Chapter 56 His Heart Was in Turmoil (2/2)

Hearing her rambling words, Xu Xiangyang's previously tired body instantly regained its strength, and a hint of warmth slowly rose in his eyes. He walked over and said, "I'll do it."

"No need, you're wet, go start a fire, it'll help you dry off." Li Xiyue dodged his hand and continued scooping water.

Xu Xiangyang had no choice but to do as he was told.

Sitting in front of the warm stove, Xu Xiangyang finally felt a bit more awake. To be honest, it was really cold, and the water was really icy, but after saving so many people, he felt that no matter how cold or tired he was, it was all worth it.

After scooping out the water and putting the pot lid on, Li Xiyue found two sweet potatoes and said, "Put them in the stove to simmer; I'm a little hungry."

"Would you like me to cook something to eat?" Xu Xiangyang asked as he used tongs to put sweet potatoes into the stove.

Li Xiyue shook her head, "Forget it, it's too much trouble. I'll just eat two sweet potatoes."

Just as Xu Xiangyang was about to speak, a person walked into the courtyard.

"Comrade soldier, what's the matter?" Li Xiyue saw that the person who came was Chen Yu and quickly went out.

Chen Yu, covered in mud and soaked to the bone, said anxiously, "Comrade Li Xiyue, Deputy Regiment Commander Chu is injured."

"What? Wait for me a moment." Li Xiyue went back into the house to get the first-aid kit, said this to Xu Xiangyang, and then hurriedly left with Chen Yu.

The light in Xu Xiangyang's eyes slowly dimmed.

"The house collapsed, and some villagers were trapped inside. The deputy commander was injured in the arm by a broken piece of wood while trying to rescue people."

On the way there, Chen Yu explained the situation.

Li Xiyue had a plan in mind. She arrived at a village near Wangjia Village and saw that Chu Xun was still settling the villagers and didn't care about the wound on his arm, which was still bleeding.

Li Xiyue was deeply moved; she realized that even someone as powerful as Chu Xun could get injured.

Sigh, look at her thinking. No matter how powerful she is, she's still human, and her flesh and blood body can get hurt.

Chu Xun's spirit of sacrificing his own interests for the people is quite touching. This is what soldiers are like—soldiers who put the interests of the country and the people first and make selfless contributions.

It commands respect and awe.

Chen Yu walked over and pulled him aside. "Deputy Regiment Commander, I'll make the arrangements here. You go and check on your injuries first. I've called Comrade Li over."

"Then you should take good care of those elderly people and children." Chu Xun wanted to say that his injury was nothing serious, but after glancing at Li Xiyue's worried face, he handed over the work to Chen Yu.

Li Xiyue led him to sit under the eaves of a building, looked at his arm. The wound was quite deep, and there were some splinters. She took out scissors from her medicine box and cut open his sleeve.

First, stop the bleeding, then take out some disinfectant to clean the wound. "Disinfectant is irritating to the skin and will hurt a lot, just bear with it."

"Come on," Chu Xun said, unconcerned.

Li Xiyue nodded and used medicine to wash away the bloodstains and splinters from the wound.

Chu Xun remained calm, showing no reaction whatsoever, seemingly unaffected by the pain.

But Li Xiyue knew that it was impossible for him not to feel pain; it could only mean that he had a high pain tolerance.

Li Xiyue then took out tongs and removed the splinters that hadn't been rinsed off, then applied medicine and bandaged the wound.

She worked quickly and finished treating the wound in no time.

Chu Xun kept staring at her, a pleased smile curving his lips. Her serious expression was truly captivating.

Seeing Li Xiyue looking over, he looked away and said, "Thank you."

"You're welcome." Li Xiyue finished packing her things. "Are there any other comrades injured?"

Chu Xun said, "Several villagers are sick."

"Take me to see it." Li Xiyue picked up the things.

After bringing the person over, Chu Xun continued to participate in the disaster relief efforts, working tirelessly until dawn before dragging his heavy steps to find Li Xiyue.

Upon entering the room, they saw Li Xiyue sitting by a child's bedside, already asleep.

Her face was very fair, seemingly glowing in the dimly lit room. Long eyelashes covered her eyelids like two small fans, her nose was straight and delicate, and her red lips were slightly pursed, like a gentle little deer.

He was stunned for a moment. He had never thought of himself as someone who valued beauty, but at this moment he was blinded by this beauty and his mind was in turmoil.
