The work environment today seemed a bit oppressive. There was virtually no communication all morning, yet the work still managed to continue.
Around noon, Wang Lun checked on Li Ling's section of the wall and stopped them from adding any more. It was already quite high, almost four meters. Fortunately, Wang Lun had added some beams around two meters high, burying one end in the wall and inserting the other into the earthen cliff. Later, with some tree trunks added, these beams could be used to create a loft for storing hay and other items, which would be quite convenient.
Wang Lun told them to finish setting up the roof by the afternoon, which would basically complete the rabbit enclosure; all that would be left was the ground and partitions. Wang Lun vaguely remembered reading an article about male rabbits killing their babies after they gave birth. He thought so, but he couldn't quite recall. However, he preferred to believe it, as he seemed to have some recollection of it. So, after the rabbits gave birth, he kept the mother and babies separately, giving them their own enclosure. When the babies were about the same age, he kept them separately, with the mother rabbits in their own enclosure.
However, all of these things are for later, and they definitely can't be done today. But it seems that all the walls, except for the areas with reserved passageways in the bathroom and shower room, can be completed today. This means that we can start working on the walls and floors tomorrow, and it will be ready to use very soon.
But we should go back and cook now; it's already noon, and everyone is hungry.
Soon, Li Ling and Liu Ruoxi finished cooking the wild vegetable stew with fish. Of course, Liu Ruoling also helped, but Wang Lun didn't. Well, some people wanted to help, but they were turned away.
During the meal, Wang Lun explained his design for the rabbit enclosure roof to Li Ling and Liu Ruoxi. Li Ling had done some roof work before, so she understood it clearly. Although Liu Ruoxi had only finished the roof of a chicken coop the day before, it was still quite crowded, and she noticed a problem. She said, "There's basically no problem, but why don't we make that part of the wall protrude and build an eave in the yard?" Wang Lun smiled and said, "We had thought about it before, but our wall is designed for defense, and people might even be able to climb on it. If we build a shed, it would be difficult for people to climb on it." Liu Ruoling said, "Then why are there sheds on the side walls?" Wang Lun said, "Our camp is long horizontally and short vertically. We can build sheds on both sides because we have the side walls that people can climb on, and people can also climb on top of those sheds, it's just a little difficult to walk on." After listening to Wang Lun's explanation, everyone understood how to do it. So they continued eating.
After the meal, the four rested for about ten or twenty minutes. Then Wang Lun woke them up again and they went back to work. He was even more capitalist than a capitalist; even Zhou Bapi would have to admit he was a good person when he saw Wang Lun.
The four continued working, first moving all the materials Li Ling and the others were going to use for the roof to a convenient location. After that, Wang Lun and Liu Ruoling continued working on the remaining water tank above the shower room from the morning. Everything else was basically finished; only the water tank and the wall to be used as a passageway remained. Li Ling and Liu Ruoxi started building the roof. Wang Lun told them to build more, preferably to cover the steps leading to the shower room so they wouldn't be slippery in the rain. The two agreed; it was all the same work anyway, maybe an extra meter at most, and besides, it was for their own enjoyment, so doing more wouldn't hurt.
Before sunset, Wang Lun and Liu Ruoling had already moved in all the stones they planned to use for paving the walls and floors of the bathroom and shower room, completing the preparatory work. They also moved in the stones they planned to use for paving the rabbit hutch. They had moved some stones earlier when they were working on the walls, but not all of them; after all, the space was limited, and working at heights meant safety was a concern.
The two carried the remaining stones through the drainpipe left in the bathroom. Wang Lun passed them to Liu Ruoling through the drainpipe, and Liu Ruoling placed them aside. They worked on these tasks until dark before finishing. Meanwhile, Li Ling and the others had tied all the roof purlins and even laid most of the first layer of thin branches. Since they didn't have any dry grass or leaves this time, they simply used thin branches; at most, they'd just need to lay more dry grass later.
Speaking of hay, Wang Lun decided to go cut some more tomorrow. The remaining tasks were easily handled by Li Ling and Liu Ruoxi. The only issue was the quality of the water tank; it needed testing first. After all, the tank needed to be leak-proof, but under the current conditions, how could they guarantee it wouldn't leak? They could only fix any problems they encountered and pray for good luck.
Seeing that it was getting dark, Li Ling and Liu Ruoling finished their work and went back to cook dinner. Wang Lun and Liu Ruoling, on the other hand, decided to wait until they were finished before going back, since there weren't many stones left. They also needed to save some for the waterway outside, which would further reduce their supplies. So they decided to finish before heading back.
Before dark, Wang Lun and Liu Ruoling finally finished moving all the stones. Wang Lun returned to camp, and Liu Ruoling first blocked the waterway opening with stones before walking up. The steps were still dirt and difficult to walk on; they would need to be modified later. But they would use it for today and see if they had time tomorrow. If they did, they would modify it; if not, they would do it the day after.
After washing up, Wang Lun returned to the house. Li Ling and Liu Ruoxi were cooking, while Liu Ruoling sat beside them weaving straw rope. Wang Lun said, "Stop weaving straw sandals. We'll weave two curtains first, to hang at the entrances to the toilet and shower room." Liu Ruoling was quite obedient; she stopped weaving as instructed, tossed the rope aside, and started weaving curtains with some dry straw. Of course, Wang Lun was also weaving, since Liu Ruoling couldn't possibly weave two by herself, and besides, there wasn't anything else to do yet, so they just started weaving.
Before long, Li Ling called for dinner, so Wang Lun and his companion put down the curtain they were weaving, grabbed their stools, and went to the table to eat.
During lunch, Wang Lun outlined tomorrow's work. Li Ling and Liu Ruoxi were to pave the walls and floors of the shower room first. The bathroom wouldn't be done for now; they would build the sink later when Wang Lun returned, and then pave the floor. Once that was finished, they were to work on the steps leading to the backyard, using the same method. They were to make the top stone higher, even just one step higher, to prevent water from flowing down from the yard. They were also to raise the area leading to the rabbit hutch and add a waterproof step to prevent water from getting into the hutch. Wang Lun and Liu Ruoling were to cut hay tomorrow; hay would be needed in many places, so they were to cut as much as possible and store any leftovers for weaving straw sandals and mats. After everyone understood their tasks, they continued eating.
