Chapter 224 Dry Riverbed

Chapter 224 Dry Riverbed

The caracal opened his eyes wide in surprise: [Oh, I remember! You saved me!]

Xu Ying: ...

She thought that the kettle contained water, not wine, so how could her friend lose his memory after drinking so much?

Xu Ying had to review their previous conversation with the caracal: "You just said that you thought the shallow river you visited would be full of water in a few days. What happened?"

Upon hearing this, the caracal fell into a brief daze again.

After five minutes of waiting, the caracal's brain finally turned on: [After a while, I found that the riverbed had dried up and cracked.]

I heard from a few birds that there was a desert aid station in the south. The station manager was very kind, so I headed south and ended up fainting on the road.

The caracal stared at Xu Ying with its round eyes and began to be dazed again.

After a moment of daze, it suddenly revealed a look of surprise: "Are you the stationmaster of the Desert Rescue Array?!"

[Is this the desert aid station?]

Xu Ying: ...What a silly boy.

She nodded helplessly. "Yes, that's right, it's me."

She had originally wanted to ask about the location of the dried-up river that the caracal had mentioned, but now it seemed...it would be better to ask other little guys.

[Webmaster, can you restore the water to the creek? I've heard so many animals say you can do anything!]

The caracal looked up with an expression of admiration on his face.

Xu Ying felt embarrassed by its fiery gaze: "I will go to the river where you often drink water and let me see what's going on."

After saying that, Xu Ying pulled the bell placed in the corner of the rescue station.

There is a small door in the corner of the aid station, which connects to the sand pit outside.

After a while, the gerbil boss came out from the small door.

After they moved, they started the huge project of digging their new home. Now their new home has been settled in, and Xu Ying has fulfilled his promise to help them fill the warehouse.

The rescue station specially reserved a hole for the gerbil boss. The gerbil boss dug a temporary underground nest near the rescue station. Every day, his younger brothers would stay there to get free food and drink. Everyone was scrambling for the task of staying there, and they all became fat little rats.

Whenever Xu Ying needed help, he would ring the doorbell at the cave entrance, and these "underground party members" would come out to help.

The fatter gerbil boss rolled over like a furry ball. "Master Xu, how can we help you?"

Xu Ying said, "A small river in the north has dried up, and many small animals are showing signs of dehydration. I'd like to ask you, your people, and other small animals in the desert to spread the word that there's drinking water at the Desert Rescue Station."

This was the first time Xu Ying had asked them for help after they had been eating and drinking here for so long. The gerbil boss immediately patted his plump chest and said, "No problem, leave it to me!"

When the caracal saw the gerbil, his eyes widened: "What a fat gerbil!"

Seeing the caracal about to enter a hunting stance, Xu Ying quickly grabbed its fateful neck and said, "Article 1 of the rescue station's convention prohibits preying on other small animals within the station. All animals here are good friends, and fighting is not allowed!"

The domineering aura of the king of animals on Stationmaster Xiao Xu intimidated the caracal.

The caracal immediately became obedient and squatted back on the cold and restrained treatment bed.

Xu Ying plucked the caracal's face and said, "It's usually so slow to react, but when it comes to hunting, it's so fast."

The caracal lowered its head in frustration: "It's because I'm usually slow to react, so I have to be quick when hunting."

[Otherwise, I’d really starve to death in the desert.]

After a while, the jerboa that was sent here woke up.

It opened its eyes wide and looked around: "There are so many high-tech human equipment here, could this be a desert rescue station?!"

As the jerboa spoke, he searched for animals. The eyes of the people in the station fell on Xu Ying, and they immediately looked at him with admiration: "Are you the Station Master Xu?"

Xu Ying nodded vigorously, almost moved to tears by the child's cleverness. You know, it took her almost half an hour to communicate with the caracal before it remembered her.

Jerboa immediately became a little fanboy: [Oh my god, I'm so lucky to be saved by Xiao Xu!]

Jerboas have excellent memories and can remember the locations of their nests and shelters, making it easier to avoid predators. Xu Ying quickly asked it, "Little jerboa, can you lead the way for me? I'll take you north on my motorcycle, and you can show me where the riverbed is."

The jerboa nodded quickly: "It's my honor to serve you, Webmaster Xu!"

The caracal stared at the lively jerboa and said, "Master Xu, can I eat it after we get out of the shelter?"

Upon hearing this, the jerboa immediately hid in Xu Ying's arms, curled up in Xu Ying's arms, with only its long tail hanging outside like a mouse string.

[Ah, you bad cat! Don't come over here!]

Xu Ying shook his index finger at the caracal: "No, because the little jerboa needs to help lead us to the riverbed. This is related to your future survival."

The caracal seemed to understand: "Okay then?"

Xu Ying: "Are you hungry? I'll give you some chicken breast."

Hearing this, the caracal smiled shyly: "A little bit."

Xu Ying took out a piece of chicken breast from the refrigerator, thawed it in the microwave, and placed it in front of the caracal: "Eat it, eat it."

The caracal immediately pounced on the bowl and began to eat the breast meat slowly and leisurely.

Xu Ying looked at the caracal with the same eyes as he would his own fat, silly boy: "Then you rest at the rescue station. Jerboa and I will go to the riverbed first."

The caracal immediately raised his head from his plate and said, "Stationmaster Xu, I want to help too!"

Although the caracal was stupid, it felt that Stationmaster Xu had saved it and it should repay Stationmaster Xu's kindness.

Xu Ying looked at the silly boy with water droplets still on his beard and couldn't bear to pour cold water on him to dampen his enthusiasm. "Okay, come with me and get on my motorcycle."

The caracal happily went out with Xu Ying, holding the chicken breast in its mouth.

The Gobi bear was lying in the bear house, watching the Boonie Bears program that Xu Ying had downloaded on a second-hand TV that Xu Ying had bought from a fellow villager, and was grinning with his big teeth bared.

Xu Ying pulled it up from the big sofa and said, "If any dehydrated animals come to our rescue station looking for water, our little gerbils will remind you. Just turn on the faucet by the sink and give them some water. Got it?"

Gobi Bear nodded and saluted: "Stationmaster Xu, leave it to me."

Xu Ying watched this socially anxious bear gradually become stupider, and could only attribute it to watching cartoons.

After getting on the motorcycle and with the jerboa as a guide, Xu Ying quickly found the dry riverbed that the little animals had mentioned. The river was shallow and the water should come from groundwater.

When the caracal got off the car, its fluffy hair had been blown into a shape by the wind, making it look even more naive.

The jerboa flicked its tail. "This river didn't dry up in the summer when the temperature was higher, but it suddenly dried up recently. How strange!"
