After the meal, Wang Lun took out the shrub branches and began weaving, while Li Ling, of course, went to the pond to fetch water to wash the pots and pans. Li Ling cherished the pond very much; she filled a bamboo tube with water, poured it into the pot, washed it once, and then poured the water into the end of the drain. If the fence hadn't been so high, she probably would have poured it directly down the earthen cliff below. Then she returned to the overflow outlet, filled the bamboo tube again, washed the pot once more, and then used the pot and pans to fill the pond for a final wash. On her way back, she was about to place the bamboo tube by the pond when she suddenly thought of something else and took it back to the shelter.
Li Ling found a machete and split the bamboo tube to make a handle. She then used a lit piece of firewood to burn a hole in the center of the handle. Luckily, the bamboo was dry, so it was easy to work with, and she finished quickly. She then found a piece of vine, threaded it through the hole, and tied a loop. She then took the modified bamboo tube—now probably called a bamboo ladle—and hung it on the fence beside the pond for easy access. Back by the campfire, Li Ling noticed what Wang Lun was weaving. After watching for a while, she thought it looked like a cage and asked, "Are you weaving a cage?" Wang Lun nodded. Li Ling continued, "Why are you weaving this? We don't plan to raise any animals right now." Wang Lun remained mysterious, saying, "You'll know when it's finished." Seeing that Wang Lun wouldn't tell her, Li Ling picked up the basket she hadn't finished weaving yesterday and continued weaving.
Before long, Wang Lun finished weaving a large cage, about 1.8 meters tall, which was taller than Wang Lun himself, who was 1.75 meters tall. He then carried the cage to the edge of the pool. Seeing Wang Lun approach, Li Ling put down her basket and followed. Wang Lun placed the cage on the edge of the pool; because it was only about 1.5 meters in diameter, it was about to fall. Wang Lun thought it wouldn't fall too far, but Li Ling immediately realized that he was preparing it for a bath. So he asked, "Are you taking a bath?" Wang Lun nodded and said, "I could bathe in the sea a few days ago when we were at the beach, but now that we're back at camp, I didn't bathe yesterday, and I feel a bit uncomfortable. I sweat so much every day, so I should be able to take a bath if I have the opportunity." Li Ling looked at the cage, her eyes shining, and said, "Why don't I try it first?" Wang Lun said, "Sure, I still have to keep watch for a while, you go first." So Li Ling said, "Then you go back quickly and help me watch these cameras." Wang Lun said, "Go back first, you should also get some charcoal." Li Ling thought it made sense, so the two went back to the campfire. Li Ling looked for charcoal by the campfire, and Wang Lun took off his shirt and the t-shirt underneath, handed them to Li Ling, and said, "Wash your clothes after you take a bath, wear mine for now." Li Ling's face immediately became a little hot. She took the clothes and went to the pool. Seeing the cage in the water, she thought for a moment, then found three long spears, propped them up over the pool, and then put the cage on top of them. Just as Li Ling was about to lift the cage and crawl inside, Wang Lun said, "There's a small door behind you." Li Ling stopped, put down the cage, and turned around. Sure enough, there was a small door. It wasn't high, only about 1.5 meters, nor wide, about 50 centimeters—just enough for one person to squeeze through. Li Ling went in and said, "Remember to keep an eye on the cameras for me." Wang Lun said, "Got it." He then picked up a stone and said to the cameras, "Put them all on the ground, facing the other side. If one doesn't fall, I'll bring it down." He even tossed the stone in his hand. Seeing this, the staff operating the cameras in the distance quickly lowered them. Wang Lun gathered the cameras together, checked their orientation, and said, "Okay, I'm watching. If any camera moves, I'll smash it." Hearing this, Li Ling took off her clothes. Wang Lun could still hear the rustling sounds from the campfire, and a wave of excitement washed over him. He quickly shook his head and got back to his work.
About ten minutes later, Li Ling returned with her hair still wet, wearing Wang Lun's t-shirt and jacket tied around her waist, and carrying her own washed clothes. Wang Lun was taken aback by her appearance, then said, "Go inside and dry your clothes. I've lit the fire pit." Li Ling nodded and went into the shelter. Wang Lun called out from outside, "Close the door." Hearing this, Li Ling got up and closed the door.
Li Ling closed the door and sat down by the fire pit. Only then did she notice that Wang Lun had placed two racks beside the pit, probably made while he was showering. Li Ling felt a warmth in her heart. She then unfolded the bundle of clothes, shaking them out as they hung on the racks. She saw that her coat, pants, t-shirt, underwear, and shorts were all there. It turned out that Li Ling was completely naked except for Wang Lun's clothes. She thought to herself, "Does Wang Lun know I'm not wearing anything underneath?" A blush crept across her face. She glanced at the door, finding it still closed and untouched. Li Ling felt another surge of warmth. She quickly took her shorts and held them over the fire pit to dry. With nothing else to do, she looked around the shelter and suddenly saw a pile of firewood nearby, already prepared and ready to be placed over the fire. She felt a warm feeling wash over her.
More than an hour later, Li Ling finally came out wearing her own t-shirt and pants. She took Wang Lun's clothes to wash and then placed them on the rack next to the campfire, reminding Wang Lun to be careful not to let the fire start. Wang Lun said, "Okay, it's getting late, you should go to sleep." Li Ling said, "Now that we have a fence, we shouldn't have to keep watch anymore, right?" Wang Lun said, "Um, yes, but I didn't think it through beforehand, the bed is a bit small." Li Ling blushed suddenly at the thought of that bed, which was less than a meter wide. Then, for some reason, she suddenly leaned close to Wang Lun's ear and whispered, "We can sleep on our sides, it should be fine." After saying that, she ran into the shelter. Wang Lun's heart skipped a beat. He originally wanted to hold on a little longer, but then he remembered something else. So, he put down the basket he was weaving and hurried to the pool. He spent more than ten minutes taking a shower and washing his pants as well. Since he had no other clothes, he was only wearing his wet shorts. After spending over twenty minutes drying his pants and shorts by the campfire, Wang Lun put them on, moved his clothes back a bit, and added some firewood to the fire. Only then did he enter the shelter. He saw Li Ling on the bed, leaning against the innermost side, her body slightly trembling at the sound of the door opening. Wang Lun also saw this, but he was determined to sleep that night, and no one could stop him. So, he added some firewood to the fire pit before approaching the bed. Perhaps sensing Wang Lun's gaze, Li Ling involuntarily trembled. Wang Lun shook his head slightly, then got into bed, lying on the outermost side, leaving a gap of about ten centimeters between them, and said, "Hurry up and get some sleep. We'll start building the mud house tomorrow; don't be tired when we're working." With that, Wang Lun closed his eyes and slowly fell asleep. However, there was still a faint fragrance in his nose. It wasn't his own, but Wang Lun didn't think much of it, only wanting to sleep. Lately, he'd been on watch for most of the night, and he was already tired of it. Li Ling, seeing that Wang Lun hadn't moved for a long time, quietly turned around and saw that he was asleep. She quietly reached out and waved her hand in front of his eyes. Seeing no reaction, she assumed he was asleep and gently stroked his head before closing her eyes contentedly and falling asleep herself. However, she didn't know that when she touched his head, Wang Lun's eyes moved slightly. Because most of her attention was focused on his head, and her hand partially blocked the movement, she didn't see it. Inside the shelter, the firelight flickered, and the two slept on the same bed.
