Chapter 8

Chapter 8

At this time, People's Park, damp with frost, was hushed and silent, a chill pervading the air. Withered lotus stems stood silently on the still surface of the lake. In the bird's nest perched on the crisscrossing branches, the sparrows had not yet awakened. If I had the heart to climb up, I would surely have found a feast.

But I didn’t, mainly because I ate too much yesterday, and secondly, I looked up and saw the grayish-white sky frozen between the clouds.

Cold and silent, as if wrapped in a layer of snow, it is like Li Ying'an's eyes when he is silent.

I stared at it as if I were staring at Li Ying'an, which of course aroused my interest.

I guess Li Ying'an will notice my departure in a while. As for the reason, I want to tell him when we meet later.

I walked around the park, which was not big but not small either. I didn't find any promotional banners. I was even more angry at why Teng Zheng chose such a place to meet.

Just as I was about to set out to the old couple's shop to ask for something to fill my stomach, I suddenly heard a faint cat's meow. The sound was very close to me, yet very unreal.

I immediately held my head high and looked around.

Soon after, I heard someone whispering.

"Are you hungry, little kitty? Do you want to come home with me?"

It's the human voice.

I pricked up my ears, took light steps, and wandered among the still lush holly bushes. My eyes swept across the ground, and finally, not far away, I saw a pair of blue and white shoes. Looking up, I saw the back of the man, he was squatting, facing a cluster of holly.

I took a few stealthy steps, then bent my front paws and lay on the ground, watching the subtle interactions over there with my own eyes.

I couldn't see the man's face clearly; I could only tell from his appearance and voice that he was a boy. But I could clearly see the kitten across from me. It was also a tabby cat, but much younger than me, looking like it had just been sucked, only a few months old. Its eyes revealed curiosity and confusion about the outside world.

"Meow meow," the boy was still calling it with a cat flick, trying to lure it to him, "Mimi, are you hungry?"

Finally, under the boy's persistence, the kitten took a brave step and walked towards the boy.

Almost as soon as he approached, the boy seemed to be unable to wait to touch its fur, and seemed to be reluctant to let it go.

He also stroked the kitten so hard that it always held it on his head.

He said, "How about I take you home and raise you?"

Of course, the kitten couldn't speak, so after asking this question, the boy couldn't wait to pick up the kitten.

The boy caught the cat so quickly that the kitten flew into the air without a squeak as soon as it saw me.

I heard it meow twice, inviting me, so without thinking, I quickly rushed out from my hiding place.

But as soon as I jumped onto the cobblestone ground, the boy stood up with his back to me. Only the kitten lying on his shoulder could see me, so the kitten meowed twice again.

It barked a little anxiously, and the boy seemed to think that it was unwilling to follow him home, so he raised his hand to pat it and comfort it a few times.

But soon, the boy obviously realized that something was wrong.

There was almost no time for me to be distracted. The speed at which the boy turned his head to look at me caught me off guard.

At that moment, our eyes met violently.

This quick glance back gave me a chill, because in my understanding, humans weren't this vigilant, much less sensitive like animals like us. His gaze startled me, and I froze, my front paws raised, but my entire body froze in place, his dark eyes fixed squarely on the other side.

My alert state was too obvious, and the kitten on the boy's shoulder didn't expect me to do this, and hid away in fear.

Slowly, the boy became aware of my presence and his vigilant eyes gradually relaxed. The moment I saw the boy's face clearly, my tense body also quietly relaxed.

My hostility towards him gradually disappeared because the boy in front of me holding the kitten was so handsome.

He had thick black hair, slightly longer, about halfway to his neck. His facial features were delicate, with a high and delicate nose and slightly raised lips with a light color. He looked like a malnourished person who had just recovered from a serious illness.

But what attracted me most were not these beautiful things. Just like when I met Li Ying'an, what caught my attention most was the eyes under the meticulously trimmed black hair and the pair of long eyebrows, which were actually blue.

This is the first time I see anyone with blue eyes here.

At first, I thought it was because the night fog before dawn had not yet dissipated that I was confused by his eyes, but now our eyes met, time flew by, and I suddenly realized that the boy's eyes were indeed blue, just a lighter color, like his lip color, lifeless but extremely beautiful, hazy, soft and pure, really like staring into a dawn fog.

He really seems to be the most handsome person I have ever seen. If he is a god, he might be on par with Empress Wuqing.

Yes, beautiful was the right word to describe him. He was a handsome man, for his features weren't as hardy as Li Ying'an's, but rather resembled the coldness of a winter morning, a mixture of melancholy and a rather feminine air. Just looking at his cheeks revealed his fair skin, and even though he was wrapped in a thick cotton coat, his slender figure was still noticeable.

At this moment, he was standing on the park path where the cold air had not yet completely dissipated, with a furry tabby hair on his shoulders and a smile on his lips, inviting me.

"Why is there a big tabby cat here?" He turned around to make sure the little tabby cat wouldn't move around, then slowly squatted down in front of me. "Are you the little tabby cat's mother? Do you want to come home with me and the little tabby cat? I can raise you two."

...Although you are a kind person, I am a male cat and I don’t know the tabby cat on your shoulder.

I was muttering quietly in my heart.

"Don't you want to come with me? There are a lot of cat strips at home."

His tone was so gentle, and just before I was about to fall asleep, it suddenly occurred to me that he sounded like he was kidnapping a child.

So when he slowly took a few steps forward, out of instinct, I chose to turn around and run away.

When I arrived at the door of the store, the crazy woman was sitting on a bench in a cotton coat, holding a cup of hot water in her hand.

She tilted her head slightly and didn't notice my presence.

When I think of her sudden change that day, I can't help but feel scared.

Although she wasn't blocking the entrance, the door was closed, so I couldn't get through and had to stay here with her. And since I had someone to keep me company, I was bored and couldn't help but look at her. I watched her stare off into the distance at the gray sky, her eyes dull and confused, like a thick layer of smoke, leaving me feeling empty.

Suddenly, I felt a little cold, so my body acted before my brain and I took the initiative to move closer to her ankles.

Perhaps sensing the warmth at her feet, the woman squinted her eyes when a gust of wind blew. Her trembling eyelashes blocked her view of the distance, causing her to lower her head, and then she saw me.

"Kitten?" She asked in confusion, as if she didn't recognize the breed of cat and didn't remember seeing me before.

I looked up and gave her an expressionless look, then turned my head to look at the closed door, indicating to her if she could open it.

It is indeed difficult for people to understand a mute, let alone I am a cat.

But the woman also looked silly. She kept smiling at me, and her smile was very fake and a bit weird.

This forced smile gave me a sudden chill. I walked away from her, ran to the door, climbed on it and quickly scratched at it a few times. The harsh sound lasted for some time.

Finally, the woman understood what I meant: "Are you going to the house? But you can't get in. Can I hold you?"

Without waiting for my response or turning my head, she roughly lifted the quilt from her body, took two steps behind me, picked me up, and held me tightly back into the room.

The old man sitting behind the cash register looking at his phone saw me.

"Come and eat?" The old man stood up and took out cat food and some pet snacks from the cupboard.

As far as I know, everything in that cupboard belongs to me. Every time I come, I see him rummaging through it, and then there are a lot of foods I like to eat. Of course, in addition to this, he will also go to the shelf to take some human edible things, and after making sure I won't get hurt, he will feed me intermittently.

To be honest, a woman's arms are very warm and fragrant, with a strong motherly scent. Being with her gives me the illusion that I am serving Empress Wuqing.

But no matter how warm it is, it is not as important as my need to be full.

Seeing the old man preparing a job for me, I jumped out of the woman's arms without hesitation and without any hesitation.

In the middle of my meal, the woman's mother peeled a boiled egg and left an egg yolk for me.

The egg yolk tastes very choking, but it is very fragrant and I like it very much.

Just as I was eating happily and intently, I caught a glimpse of a woman squatting beside me, looking at me with a silent smile.

...Can you move away a little? To be honest, it's a bit scary.

The woman naturally couldn't hear my inner voice, and she became more and more excessive. From the beginning, she only looked at me with her eyes, then she reached out to touch me, and even her mouth was restless for a moment: "Little cat, little cat, you are a clean and beautiful little cat..."

I chewed my food and glanced at her: "..."

"You still have a yellow spot on your little kitty."

She seemed to have discovered a new world. She completely ignored the fact that I was eating and was only focused on studying why there was a patch of yellow hair on my back that did not match the color of a tabby cat.

When she picked me up, I didn't struggle at all and stared dejectedly at the remaining food in the bowl.

I know the difference between having one meal full and not having enough every day. If I scratch her for such a small thing, I'm afraid I will never have the chance to come to this store to find food again. So I can only pretend nothing happened and endure her rude touch on me.

"What a magical shape, like..." She racked her brains and murmured, "maple leaf."

To say that I am a tabby cat is too broad a term. To be precise, my fur color is not single. I am a colorful civet cat.

At first I thought my fur was only black and white. It was Empress Wuqing who discovered the yellow behind me. Like the woman in front of me, Empress Wuqing also thought it was the shape of a maple leaf.

Because of this, she always takes me to Maple Forest to play.

I was completely immersed in my beautiful memories and didn't notice that the gaze of the woman who was caressing me was gradually changing.

"Ah——!" She suddenly dropped me and screamed.
