Chapter 76 Fish Falling from the Sky

From initially reinforcing the shelter and gathering supplies, to later demolishing his own shelter and retaliating against his teammates, Zhao Yulong's actions all demonstrate his selfishness and self-interest, causing his fan base to plummet. However, Qian Xiaoxiao's failure to help her teammates also brought her some negative consequences. But Qian Xiaoxiao doesn't care now; she only cares about surviving the month. If she gets through this month, the prize money will be enough.

Meanwhile, Tang Shengli and Zheng Yun's shelter, located deep in the forest surrounded by large trees, was in good condition, only slightly leaking. This was easily solved, as the two had nothing to do the previous day and had woven two straw hats out of dry grass, which would provide some waterproofing. Neither of them had anticipated the leak. Zheng Yun had no experience in this area, while Tang Shengli only had experience as a forest ranger and had never been to the seaside, so he didn't know it would rain so heavily and the wind so strong. Fortunately, they had reinforced the shelter before the rain, otherwise they would probably be soaked now. Well, this little hardship would teach them what to prioritize when building the cabin. Because of the leak, neither of them could sleep, so they kept watch together. Luckily, they went to bed early that night and slept a little longer, which wouldn't cause any problems.

As all the contestants waited with bated breath, dawn finally broke. Even as the first glimmer of light appeared, some contestants braved the rain to go out and cut tree branches to reinforce their shelters or plug leaks. This included the Liu sisters. When Liu Ruoling walked from the campfire to the shelter to wake Liu Ruoxi, she noticed Liu Ruoxi's head was burning hot. She immediately woke her, saying, "Sister, wake up, wake up!" Liu Ruoxi groggily woke up, saying, "Don't shake me, my head hurts." Liu Ruoling said, "Sister, that's not a headache, you have a fever." Liu Ruoxi said, "It's okay, I'll be fine after a nap." Liu Ruoling said, "Sister, I'm not a child anymore. You can't participate in the competition with such a high fever. Let's withdraw." Hearing "withdraw," Liu Ruoxi forced herself to sit up and said, "We can't withdraw. What about Mom's medical expenses? We can only keep going." Liu Ruoling said, "But you're really seriously ill. I heard that if a fever isn't treated promptly, it can cause mental illness." Liu Ruoxi smiled bitterly and said, "Treatment? Is there any way to treat it? No! We can only endure it." Hearing this, Liu Ruoling also lowered her head. Suddenly, Liu Ruoling seemed to have an idea and said, "Sister, let's go check where the smoke is coming from. If they can save you, then we'll beg them to save you. We'll give them all our meat, and if that doesn't work, we can give them a tool or two. If they can't save you, then we'll back out. I don't want anything to happen to you." Liu Ruoxi stared at Liu Ruoling and said, "Are we really going to do that? You know, it's uncertain whether we can even find them, and whether they'll even exist is also an unknown." Liu Ruoling said, "Sister, we can only take a gamble. We have no other choice but to hope for good luck." Liu Ruoxi looked at Liu Ruoling for a while and said, "Alright, I'll listen to you. If we really can't find them, then we'll go back and think of another way." Hearing Liu Ruoxi's agreement, Liu Ruoling immediately got up to pack her things, taking all the tools with her and putting all the meat into a basket, covering it with a layer of dry grass. Then she helped Liu Ruoxi up, draped a deerskin over her shoulders, and the two of them, leaning on their spears, left the camp and headed towards the place where the smoke was rising. Nobody knows if they will succeed; let's hope they are lucky.

As dawn broke, Wang Lun put down the straw sandals he had just finished weaving, opened the door, and saw that it was still raining outside. He put on a straw hat, changed into a new pair of straw sandals, and went outside to check the situation inside and outside the camp. Everything was fine outside; after all, the thick wall provided cover, and there was nothing else amiss. Inside the camp, however, things were a bit strange. Several fish had appeared in the pond, their origin unknown, perhaps blown in by the wind. Some grass had been blown away from the shelter by the strong wind, but it could be reinforced later. The shed against the wall was slightly warped by the wind. Wang Lun climbed up a ladder and inspected the roof and shed, finding nothing wrong with them, except for the extra fish. He collected the fish with a stick; there were twenty-one, enough to eat for a while. Wang Lun took the fish to the pond, cleaned them, discarding the inedible parts and collecting the edible ones. Only then did he return to the shed.

Back in the house, Wang Lun said to Li Ling, "We're having fresh fish for breakfast this morning, fish soup." Li Ling, still lying on the kang (heated brick bed), without looking up, said, "It's raining outside, where are we going to catch fish? Don't try to fool me, I don't believe you." Wang Lun put down the basket of fish, took one, walked to the edge of the kang, and used the fish's tail to tickle Li Ling's foot, saying, "Look up." Li Ling couldn't resist the tickling sensation and looked up. She saw a fish in Wang Lun's hand and immediately climbed to the edge of the kang, ignoring Wang Lun's earlier teasing, and asked, "Where did this come from?" She was about to reach for it when Wang Lun slapped her, saying: "Don't touch them! Clean hands aren't allowed." Li Ling withdrew her hand after it was slapped and said, "Fine, I won't touch them then. Tell me, where did the fish come from?" Wang Lun laughed and said, "They fell from the sky." Li Ling looked at Wang Lun like he was an idiot. Wang Lun felt a little embarrassed by Li Ling's gaze, so he went to get the basket of fish and said, "Look, so many." Li Ling reached out and touched Wang Lun's forehead and said, "You don't have a fever, why are you talking nonsense?" Wang Lun was annoyed by Li Ling's words and said, "Get up quickly, come with me to see, there are still a few live fish in the pond." This made Li Ling even more certain that she had a fever. Seeing that Li Ling was still looking at him like that, Wang Lun put down the basket of fish, picked up Li Ling, and walked towards the pond. Li Ling was startled at first, thinking that Wang Lun was going to do something. In broad daylight, this wasn't appropriate. After Wang Lun stepped outside, Li Ling, who had been soaked by the rain, snapped out of her daze and said, "What? It's still raining outside!" Wang Lun ignored her and went straight to the pond, saying, "Look, there are fish." Li Ling turned her head and indeed saw several fish swimming in the water. Once Li Ling saw them, Wang Lun picked them up and carried them back, ignoring Li Ling's cries for another look to confirm they were indeed fish. Back inside, Wang Lun put Li Ling on the kang (heated brick bed) and said, "Go if you want, but remember to change your shoes and wear a straw hat so you don't get wet." Li Ling said, "Why weren't you worried about me getting wet?" Wang Lun said, "How many fish do you want to eat?" Li Ling got off the kang and said, "One is enough for me." She then ran to the door, changed into straw sandals, put on a straw hat, and went to the pond to look at the fish. Wang Lun picked up a fish from the basket, suddenly remembered that this fish seemed to have touched Li Ling's foot, smiled, and then picked up the basket to wash the fish again.
