. Only a faint red dot could be seen, almost disappearing into the young man's throat.

Tu Qiong began to convulse, and Yin Yu realized that he didn't have much time left.

"There's nothing we can use to pull that thing out! We don't have any tools!" Zhou Zhou shouted loudly through the water.

Yin Yu understood this, and he immediately thought of everything they could use, but none of them could remove the foreign object.

"He's not breathing!" Fan Bei stared intently at Tu Qiong's condition. He saw Tu Qiong's eyes were tightly closed, and even the faint breaths from his chest had stopped. He shouted desperately, "Captain Yin! Zhou Zhou! He's not breathing!"

Zhou Zhou's eyes were red. He immediately laid Tu Qiong flat and began chest compressions on the young man. He muttered, "Damn it, if you choke to death and end up on that martyrs' monument, you'll be the most ridiculous one. Nobody dies from that, do you hear me, Tu Qiong? Do you hear me?!"

He could feel the sound of Tu Qiong's chest cracking as he squeezed it, but the young man in front of him remained lying there motionless, his eyes tightly closed.

Zhou Zhou's palms were icy cold. He was the one who brought Tu Qiong down. He should have known that Tu Qiong was too young and not capable of handling such a situation. He shouldn't have agreed.

He pressed down less and less, realizing he couldn't save Tu Qiong. He had broken the young man's ribs, but he couldn't make him breathe again.

His shoulders slumped abruptly, and he let out a gasp, almost in despair: "I can't do it."

He had never lost a single teammate before. He trembled all over, his hands shaking, and looked at Yin Yu with almost despair: "Captain Yin."

He didn't know how Yin Yu handled these things, but he realized he couldn't do it; he couldn't possibly handle it well.
