“Little glutton, yes, there are plenty.” Li Xiyue tapped her nose. “But they were mailed back. I got back too late today, and the post office was closed. I’ll have Chen Yu pick them up tomorrow and give them to you.”
"Great!" Huang Xinrui couldn't wait to eat. "Then I'll go tell Chen Yu to pick it up at the commune tomorrow morning. Yueyue, I'm going back now. You go to sleep early. See you tomorrow."
Li Xiyue couldn't help but laugh out loud. This girl.
The room had indeed been cleaned; it was tidy and clean, and the blankets even had that familiar soapy scent. I missed that smell so much.
Strange, it's only been half a month since I left, but it feels like I've been gone for a long time.
Li Xiyue closed the door and took Xiaobai into the space, letting Xiaobai play there while she took a nice hot bath.
I changed into clean pajamas and went to find Xiaobai. I found him fighting with a colorful pheasant, surrounded by many other animals. It was quite a lively scene.
Ignoring it, I left the space, crawled into bed, smelled the familiar scent, and immediately fell asleep.
I slept soundly through the night without any dreams, waking up naturally.
Li Xiyue got dressed, opened the door, and breathed in the fresh air, feeling refreshed and relaxed.
"Yueyue, you're back?" Uncle Xu entered the courtyard carrying a basket of medicine on his back, and immediately showed a loving smile when he saw her.
Li Xiyue ran over and called out affectionately, "Grandpa."
"Oh, good boy, let Grandpa take a look. Hmm, you've grown taller and fatter, and you're full of energy. It seems you had a good trip to the capital."
As Li Xiyue took the basket from his back, she asked with a smile, "Grandpa, are you alright? How about National Day?"
"I'm doing fine. After accompanying me to collect herbs during the National Day holiday, I'm reading at home." Uncle Xu's smile deepened. "That kid plans to go to school in the commune after the New Year."
Li Xiyue said happily, "That's great!"
“He’s been much more settled since I agreed to let him join the army,” Uncle Xu said, sitting on a bench in the yard.
Li Xiyue put down the basket and went to the kitchen to pour him a cup of hot water.
The grandmother and granddaughter were talking in the yard when Erniu arrived shortly afterward.
"Sister, you're back?" Erniu was very excited and ran over.
Seeing that she had grown taller, Li Xiyue patted her head and asked, "Erniu, have you completed all the tasks your older sister gave you?"
"I'm done. Sister, you can test me now," Erniu said confidently.
Li Xiyue actually tested her and found that she had indeed learned everything well, which made her very satisfied.
Erniu is no longer the skinny, pitiful little girl she used to be; she has finally grown up to look like a child her age.
Most importantly, she became more confident and cheerful, which made Li Xiyue very happy.
Erniu's face lit up with joy at the praise, and she ran over to fiddle with the medicinal herbs in her basket.
Seeing that he was as diligent as ever, Li Xiyue smiled and asked, "Grandpa, has anything happened in the village recently?"
Uncle Xu said, "It's nothing much, it's just that Xiangyang went to join the army after the New Year."
"He's gone?"
You left right after the New Year? Was it in such a hurry?
Uncle Xu nodded. "His father's old comrade-in-arms is here to pick him up. The military should have made the arrangements."
Li Xiyue thought to himself, this is good. Joining the army has always been his dream. He had delayed it for many years because of his uncle, but now he can finally fulfill his wish.
"And..." Uncle Xu glanced at Erniu, who was sorting herbs, "Erniu's father saw that Erniu was getting better and better every day after entering the clinic, and wanted her to live with him."
"Where are Erniu's grandparents?" Li Xiyue asked.
Uncle Xu shook his head.
Li Xiyue was speechless.
They ignored their parents and children back then, but now that they see their children are doing well, they shamelessly come back wanting more children, while the elderly parents don't care. What a shameless thing to do.
She looked at the children working diligently and asked, "What did Erniu say?"
Uncle Xu praised her, "Erniu is a filial child and has her own ideas. Of course, she doesn't want to leave her grandparents."
“No matter how much he makes a fuss, it won’t work if Erniu doesn’t agree,” Li Xiyue said.
Uncle Xu shook his head. Things weren't that simple. After all, they were father and daughter. Once the old man passed away, the child would have to go back to him. It wouldn't be good for Erniu if things got too tense.
But thinking that his granddaughter had just returned, he didn't want to talk about these troublesome things, so he changed the subject, "I have some good news, do you want to hear it?"
"What good news?"
Uncle Xu smiled and said, "Our production team has been recognized as an advanced brigade."
