Chapter 42

Chapter 42

After dinner, I didn't follow Li Ying'an's lead and settle into a comfortable sleep. Ever since I'd gained the ability to become human, I wasn't prone to falling into deep sleep like a cat. I'd already gotten enough sleep on the high-speed train, and after swallowing half a bowl of egg fried rice, my stomach was bloated and uncomfortable. I had to get out, so going to work was the best option.

Li Ying'an didn't stop me anymore. Even after we both left the house, he asked me if I needed a key to the house.

I did not accept this kindness. Keys are of little use to me. If I carry them with me, I will just lose them. The security management in a community like this is already poor, so keys are something that must be well managed.

If I go home early and Li Ying'an hasn't returned home yet, I can just turn into a cat and go out for a walk.

Seeing that I thought this way, Li Ying'an did not force me, and said that we could make an agreement in the future that whoever gets off work first would wait for the other on the street.

This was the first time we went to the work site side by side. Li Ying'an walked in front of me when we went downstairs. I looked down at his soft hair, his neatly combed collar, and the gradually changing warm light of the morning sun mixed with his body. It felt like I was lying in the warm soil and basking in the sun. My heart was so warm and itchy that I unconsciously reached out to pull him.

The moment our hands touched, the moment our eyes met, I suddenly had a question: Brother, you said your name used to be Zhao Shou, so how did you get this name now?

Li Ying'an replied without hesitation, "My teacher gave me this name. When I told her I wanted to leave the village with my mother, she said the name Zhaoshou wasn't nice, too deliberate, and too old-fashioned. She said she just wanted me to be safe, so she named me Ying'an."

Sure enough, the name Li Ying'an is a level higher.

"Then let me ask you," Li Ying'an said, becoming interested. "Do you like the name I gave you, Li Youzhi? And did you choose the name Li Feng when you transformed into a human?"

"I like it. Maple leaves are like thousands of branches. I chose the name Li Feng myself. Some people say it sounds nice."

I thought of what Wen Liangxi said to me and said it proudly.

“It’s really nice,” he said. “It’s very poetic.”

I glanced triumphantly at his smiling face, then let go of his hand and ran downstairs like a crazy child.

When I rushed into the supermarket like the wind, I saw that the workplace was extremely busy and there were several familiar people standing nearby.

Deng Yu, in her wheelchair, was the first to spot me. It was obvious she'd missed me so much during my absence that she beamed with joy, her eyebrows rising like a mountain. Under the gazes of Wen Liangxi and Sui Yusheng, who had only just realized I was there, she waved enthusiastically, "Xiaofeng, you're back! You've been away for so long, so I came over to see if you've lost weight or gained weight."

I walked up to Deng Yu, and she held my hands and spun me around several times. Finally, she concluded, "You've lost weight."

"I do think he's gained weight," Wen Liangxi said, smiling gently as he approached me. He looked me over like an elder, then smiled at Deng Yu. "But he looks better this way."

Deng Yu echoed him: "That's the best way."

The two of them kept teasing me, and I couldn't remain calm. I glanced left and right, and accidentally met the cold eyes of Sui Yusheng who was standing next to me.

I was almost frightened by those dark eyes.

"Yusheng, why aren't you talking?" Wen Liangxi nudged him with his elbow. "Do you think Li Feng has lost weight or gained weight?"

After Wen Liangxi said this, Sui Yusheng raised her eyelids and glanced at him irritably, frowning and then relaxing. The corners of her mouth curved up after a long moment of preparation before she raised her lips to speak: "I can't tell."

His answers were perfunctory and brief, with no regard for his friend's face at all. Apart from him, a fleeting embarrassment flashed across the faces of several people present, with Deng Yu, the mother, being the most obvious.

However, this also confirmed what Teng Zheng had said to Deng Yu before, that Sui Yusheng was only passionate about Wen Liangxi.

"You're rude." Deng Yu was closest to Sui Yusheng. Dissatisfied with her son's behavior, she immediately gave him an elbow with a gloomy face.

Sui Yusheng couldn't withstand the force and deviated a few centimeters towards Wen Liangxi. Wen Liangxi dodged without mercy and even pushed him with a smile: "Take Aunt Deng back."

Sui Yusheng was not happy: "You won't go with us?"

Wen Liangxi said bluntly: "I want to talk to Li Feng."

"We are all good friends. Isn't it normal to chat for a while when we meet?" Deng Yu saw her son frowning. This unhappy expression made her feel something was wrong, so she interrupted him without saying anything.

In Deng Yu's words, since the three of them were friends, they should have gotten together and talked more, but it was too troublesome for her to go home alone, so she had no choice but to take Sui Yusheng away.

Only Wen Liangxi and I were left in the noisy scene.

There were still eight minutes left before work started, and I walked slowly to the cashier counter. I hadn't done anything for three days, but I suddenly felt nervous because my hands were unfamiliar with the work, or because I was nervous about being stared at.

After Qiangdu calmly cleared the table, I looked up and my gaze met Wen Liangxi's burning gaze just right. It felt like I was a cat caught eating in the supermarket.

I felt a bit embarrassed and stuck, not knowing where to put my hands and feet.

But I still brought up the topic: Why do you want to stay?

Wen Liangxi brought over a nearby swivel chair and sat on it, legs crossed. He rested his elbows on the armrests and placed his fists on his abdomen. His movements were elegant and casual, his expression gentle and friendly, and the smile at the corners of his mouth was the finishing touch. "Of course I'm concerned about what happened during those three days. After all, I was the one who made the contact. If anything went wrong, I would always be responsible for cleaning up. Did you find the cat you were looking for?"

Speaking of this, my good mood was instantly destroyed.

My expression said it all. The smile on Wen Liangxi's face immediately disappeared. He stood up from where he was sitting, walked over to me and comforted me: "What's the problem?"

I was very disappointed: the kitten was bought by someone else first.

Wen Liangxi exclaimed in surprise, then said with some self-blame, "It's my fault for not explaining it clearly to the other party in advance."

No matter what, I should thank Wen Liangxi for this matter. No matter whether the result is good or bad, Wen Liangxi always does his best. He should not be blamed, and I don’t want him to bear huge psychological pressure: Don’t say that, this matter is not your fault, it’s my fault that I didn’t arrive in time.

"Don't blame me, you're such a nice person." Wen Liangxi looked at me calmly, his eyes flickering with unclear emotions. When I tried to get a closer look, those emotions were obscured by his gentle gaze. "If you need it, I'll ask the boss again for you. Maybe we can negotiate a suitable price, but the possibility is slim."

This would be too much trouble for Wen Liangxi, and I would owe him a huge favor. I don't want to do that. I want to rely on my own strength, even if it's not worth mentioning. I don't want to trouble Wen Liangxi anymore. Besides, Wen Liangxi doesn't know what the boss does. Xiaoju is in danger. I just hope that if I'm lucky enough to see it again, it won't be too cruel.

At least... at least give it a complete body.

"Teng Zheng has been taking good care of you along the way, right?"

If you hadn't mentioned it, I would have almost forgotten about this person.

Wen Liangxi always implied that he felt guilty for not finding Xiaoju, but if he hadn't asked Teng Zheng to accompany me, who knows where I would be now.

I politely said: He takes good care of me. He bought the ticket for me to go home. Thank you for letting him help me.

I once again directed my polite words to him, but Wen Liangxi didn't take it seriously. He just smiled faintly, and said slowly and calmly, "It's mainly because Teng Zheng is thinking about you. He's very enthusiastic, unlike Sui Yusheng. He's just like that. Don't mind it."

Wen Liangxi's face looked relaxed and nonchalant at first glance, but his guilt was actually revealed in his voice.

I am the one who really doesn't care: It's okay, he should be a good person. Maybe my relationship with him is not as familiar as yours, so it is inevitable that he is indifferent to me.

But now that I've come to this, I'm suddenly curious about why Sui Yusheng treats Wen Liangxi so well. I can't help but wonder about their relationship: "You and him are mostly inseparable, and he seems to listen to you very much. Did you save his life in the past? You two are as close as an elderly married couple!"

My limited knowledge made the second half of the sentence almost come out of my mouth, because in my limited impression, Li Rui's parents, the elderly couple who owned the shop, had a particularly good relationship. I said this without thinking too much, just jokingly. In my opinion, the relationship between Wen Liangxi and Sui Yusheng is particularly good.

But when Wen Liangxi heard my last sentence, his face turned dark. His unhappiness was visibly visible, which made me dare not breathe for a moment. My mind was full of ideas on what words to use to fill the loopholes in my words, until Wen Liangxi's face slowly brightened.

Wen Liangxi, known for his good temper, was the antithesis of Sui Yusheng. It was rare for him to be in a good mood and correct me: "A husband and wife are a man and a woman, and Sui Yusheng and I are two men. Besides, we can only be friends. How can you use the word husband and wife to describe us? You might as well say we're as close as brothers."

I was so embarrassed that I had no face to show. Wen Liangxi stood in front of me in a very proper manner. He became my pillar of shame. Even though there was no hint of reprimand in every word he said, it was still like a sharp blade cutting my ears when it passed through my ears, and then he peeled off my fur and nailed me naked on it.

I apologized weakly: I'm sorry, I just wanted to describe it vividly, but I didn't expect it to backfire...

"It's okay." Wen Liangxi sat back down in his previous position, his posture exactly the same, though his expression seemed more relaxed. His eyes drooped slightly, and he slid his eyelids lazily, as if he was listless. He seemed to be detached from his body. His movements were elegant and noble, but sitting in this chair felt condescending. His expression was casual, and his tone was frivolous. "And I haven't saved anyone's life, let alone Sui Yusheng."

The reason why Sui Yusheng is close to Wen Liangxi, in Wen Liangxi's words, is that the other party regards him as the sunshine in winter.
