Chapter 41 Life is really great (1/2)

“Comrade Xiangyang, there’s really no need to see me off.” On the way back, Li Xiyue pointed to the night sky. “Look, there’s a moon tonight, the road is clear, and Xiaobai is with me, so it’s very safe.”

She never expected that Xu Xiangyang would offer to take her back to the educated youth settlement.

It is well known that Xu Xiangyang dislikes female educated youth, but recently Li Xiyue has noticed that Xu Xiangyang's attitude towards her seems to have changed significantly since he first arrived.

It is likely because of her various deeds since she went to the countryside that not only changed the villagers' views on educated youth, but also changed his prejudice against them.

Little Whitey barked twice, "I will protect Yueyue."

Xu Xiangyang didn't say anything, and after walking for a while, he finally said, "Thank you."

"Thank me for what?" Li Xiyue asked, puzzled.

Xu Xiangyang said, "You helped me save the rabbit."

Everyone at Xu Dashan's house thanked her except him. He felt he should also thank her, even if it was just for the rabbit.

"You even chased away that drunkard for me last night, so we're even now," Li Xiyue said cheerfully.

Are we even now?

The light in Xu Xiangyang's eyes dimmed slightly.

The two walked one after the other, keeping a distance of three steps, and neither of them spoke. Li Xiyue felt the atmosphere was very awkward.

Fortunately, the educated youth settlement was not far from Xu Dashan's home, only a ten-minute walk away, and they arrived quickly.

Li Xiyue smiled and said, "Thank you, Comrade Xiangyang." Then she led Xiaobai into the courtyard.

Xu Xiangyang stood outside for a moment before turning and leaving.

Pushing open the courtyard gate, Xu Xiangyang heard shouts coming from inside the house. He quickly went in and saw a woman in her twenties run out of the main room. She glanced at Xu Xiangyang, covered her mouth, and ran into another room crying.

Xu Xiangyang sighed and walked into the main room.

The room was pitch black, the windows were closed, and the blackout curtains were drawn. A strong smell of medicine filled the air.

Xu Xiangyang walked to the bedside and habitually picked up the overturned medicine bowl and placed it on the table.

"Didn't you hear me tell you to get lost? How many times have I told you to leave? Don't waste your time on a useless person like me!"

A shouting voice accompanied a pillow flying towards him. Xu Xiangyang caught it and sat down on the edge of the bed. "Uncle, it's me."

There was silence on the bed for a while before a sound came again, "Xiangyang..."

His voice was hoarse, trembling slightly, and sounded like he was crying.

Xu Xiangyang felt as if his heart was being torn apart. He reached out and pressed down on the person on the bed, saying, "Uncle, it's okay, everything will be alright."

Li Xiyue tiptoed into the house. Huang Xinrui was already asleep, so she didn't wake her. She then took Xiaobai into the space.

I washed up in the space before leaving to sleep.

The next morning, the four educated youth went to work as usual.

When they arrived at Uncle Xu's house, Xu Xiangyang was not there. He seemed very casual, coming and going as he pleased, and no one cared about him at all.

Li Xiyue didn't know what was going on with him. Anyway, Uncle Xu said he didn't work here, so she guessed that he might have gone to work somewhere else instead of coming to Uncle Xu's place, and didn't ask any more questions.

Xu Guoqing was left to watch the house, while Uncle Xu and Li Xiyue went up the mountain to gather herbs.

"Girl, you must take me to the place where you gathered herbs yesterday." Although Uncle Xu was old, he was still vigorous and climbed the mountain more nimbly than Li Xiyue.

Li Xiyue replied as she climbed, "Okay, let Xiaobai take us there."

Little Whitey barked twice and then rushed ahead.
