Chapter 14

Chapter 14

When I got home, Li Ying'an was already cooking.

He probably saw that I didn't go home, so he left the door ajar. My little action of sneaking in from outside to observe was caught by Li Ying'an who was standing by the door boiling water and cooking.

He put down the spoon and held me in his arms like an old mother looking at her child, muttering, "You childish boy, why did you come home just now? I thought you didn't want to be with me anymore."

I struggled in his arms and finally broke free from his strong arms. Then I went back to the door and got the phone back.

He obviously didn't expect my action, and as he picked up the phone he couldn't help but exclaimed: "Where did you get that?"

I ran to the trash can and nodded my head.

"Why would anyone throw a cell phone into a trash can?"

My eyes widened and rolled around.

This excuse of picking up the phone from the trash can was something I made up on the spur of the moment. I don't think Li Ying'an would find any loopholes. After all, he was a newcomer and didn't know much about his surroundings or even the world at large.

Besides, humans are diverse species and their behaviors are all kinds of strange. Throwing mobile phones everywhere is outrageous, but also reasonable.

Li Ying'an was muttering in his heart as he casually opened his phone, which had no password set. Since the phone had been restored to factory settings, the page was clean and tidy without any unnecessary software.

I stared at his face the entire time, and judging by the expression he finally showed, I guess he must have thought I had stolen it.

Humph, your kindness is taken for granted.

Man, you really disappoint me.

"You really are good at picking up things..." The corners of his flat mouth suddenly smiled, "I was thinking of buying a cell phone tonight."

Wow! I was surprised. It turned out that I was a little quicker, otherwise Li Ying'an would have wasted more money, and he was so poor.

"I went to a cell phone store this afternoon and looked around. The owner said I still need to get a SIM card. It looks like I'll have to wait until tomorrow to finish this task." Li Ying'an put his phone in his pocket and set his sights on me. He walked towards me, squatted down, and picked me up. "You're really my lucky cat. With you by my side, I can find a job, and you even found me a cell phone today. What do you want to eat? I'll buy it for you."

I curled up in his arms like a baby, looking up at his pale grey eyes. I found that when he smiled, his eyes were lively, like the wind-blown sea, shimmering on the surface, rippling with the most moving and wonderful things in life.

I like Li Ying'an when he smiles, and I also like the warmth in his arms.

Knowing I couldn't speak, Li Ying'an began to whisper in my ear, "To celebrate finding a job, I bought you a delicious chicken breast. Can I cook it for you?"

I'm going to spend money again...

I swallowed the saliva in my mouth silently, and my mouth, which was a little itchy with greed, began to twitch, but I had to hold it back.

I want to tell Li Ying'an in my own way that I can live with him and there is no need for him to spend money on me.

So when Li Ying'an put the meat in front of me, I couldn't resist the temptation of greed and ate a few bites with restraint. When half of it was left, I deliberately avoided the plate and ran to the corner to lick the fur.

Seeing this, Li Ying'an raised my plate in surprise and shook it several times: "Are you full or do you not feel like eating?"

I stopped licking my fur, looked at the stove, then jumped up and squatted beside the iron pot waiting for the fresh food to come out of the oven.

Li Ying'an laughed: "Childish ghost, do you want to eat vegetables?"

Without making any sound, I simply licked my lips—

Well, actually I was savoring the delicious taste of chicken breast.

But in Li Ying'an's eyes, this scene meant that I don't like chicken breast, but I like the vegetables in the pot.

"You are such an amazing cat," he said in surprise.

His compliments were matter-of-fact and unremarkable, but I couldn't help feeling a little proud. I even wanted to tell him right then and there that I had something even more surprising: I could make money.

Li Ying'an advocates that food should not be wasted, and his chattering mouth cannot be stopped during meals.

Originally, he bought the chicken breast just for me, but now that he saw that I didn't like it, he had no choice but to pocket all the remaining meat. He also threatened that he would buy less of this kind of product in the future and buy more snacks for me as the kitten.

Listening to his words, I was almost stunned.

This is truly a case of losing more than you gain. I'm thinking about Li Ying'an's finances, and he's so broke he can barely make ends meet, yet he still wholeheartedly hopes for my happiness. If he buys cat snacks, I'd rather he buy chicken breast. At least that way we can both eat.

I don't know how to refuse his kindness. As it stands now, I can only let Li Ying'an spend money on me a few times.

The next day, perhaps in preparation for his first job, Li Ying'an dressed himself up early.

Starting from a little before six o'clock, I could hear the sound of Li Ying'an walking around in the small room, followed by the sizzling sound of cooking in the kitchen and the crisp sound of cat food being poured into the bowl.

I curled up on the carpet, my eyes following his busy figure back and forth. I pretended to be a brave man even though I was hungry, but I didn't seem to be as active as usual in reaching for the rice bowl to eat.

This unusual behavior puzzled Li Ying'an: "Aren't you hungry? Why aren't you eating? Are you sick?"

I couldn't answer Li Ying'an's barrage of questions, so I feigned confusion, stood up expressionlessly, and stretched like a freak. Without giving him any extra glances, I gracefully hopped onto the table, squatted over the noodles and poached egg, lifted my slender front legs, and patted the steaming bowl with a purposeful gesture.

——I don’t want cat food. I also want noodles with eggs.

The scene from last night was still fresh in Li Ying'an's mind, so much so that when he saw it again today, he could only laugh: "You little tabby cat have really become a spirit! You must have been transformed from a human, right?"

Li Ying'an is very good at cooking. He only makes enough food for one person, so after serving this bowl of noodles, the pot is clean and there is no left for me.

But he didn't mind the trouble. He didn't share a portion from his bowl for me. Instead, he picked up the pot again and cooked fresh noodles for me. By the way, he also made me a poached egg like he did before.

"These noodles might be a little hot right out of the pot," Li Ying'an blew carefully on the noodles held by his chopsticks. After a pause, he turned around and placed the poached egg in his bowl in front of me. "How about you eat the egg first? I'll cool the noodles down before giving them to you. The noodles in my bowl are clumping together, which will affect the taste."

I didn't refuse him and started eating with big mouthfuls.

When I was in heaven, I didn’t eat much, and one egg was enough to keep me active for half a day.

But since I came to this world and was able to transform into a human, my appetite has increased.

Of course, if I had always been in cat form, my appetite would have remained the same, but who told me that I had to make money today?

After dinner, Li Ying'an spent a few minutes washing the dishes and chopsticks, while I quickly ran to the entrance, ready to slip out on time.

The cleaned dishes clinked together, and Li Ying'an finally washed his hands. But before his hands, which were covered with water droplets, touched the towel hanging high up, his peripheral vision caught sight of me sitting in front of the door.

He was stunned and judged my next behavior just by my well-behaved posture.

"Why, did you get addicted to playing yesterday?"

I was annoyed by his nagging, so I stood up, turned around and knocked on the door.

This put Li Ying'an in a difficult position: "But I have to go to work today. I have a lot of things to deal with, and I might not be home at noon. Is it okay for you to stay out all day?"

I think Li Ying'an has forgotten that I have been wandering for four years.

But fortunately, he respected my opinion.

I saw him sigh helplessly, turn around and bring over the cat food that he had poured into the bowl that morning, and also took a bowl and filled it with some water.

He opened the door and I ran out before him, but I didn't leave in a hurry because I wanted to know the meaning behind Li Ying'an's behavior of bringing food and water.

Soon, I was moved by his meticulous care.

"Then I've put some water and food at the door. If you're tired from playing, remember to go home and eat." Li Ying'an put the things in his hand in the corner, "Remember to go home after six o'clock."

He put the things in place, locked the door, and then squatted in front of me like a father, stroking my head with a smile: "Go play, childish boy, but remember to watch out for the cars on the road."

I stared at him in amazement.

He withdrew his hand under my gaze: "I'm leaving."

Watching him walk down the stairs, I recalled meeting him in the snow last year. Even though he was practically in a state of despair, he still showed me his limited affection. I always remembered that my purpose in approaching him was to atone for the guilt I felt over the death of the ginger cat, but now I realize that even without that guilt, Li Ying'an would still be worth approaching.

I couldn’t understand how there could be someone in the world who was both poor and kind like him?

Is that his nature?

The face of the shop owner's daughter suddenly flashed through my memory. I still remember her light gray eyes, the same color as Li Ying'an's. At the time, they were filled with emptiness and dullness, a frantic look that, when calmed, resembled someone drowning. But now, recalling it more carefully, there was a clear lingering love in those eyes.

She and Li Ying'an have the same gentle nature, but her color has been worn away by time, while Li Ying'an is still brand new.

In any case, Li Ying'an deserves better living conditions. I think I have to work hard to make money to support him better.

When Li Ying'an changed into his work clothes and went to attend the meeting, I happened to pass by that house.

I have said that in this era when there are so many handsome men and beautiful women, Li Ying'an's appearance is not outstanding, and even his temperament is not what a young man should have. His back is neither straight nor hunched, but just leans forward naturally.

His existence is like a book in a library. Those who pay attention will notice that his presence has faded from being flamboyant and has become quiet, while those who don't pay attention will completely blend him into the environment and won't even notice him.

He is just like this, but I can see it at a glance.

I still remember what Empress Wuqing said: every encounter with anything is due to fate.

A person's magnetic field is so vast, and it can only attract so many things. You might stumble into a pit today, but be rescued by a new and kind person tomorrow. Everything has its ups and downs, so don't be too happy or too sad. In these four years, I've met so many bad people, but also some good ones. Just when I was about to fall into the trap of a bad organization—

Finally, I waited for a man named Li Ying'an.

He is so nice.

I want to follow him.

I want to earn a lot of money for him and support him.

So I walked quickly to my job today.

There was still more than half an hour before I had to go to work, and I didn't want to run around with nothing to do, so I just went into the workplace and took a look around.

This supermarket has an excellent location. It's right in the middle of the street, according to the street map. Not only is it large and well-stocked, but the prices are also lower than at smaller vendors. Furthermore, the owner of the store also runs a guesthouse next door.

On weekdays, business here is incredibly brisk, with a huge flow of people. Locals might be fine, as the supermarket is like a convenience store, a place for them to eat, but if outsiders discover it, it's truly a great place: those on the go will find a place to rest at this affordable place, and if they're pressed for time the next day, they'll buy breakfast from the supermarket before heading out again.

It not only makes it convenient for all kinds of workers, but also allows investors to earn profits, and also allows people with disabilities to have their own jobs.

I spent more than ten minutes taking a quick look and finally walked towards the exit to the cashier counter where there was only one cashier.

Where's the other cashier?

Is that position reserved for my future use?
