Chapter 12

Chapter 12

It was a young female voice with an accent.

I quickly found a place to transform back into a cat.

I followed the sound, hid in the holly bushes and watched, and found that it was indeed a thin, sweet-looking girl.

"Huang Huang, where are you, Huang Huang...?"

She lowered her head and looked around anxiously, holding a few cat strips in her hands, probably looking for the missing cat.

I stuck my head out, and she saw me in an instant.

At first she was stunned, and her eyes were probably confirming whether I was her cat.

But obviously, perhaps my fur color was very different from that of her cat, and she woke up in an instant. After being disappointed, she seemed to have seen a savior, and she was surprised. She suddenly walked towards me, and the wind made her clothes wavy.

"Excuse me, are you a particularly powerful wild tabby cat?"

A tabby cat is a tabby cat, what the hell is a wild tabby cat?

I sat upright, looking up at her proudly.

I've seen this look before in many places, and I can tell at a glance that she's a distinctive Western girl. Her nose is sharp and straight, her lips are full and rosy, and her eyes, nestled in sunken sockets beneath thick, slender lashes, are like a clear lake moistened by the snow of the Kunlun Mountains, rippling with wild power and outlining profound Western characteristics.

She knew I was a cat and guessed I didn't understand her, so she continued, "I heard you guys at Tabby Cats have a wide range of business and are the best cat experts. My cat got lost this morning. It's a neutered female, yellow and white, about the same size as you, with a tuft of black hair on its head. Can you help me find it?"

After saying that, without waiting for my consent, she offered the cat strips in her hand and said that there would also be freeze-dried ones if I found them.

The old couple never lacked snacks for Li Ying'an, but I would also be happy if I could have enough food and clothing myself. After all, this would relieve some of the pressure on Li Ying'an.

I moved closer to the girl and sniffed the scent of her colorful cotton skirt. After recording it in my brain, I meowed and left.

This wasn't the first time I'd found someone's cat. My motivation for doing it before was simple: to get a snack, and maybe even a good meal from a kindhearted person.

Now, part of the reason why I accept orders is like a child caring about an adult. I try my best to get a share of the fruits of my labor so that Li Ying'an can worry less.

After all, kitten food does cost a lot of money. It seems that if we want to save money for Li Ying'an, we have to start with cat food.

I tiptoed, following the smell, lightly walking through the streets and alleys.

On a warm spring evening, a faint fragrance floats in the air. The branches that are about to sprout, after being exposed to the warmth of the sun, cast shadows all over the ground, like a net, catching all things running on the earth, and also catching the light me.

Through the gaps created by the intersecting branches, I stopped unconsciously, and then looked up at the sky like a human.

The sky, still tinged with the day's warmth, was a brilliant yellow. It was a beautiful day, and the wind seemed to tickle me.

I enjoyed this time, although for me, after coming down from heaven, apart from worrying about finding Xiaoju, the rest of the time was very relaxing. I walked forward with my head held high and my cat-like steps, and suddenly, without paying attention, a blind stone startled me and sent me flying.

Furious, I suddenly lay down in a low hunting posture, shaking my hind legs, then suddenly kicked my legs and pounced on the stone with my front paws, swinging it back and forth like crazy.

I played with it like a soccer ball for a long time, until I got tired, hugged a branch, lay on my side and kicked my hind legs. A piece of plastic sheet fluttered by, and I jumped in alarm before continuing on.

When I noticed a stranger in front of me, my long and thin beard immediately caught the invisible net and my steps stopped.

It was him...

I still recognize that boy. He is the blue-eyed boy I saw when I was strolling in the park before.

Looking more closely, I saw that he was holding a yellow and white kitten in his arms. The kitten looked dying. By the smell I could tell that it was the kitten of the girl who asked me for help.

People would definitely not hand over a sick cat to a defenseless kitten. Moreover, it seemed that the boy was a cat lover, and he would definitely not abandon the kitten in his arms.

Maybe by then he will take me away.

Now it seems that I can only transform into human form again.

When I walked up to the boy, he was obviously startled by my sudden appearance.

Just because I know him doesn't mean he knows me, so I didn't waste any time and got straight to the point.

I pointed at the cat in his arms, then turned back and pointed at myself: This is my cat, please give it back to me.

The boy blinked and asked with a smile, "Yours?"

I nodded quickly at his cleverness: Hmm.

But he didn't give me the cat. Instead, he hugged it even tighter. He seemed to distrust me. His clear blue eyes hid a smile as he looked me up and down. "Do you have anything to prove it's your cat?"

He was very alert, which disgusted me at first, but then I thought about his behavior in the park before, and I couldn't help but admire him.

To him, I am just a stranger. The best way to protect cats is to ask the person who is looking for cats all kinds of questions, so as to judge whether the other person loves cats or abuses cats.

I thought of the girl calling the kitten's name, so I gestured with my hands: Its name is Huang Huang, if you don't believe me, you can call it.

The boy frowned: "Sorry, I don't understand sign language."

I was very upset about this and looked around but couldn't find anything that could help. I just gave up and pointed at the cat's yellow fur and mouthed to the boy: Huang Huang is its name.

This time the boy finally understood: "Is it called Huang Huang?"

I nodded almost with joy: Its name is Huang Huang!

The boy lowered his head and tentatively called out, "Huang Huang?"

The cat in my arms responded faintly and consciously.

After that, there was a long period of silence. The only sound surrounding the two of them was the sound of cars on the road not far away.

Seeing that he was still hesitant, I relied on the unique scent of a girl's body and moved closer to Huang Huang. Even though Huang Huang was unconscious now, he would instinctively get closer to me.

I raised my head slightly, and my eyes clearly showed that you could trust me.

This time, the boy stopped arguing with me and took the initiative to hand the half-conscious Huang Huang to me, explaining to me: "It was already dying when I found it."

I mouthed: Did you see who bullied it?

I spoke slowly, but the boy who didn't understand spoken or sign language was still confused and couldn't understand after thinking about it.

Then he took out his cell phone: "You come and type."

Looking at this phone, I shook my head: I can't type.

This time the boy barely understood what I meant. He looked a little surprised: "So you can't read?"

I nodded without any hesitation.

Although the boy, like Li Ying'an, is taller than me, I guess he is about the same age as me.

At this moment, after learning that I was illiterate, there was no mockery in his eyes. Instead, he gave me a pitiful look and then stared at me with a thoughtful look, which made me feel creepy.

"Do you want to know how I found Huang Huang?"

I nodded quickly while marveling at his cleverness.

The boy walked up to me and gently stroked Huang Huang, who was lying in my arms. "When I saw him, he was already unconscious. He was surrounded by several boys around my age. I threatened them by saying I had recorded the incident and was going to report it to the government that helps stray cats. So they abandoned the cat and ran away, threatening to kill me before leaving."

At the end of his words, he couldn't help laughing out loud.

There were many emotions mixed in that laughter, but all I could hear was disdain. He didn't care about the provocations at all.

But I didn't think much about it, because I was deeply attracted by the content of his words. The boys he mentioned made me think of Teng Zheng, whom I met in the alley a few days ago.

I firmly label Teng Zheng a cat abuser!

"Are you angry?" The boy noticed my mood.

I was stunned and quickly controlled myself. I held Huang Huang tightly in my left arm, then looked up at the boy, stretched out my right hand, nodded my thumb, and pointed clearly at the other person: Thank you.

"Do you mean thank me?" the boy asked with a smile.

I was surprised: Didn’t you just say you couldn’t understand sign language?

The boy didn't take it seriously: "If you can't learn long sentences, can't you learn short ones? I still know basic sign language like this."

Seeing that I understood, he stepped back and kindly emphasized to me that some people had recently taken advantage of the stray cat rescue campaign to target some unlucky furry creatures, and asked me to pay more attention to Huang Huang.

I nodded to him in thanks and was about to leave.

Suddenly, a hand crossed my chest and stopped me.

The boy asked me a question: "Since you can't speak, why does Huang Huang respond when you call him?"

...Oh no!

How could a mute name a kitten?

Just when I was wondering if I could escape the tiger's clutches if I ran because I couldn't come up with a reason in time, the boy who asked the question came to my rescue: "The neighbors call it Huang Huang?"

I nodded quickly, not caring that I couldn't make a sound, and opened my mouth to lip-sync: My neighbors always call it, so I'm familiar with it.

The boy didn't continue talking. He looked down at me with his light blue eyes, and the corners of his mouth raised to reveal a faint smile.

I always feel that the way he looks at me and the way he looks at a cat are different.

Staying any longer would be a torture for me, so I simply pointed the way home: If there is nothing else, I'll leave.

"Go home," he said. "Be safe."

His words seemed to be a pardon for me. Before I could hide the smile in my eyes, he ran away without a trace.

My mind was full of the scene just now, and I didn’t even think that I hadn’t turned back into a cat until I walked downstairs to the apartment.

"Huang Huang!"

From a distance, I heard someone shouting at me. I was startled, and my hands suddenly became light.

"Huang Huang, why don't you open your eyes and look at your mother?"

The girl hugged Huang Huang and shouted anxiously. Seeing Huang Huang squinting his eyes and not responding, she was about to cry, "What's wrong with you, Huang Huang? Mommy will take you to the hospital now, okay?"

I stood aside, listening to the girl's trembling sobbing voice, thinking that I should leave early, but unexpectedly my leg speed was slower than the girl's hand speed, and she grabbed me.

"Thank you for helping me find Huang Huang." The girl said anxiously, "But can you accompany me to the hospital first?"

To avoid unnecessary misunderstandings, I decided to tell a little lie and explain to the girl how I brought Huang Huang home.

Five minutes later, I got on the bus with the girl holding the cat.

Due to the remote location, it takes nearly half an hour to get to the nearest pet hospital. During the ride, the girl was always concerned about her pet and completely ignored my presence next to her.

It was my first time riding in a car, and the driver was driving a little fast, which caused me to feel uninterested from the moment I got on the car and I felt drowsy all the way.

Finally, after a bumpy ride, we arrived at the hospital entrance.

Looking at the bustling streets and the dense flow of people coming and going, I thought to myself that if I had money, I would definitely run away. Why would I obediently follow others?

But if I really have to go with her, it's not impossible. Looking at the girl's back, I'm still thinking about the snacks she promised to give me after I found Huang Huang.

I followed the girl into the hospital.

It was nearing the end of the working day, and the veterinary hospital was relatively quiet. Curiosity drove me to peer around the interior, but I hesitated to act rashly. The air was filled with the scent of fellow pets—the dying, the sick, and the healthy. These scents stimulated my brain, giving me both the panic of treading into someone else's territory and the nervousness of being provoked.

My mind was tense, and while the girl was communicating with the doctor, I quietly found a place to sit down.

After more than ten minutes, the girl said goodbye to the doctor.

Before leaving, the girl glanced at me in the corner and suddenly remembered my existence.

She smiled, her expression filled with embarrassment. She quickly walked up to me and apologized, "I'm sorry, I forgot about bringing you here. I was mainly worried about Huang Huang. The doctor said he was injected with anesthetic and fell into a coma... Thank you very much for bringing Huang Huang back to me, but I don't know why you knew him."

This is the main reason why she kept me.
