Chapter 25 Chapter 25 The Third Wish
When it was daybreak, System 05 immediately stood up and walked out. He had not slept all night and was listening to the noise outside.
Federer was originally asleep, but when he heard the noise, he immediately opened his eyes, his dark grey pupils turned around, and he followed out with his sword in hand.
The village chief had already packed up. When he saw System 05, he sighed several times and took the two of them to the place where the accident happened last night.
Along the way, every door was shut, leaving only torches burning, which no one dared to extinguish even in broad daylight. That house was quite remote, with no one nearby, standing alone, dilapidated and desolate.
There was a strangely shaped black and gray footprint at the door.
The village chief's expression changed slightly, and he said, "Investigator, I'll have it burned."
System 05 walked inside: "I'll go investigate."
Federer didn't go in with him this time, but stood beside the village chief and waited. The village chief frowned, looking eager to go in and take a look, but out of fear, he dared only stand there.
Inside was still a small house, with the dead person lying with his back to the door and only half of his body left.
System 05 turned the corpse over expressionlessly. Anger and fear still remained on her face. System 05 used identification skills to examine it, then reached out and touched her broken body.
His face darkened slightly, and he looked around again, observing the ground carefully.
Human footprints.
System 05 went to the bedroom, grabbed a sheet, wrapped the body, and cast a freezing spell. When he left the room, the village chief's son had already taken torches and led the villagers to burn the house.
The village chief said anxiously, "Burn it quickly."
System 05 winked at Federer and asked, "Village Chief, I'd like to ask about this family."
Federer stood in front of the village chief's son. The village chief hesitated for a moment and said, "This family consists of a widow and her daughter. The widow was killed by the Avengers a month ago, leaving only her daughter."
System 05 said, "You were planning to use her as a new sacrifice, weren't you?"
The village chief sighed deeply: "Yes, alas, there is nothing we can do. The mountain is shaking more and more. It's all because the original sacrifice ran away. Who knew that she was also..."
System 05 shook his head, turned slightly sideways, and stepped on the footprint in front of everyone's horrified gaze.
"Investigator!"
System 05 said: "She was not killed by the Avengers."
Everyone was in an uproar. The village chief was even more surprised. He stammered, "How is that possible? We all heard the noise last night."
System 05 looked around, fixed his gaze on the village chief, and asked, "According to the old customs of the village, where are corpses usually placed?"
"It's in the cellar." The village chief whispered, he tightened his grip on his cane, and then he saw the investigator walk into the house and carry out the wrapped body.
At this time, there were already a lot of people gathered outside. When they saw him holding the corpse, they immediately scattered and ran out in fear.
System 05: "If the Avengers killed someone, the body will disappear after three days. We put the body in the cellar, and after three days, we will know for sure."
The village chief's son shouted, "Put it down now and let us burn it! Don't kill us all!"
"Carter!" the village chief scolded his son harshly, "Don't be rude to the investigator!"
"He's going to kill us all!" Carter raised the torch: "Put it down now, or I'll burn you too!"
System 05 turned a deaf ear to his shouting, looked at the village chief, and said, "Take me to the cellar, village chief."
Carter took a step forward and suddenly found himself shrouded by a huge shadow. The armored paladin looked at him with a smile, then slowly reached out and grabbed his wrist.
Carter felt a sharp pain and almost suspected that his wrist was broken. The paladin's movements were obviously not fast, but he was intimidated by the inexplicable sense of oppression. He couldn't breathe and dared not move.
"Don't play with fire." The torch fell to the ground and was stomped out by Federer. He raised his index finger to his lips and said, "Listen to him."
The village chief brought System 05 to the cellar. The cellar was narrow, dark, and cold, as if it had squeezed the body into a ball, making it so stuffy that it was hard to breathe.
System 05 placed the body on a wooden board. According to custom, everyone had to say goodbye to her after three days.
"Do we really need to do this?" the village chief asked anxiously, "What if we let another Avenger escape..."
"I will take responsibility." System 05 lowered his hands and said, "The outcome will be clear in three days."
Despite the unexpected incident, System 05 and Federer still diligently completed the drawing of the magic circle. After the formation took effect, the darkness at night was indeed much more normal. Even if the torch was accidentally extinguished, no one would die, and even the mountain stopped shaking.
"Can the Avengers be resisted with such a magic circle?" Federer stood at the entrance of the village. The magic circle enveloped the entire village under protection, and the Avengers outside could no longer break in.
System 05: "The Avengers here are still too weak, after all, they are close to the Holy City."
The only Avengers here are that girl and a few people who were contaminated later. The sleeping Avengers have not woken up yet.
The magic circle only covers the village. System 05 warned the village chief not to go up the mountain again, and then took Federer to the mountain.
System 05 was fully armed and more cautious than before. He wore a full set of anti-magic equipment, a mask and gloves, with only his eyes exposed. Then he used an immunity spell on himself to avoid being contaminated by the Avengers.
"Stand still." System 05 also used an immunity spell on Federer.
"Are you worried about me? Don't worry, sir. I will definitely protect myself and you." Federer blinked and said with emotion, "I really hope this immunity can stay with me forever."
"...People like you would be even scarier if they became Avengers."
System 05 didn't even want to look at him again, and turned and walked into the mountains. The mountains were utterly silent, without even the chirping of insects or birds. Although it was the turn of spring and summer, the trees were dry and yellow, filled with the smell of decay.
He had recently asked the village chief about the village's past. The village hadn't always existed there, but rather was formed after the Holy City was established, when the population gradually migrated out. The village had experienced two battles with the Avengers, and the Avengers were buried beneath this mountain.
System 05 stopped in front of a gray-black footprint. He used identification skills to investigate and saw several ghost-like shadows emerging from the ground.
The traces left by the Avengers would have a smell of decayed plants. System 05 continued to expand his detection skills and used a perception amplification skill card. He closed his eyes and a topographic map of the entire forest emerged in his mind. The marks representing the Avengers lit up one by one, densely packed, covering the entire forest with almost no gaps.
The mountain forest surrounding the village has buried too many avengers. They are awakening, and when they try to wake up, the mountain forest will shake, and every sacrifice is a stimulation to the avengers.
It's like putting food in front of a hungry and sleepy beast.
There is no mountain god at all. The shaking of the forest is caused by the Avenger. The one worshipped by the village chief is also the Avenger.
System 05 walked to a large raised rock, from which he could overlook the entire village. The village, with a population of about three hundred, seemed small and fragile, surrounded by mountains and forests.
The Avengers will soon fully awaken and devour the village.
But no one knows when they will wake up, tomorrow, or a week later, or a month later.
Or maybe they have already woken up.
"Where to next?" Federer asked.
System 05 pointed to the foot of the mountain. The two looked at each other and understood each other's thoughts.
It was almost dark when they returned from the mountains. The atmosphere in the village had been very tense for the past two days. The villagers were afraid of them and felt that these two people would harm everyone in the village, so they all avoided them.
System 05, however, was completely unaffected. He didn't just ignore other people's attitudes; he didn't even care about people. He continued to live in the village chief's home, and the chief treated him with the same warmth and respect as usual. In the evening, he even invited them to dinner.
"Investigator, I heard you went to the mountains today," the village chief asked. "The mountains are very dangerous. We usually don't dare to go in."
System 05 said, "We want to investigate the cause of the forest tremors."
The village chief immediately asked, "Did you find anything?"
System 05 shook his head. "All I know is that the tremors will become more frequent and more severe. The only way to deal with this is to get the villagers out of here."
The village chief was stunned for a long time, sighing repeatedly, and said with a sad face: "It's not that easy. How can we make a living along the way with so many people? What if we encounter danger? Even if there are no such problems, where else can we go? If we stay here, at least there is a river, fields, houses and fences..."
System 05 calmly told him, "This village is becoming increasingly dangerous."
The village chief sighed and toasted the two men repeatedly, drinking himself. "I am already half buried in the ground. It doesn't matter where I die, but what about the other villagers?"
"Investigator, you were born in the Holy City. How enviable!"
"I haven't been to the Holy City yet, but my son has been there once. I heard there's an endless supply of water and flowers all over the city..."
System 05 and Federer drank a lot of wine that night. The village chief and his son helped the two who couldn't open their eyes back to the guest room. As soon as they lay down, they fell asleep.
The village chief stood beside the bed, reeking of alcohol, but his eyes were clear. Carter saw the long sword and heavy shield hanging beside him and tried to grab the sword, but the weight of the sword was beyond imagination, and he had to use both hands to drag the sword.
It is hard to imagine that this sword is like a toy in Federer's hands. He often carries a heavy shield on his back, and Carter cannot shake it even with all his strength.
"Idiot, what are you doing?!" the village chief scolded in a low voice, "What if they wake up?"
Carter said disapprovingly, "I put drugs in their cups. Don't worry, it's ten times the dosage. Even if I set fire to this place, they won't wake up."
He was smiling playfully, but when he saw the gloomy face of the village chief, he restrained his smile and followed his father obediently.
The village chief and Carter went out, and the village chief locked and sealed the windows.
Carter held up the torch, and the village chief looked ahead gravely and said, "Let's go."
The two hurried to the cellar. Even after the magic circle was drawn, the villagers still didn't dare go out at night, or even look outside. As they walked along, they found that every house was closed and there was no sound from inside, as if no one was there.
After arriving at the cellar, the village chief said, "You go in, I'll watch here."
Carter looked embarrassed: "I don't dare to do it alone..."
"You don't dare anymore now, tsk." Although the village chief was old, he was very strong. With a swift kick, he kicked Carter down. "This is all your fault! If it weren't for you, such an idiot, I wouldn't have risked offending the investigator."
"This is our territory, why are you so scared?"
"You have no idea what those people are capable of." Seeing Carter was about to say something else, the village chief scolded him impatiently: "Go! Move the body out! There's no time."
Carter took a deep breath and mustered up the courage to walk inside. He held the torch and supported himself against the wall with one hand. The shadow cast by him stretched wildly across the stone wall. The crackling sound and flickering flames made him nervous and suspicious.
The young girl chosen as the new sacrifice had lost her mother a month earlier and lived alone at home. Unable to resist the village chief's decision, she could only hide and cry. That evening, Carter entered her house and offered to save her from her fate as a sacrifice if she agreed to have sex with him. The young girl refused.
At this time, it was completely dark, and because Carter was pestering her, the little girl did not light the fire.
Darkness swallowed the room, but Carter didn't care at all. He was filled with rage and stared at the little girl, with bloody and violent desire churning in his chest.
When he regained consciousness, he found that the girl had been killed. Carter quickly thought of blaming the girl's death on the Avengers. To make it look real, he cruelly cut off half of the body, placed fake footprints at the door, and then dragged the half body to bury it in the back mountain.
Darkness watched all this.
On such a night, in such darkness, he should have been very scared, but at that time, his heart was very calm, and he even felt a slight joy.
He originally thought he could hide the truth, but the investigator insisted that the body be stored in the cellar. As a last resort, Carter could only ask his father for help. Who knew that the village chief had already seen through his father's crime, but he couldn't abandon his son, so he came up with the idea of stealing the body.
Carter hadn't felt fear when he'd murdered someone that day, but now, standing in the cellar, his legs trembled, his breath caught in his throat, his heart pounding as if it were about to burst. His mind replayed the events of that day, the angry and fearful look in the little girl's eyes before she died, like needles piercing his skin. There was no sound in the cellar, and his footsteps were as dull as a heavy drum, beating against his heart. In the darkness, something seemed to be watching him.
There was a slight itch on the back of his neck, probably from the wind. Carter didn't dare look back, and just walked down step by step. In front of him was the platform where the corpse was placed. Carter didn't even dare to move his eyes up. He just stood there, almost wanting to turn around and run away.
What would he see? Just a corpse, nothing to be afraid of... But what would he see?
"Hurry up! Don't dawdle!" His father's voice came from above. Carter shuddered, but hearing his father's urging, he mustered up some courage, took two quick steps, and raised the torch to illuminate the platform.
There's nothing on it.
Carter's hair stood on end, his eyes widened, and he was almost scared to death. His throat was trembling, but the great fear made him unable to make a sound.
The body is missing? Why? Could it really be the Avengers...
Carter didn't dare to think anymore. He closed his eyes, ignored the torch, and just wanted to turn around and run away. At this moment, a hand grabbed his shoulder. No matter how Carter struggled forward, he couldn't shake the hand at all.
Carter screamed twice and felt that he was being lifted up. The collar was tightening around his throat and he felt suffocated. Carter couldn't help but open his eyes and saw a pair of pitch-black pupils. The black color was indescribable, as if silent in the endless night. There was no blacker than this. Then, the other party picked up a torch. Under the light of the fire, the pupils turned dark gray, shaking with bright ripples.
Federer slowly smiled: "What are you looking for?"
The village chief held the torch tightly and waited anxiously outside. He had felt something was wrong that night, and when he found out that the deceased was a new sacrifice, and Carter had not returned home late last night, he guessed the truth.
He had long been fed up with his son, who had been raised to be both stupid and arrogant, but he never expected him to pull off something like this. The most troublesome thing was that the investigators had actually discovered something wrong; otherwise, they could have just set fire to the place the next day and all the evidence would have been gone.
Those two investigators are also very strange...
The reason why the village chief is the village chief is because his father was the village chief. He experienced the war with the Avengers and hated and feared the Avengers.
The village chief had come into contact with investigators from the Holy City, and while they spoke of the Avengers with caution, they also looked down on their power.
All four wars ended with the victory of the Holy City. Even if the Avengers were resurrected again, they would only die again.
This is a belief shared by everyone in the holy city.
But he didn't see these beliefs in this investigator and the paladin beside him. In fact, these two people had no emotions towards the Avengers.
The two people's behavior style is also very strange. He can't figure out what these two people want.
If it wasn't for Carter's stupid behavior, he really didn't want to do anything to the two investigators. Once they found out, they would probably not have a good ending.
Thinking of this, the village chief became even more impatient. It turned out that he was more of a hindrance than a helper. It took so long to move a corpse...
“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!”
The screams pierced his eardrums. The village chief looked inside, but he could see nothing. It was pitch black below, and then there was no sound. The village chief wanted to shout, but he didn't dare to make a sound. The night around him seemed even darker than before, and he thought of the night before.
The village chief took two steps back, ready to abandon his son and run away. At this moment, a circle lit up and he saw a faint golden light, but it disappeared in an instant. Then, System 05 emerged from the darkness.
The next morning, the villagers gathered outside the cellar. The little girl's body was still wrapped and lying on the ground. She did not disappear, which meant that she was not killed by the Avengers.
So who is the murderer?
The village chief stood at the front with a gloomy expression, leaning on a cane. System 05 and Federer stood on one side. Federer was wearing a full set of armor, almost twice the size of an ordinary person, and holding a heavy shield, looking extremely oppressive.
Carter, the village chief's son, knelt in front of the corpse with a dazed look on his face. He was frightened silly last night.
No one spoke for a moment, only the howling sound of the wind.
"She was not killed by the Avengers." The village chief raised his voice, breaking the silence.
"Isn't he really an Avenger?" a villager asked.
System 05 waved his cane and opened a nearby box. It was then that everyone noticed the wooden box. Using levitation, System 05 pulled the contents out of the box. It was the other half of the corpse, and when they put them together, they revealed a massive wound in the abdomen.
This is the damage done by human weapons.
Carter buried half of the body at the foot of the mountain. System 05 and Federer's purpose yesterday was to find this half of the body.
"Carter acted impulsively." The village chief sighed deeply. "He had an argument with the sacrifice and then lost his grip..."
System 05 rolled its eyes and looked at him.
"I hope everyone can forgive him." The village chief shed two lines of turbid tears. He looked extremely pitiful to System 05. "Everyone knows what kind of person he is. As a father, it was my fault for failing to supervise him. That sacrifice should have been locked up, but it was my failure to supervise him that led to this mistake."
The villagers didn't react.
"Then, what about those things? Will they come again?" a villager suddenly asked. He was referring to the Avengers. Some people did not dare to call the Avengers' names directly.
The village chief said, "The investigator has already set up a magic circle. No more avengers will appear in the future."
System 05 said nothing.
There was no gratitude in the eyes of those villagers, but more of a desire to avoid him.
They were not interested in the truth. The family was dead anyway and it was none of their business. They did not want to offend the village chief.
The village chief wiped his tears again and said to System 05, "Investigator, you said this..."
"Investigators are only responsible for finding the truth, not for adjudicating. The decision on how to deal with her is, of course, left to you, the village chief." System 05 said, "Everyone has seen her for the last time. Bury her in the mountains."
Village chief: "Yes, yes."
Under the leadership of the village chief, the villagers dug a pit at the foot of the mountain and buried the intact body in the soil. System 05 prayed for the deceased according to the prayers taught by the church.
"It's done, so I'll leave first." After the brief ceremony, System 05 said to the village chief.
The village chief took two steps and seemed to be about to say something, but stopped himself. He couldn't believe that the investigator had let Carter go just like that.
Federer had already arrived in a carriage. System 05 helped him into the carriage. The village chief took two steps forward to see him off. System 05 lifted the curtain and said to him, "My advice is that, out of conscience and fairness, you should make the right decision."
The carriage drove for a long time before the village completely disappeared from sight.
"Is this really okay?" Federer suddenly asked.
System 05 said calmly, "Didn't I give him the power to choose?"
Federer released the reins, letting the horse run free, and said, "But you didn't tell him that Carter was tainted."
Carter had stared into the darkness for too long and had been tainted. Sooner or later, he would become an Avenger. The magic circle could only stop the Avengers outside, but if the Avengers were born within the village, no one could stop them.
The law of the holy city is an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. Unless the village chief can make up his mind to punish Carter for murder, the village will suffer an unknown fate.
However, no one knows when he will become an Avenger.
Federer asked, "Will other villagers choose justice and kill Carter to avenge her?"
"I don't know about that." System 05 propped up his chin. "Do you have any objections to this result?"
"No, I obey all your orders," Federer said. System 05 thought he was pretty consistent with his character. Then he continued, "I liked you before, but it was just a fantasy image. But now I'm getting to know you for real. Every little bit I learn about you brings me joy."
“…”
Feeling the silence of System 05, Federer curled up the corners of his mouth slightly.
"We didn't know each other before, why do you like me?" System 05 suddenly asked.
Federer was stunned for a moment, tilted his head slightly, and said, "We have known each other for a long time, but you didn't notice me, but I have been watching you for a long time."
"But you don't know me."
"Yes, so I'm trying to understand. I'm glad you gave me this opportunity, sir," Federer said shyly. "I hope you can understand me better too."
System 05 was in a trance for a moment. This tone made him feel vaguely familiar.
The two continued forward. Along the way, they encountered attacks from wild beasts, monsters, and other creatures. System 05 only mastered some functional techniques, so these monsters were naturally left to Federer to deal with.
The further we go, the more the surrounding environment changes. The trees become shorter and drier, and most of them use their roots to store water. There is even yellow sand floating in the air.
The stones on the roadside were eroded by wind and sand, and their surfaces were rough and ugly. The road surface was also bumpy, and the yellow sand could almost hit your face through the car curtains.
Federer lit a bonfire at night. He has strong survival skills in the wild and can find water and various food ingredients even in such an extreme environment.
System 05 watched him set up the pot and skillfully throw various ingredients into the pot. He was also good at knife skills, and the surfaces cut by the big sword were very neat.
System 05 stared at the gurgling pot in a daze, and suddenly heard Federer shout: "High fire, high fire, blow on it."
He quickly lowered his head and blew at the fire, which grew noticeably bigger. Federer put the ingredients in while saying, "When cooking, the heat is very important. I'm going to chop the vegetables, and you help me watch the fire. If it gets too small, add more wood."
System 05 only had theoretical knowledge but had never put it into practice, but how could such a trivial matter be difficult for him? He stared at the height of the flame and adjusted it at any time to ensure that the flame always maintained the same level and temperature.
Perfect.
"There are only root vegetables to eat here, but I brought seasonings. Adding more seasoning will make it more flavorful." Federer said nearby: "I just threw in some sand beetle meat. It looks very tender. You can try it later."
System 05 has been to so many worlds and seen the host eat many different kinds of food. He has also seen even more bizarre ones, but he rarely feels curious.
"Make the fire a little bigger and just cook until dark," Federer said.
System 05 stared at the flames. Perhaps it was because he had a hand in the production this time that he was looking forward to it.
While waiting, Federer prepared some cold dishes and drinks. This world was short of supplies and the variety was monotonous. He only ate the same few dishes over and over again. He could only use various cooking methods as much as possible to enrich the taste.
The pot boiled three times and then turned to low heat. Federer scooped out the broth. System 05 tasted it, frowned, tasted it again, bit off the tender piece of meat and chewed it, and frowned again.
System 05 commented: "Too spicy."
"I only put a little bit in." Federer tasted it himself and could only feel a faint spiciness, almost negligible.
System 05 said solemnly, "Don't add spicy food next time."
Federer saw him eating with a frown on his face, and he felt bad too: "Why don't you just stop eating."
System 05 refused. The food here wasn't easy to find. Although it wasn't comfortable, it was still an experience. Federer had no choice but to ask him to drink more water. After a while, System 05 said, "Do you like making food?"
"...That sounds strange." Federer smiled. "It's just a necessary skill for survival, but it would be better if you could put in some effort to make something delicious."
System 05 looked up at the night sky after darkness had fallen. "I know someone who also puts a lot of thought into his food. Even in the most dangerous situations, he'll always make sure he has something good to eat. I've never seen anyone who can be hunted by three enemies at once and still have the energy to roast a spirit beast on their territory."
Federer blinked: "Really?"
"Yeah, to be honest, he's not very lucky. At the time, I thought that since he was willing to spend time on food, it meant he was a person who could enjoy life. After revenge, he could live a good life."
He rarely spoke so much in front of Federer. Federer stared at him, not knowing what he was thinking. After a long while, he said, "Maybe he's lucky enough to have met you."
"I think so too." System 05 sighed heavily. "But this person still owes me a debt. It's painful to think about it. Federer, you must never become such a person."
Federer smiled and said nothing.
After finishing his meal and cleaning up the debris, System 05 went back to the carriage to sleep as usual. On the way, he heard a series of collisions. He stuck his head out and saw some monster corpses scattered around Federer.
"Did I wake you up?" Federer asked, turning around.
System 05 stood up. The farther away from the holy city, the more aggressive monsters there were, and their types were also diverse.
"It's my turn to keep watch, you go to sleep." System 05 folded up his coat. The temperature difference between day and night has become larger here, and it is especially cold at night.
"These things are not easy to deal with. I'll go with you."
The smell of blood assaulted his nose, and System 05 sat down. "They shouldn't be coming."
The second half of the night was indeed much quieter, and after daybreak, the two continued on their journey. System 05 didn't climb into the carriage this time. Instead, he sat next to Federer, rubbing his aching muscles. "Hopefully we can find another suitable place to rest soon," he said.
They have been out for a month, much slower than originally planned.
Shortly after setting off, the two encountered monsters that attacked them again. Federer dismounted and dealt with the monsters. System 05 pondered for a moment and said, "This type of monster has never been so aggressive before, let alone this kind of suicidal behavior..."
Federer: "Maybe they were also contaminated by the Avengers."
This is indeed possible. It seems that the farther away from the Holy City, the greater the impact of the Avengers.
After walking for another half a day, they gradually saw traces of pedestrians on the road, indicating that there was a village nearby. Federer wanted to speed up to get to the village, but after listening carefully for a moment, he stopped the carriage instead.
"What's up?"
Federer tilted his head, still looking forward: "There's a battle ahead."
He drove the carriage to the hills nearby, and then the two of them hid behind a big rock and looked ahead.
There were indeed two sides fighting. One side had dark skin, a single horn on its head and wore leather, while the other side had a tall figure with a bull head and cloth shorts. Both sides were holding weapons and fighting fiercely. In the melee, arrows and magic missiles flew through.
Cumans and Minotaur.
Behind them was the village of the Kumans, short in stature with excellent night vision, known for their mining. The Minotaur, on the other hand, excelled at forging and were experienced and gifted blacksmiths. These two races had always been cooperative, so how could they have come to blows, and such a fierce fight?
There were already several corpses on the battlefield, and the Kumans and Minotaur were still fighting. In the distance was a village, which must belong to one of these two races.
It looked like they wouldn't be able to stop anytime soon. The Minotaur had a better reputation in the Holy City and they were more honest in doing business, so System 05 winked at Federer and walked out.
"Who, don't go any further!" An arrow fell at the feet of System 05, and then another arrow flew over and was cut in half by Federer's sword.
"I want to know what happened." System 05 held up the investigation order. "I am a senior investigator from the Holy City."
Everyone recognized the warrant and knew the investigator's position. One of the Minotaur people immediately shouted, "They're trying to break into our village. Investigator, please help us!"
After these words were spoken, the fighting intensified. The Kumans cursed and shouted "bullshit!" as volleys of arrows flew towards the Minotaur. System 05 shouted "stop," but no one obeyed, so Federer entered the battlefield.
A moment later, the Kumans fled cursing.
The ground was littered with corpses, broken weapons, and shields. Several Minotaur men carried the bodies back. The Minotaur who had called out earlier walked up to System 05, saluted, and said, "Sir, this is truly terrible. It's a good thing you're here, otherwise they would have broken in today."
System 05 asked: "What happened?"
The Minotaur sighed and said, "It's a long story at this point. My Lord, please come back to the village with me."
