Chapter 6: The Dog-on-Dog Show (1/2)

"Grandma Zhang." Li Xiyue called out as she arrived at Grandma Zhang's house.

It was lunchtime. Grandma Zhang and her daughter-in-law were in the kitchen when they heard this and came out. They smiled and said, "Yueyue, you're back just in time. There's progress on the house issue. Come in quickly."

Upon hearing this, Li Xiyue quickly followed them into the main room.

Grandma Zhang's daughter-in-law, Liu Chunmei, got up and pulled Li Xiyue to sit down. She said kindly, "Yueyue, my mother has told me everything about you. Your father did something wrong. If your mother were still here... sigh, you've suffered so much."

Li Xiyue lowered her head, looking like she was about to cry again.

Grandma Zhang quickly patted her hand and got down to business: "My daughter-in-law's family is planning to buy a house for their nephew's wedding. They are very satisfied with your house and are planning to buy it."

"That's great, Auntie! Would you like your family to come and take a look at the house?"

Liu Chunmei said, "When I gave birth to my first child, my family went to your house on my behalf to thank your mother. They also visited your home and got a general understanding of your house. Besides, they trusted me and let me decide to buy the house."

Grandma Zhang also said, "Yes, yes, there's no need to look anymore. You're going to the countryside tomorrow, so let's get things done as soon as possible so you can go to the countryside with peace of mind."

Li Xiyue was moved; the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law were genuinely thinking of the original owner's best interests.

"Yueyue, how much do you plan to sell this house for?" Liu Chunmei asked.

Li Xiyue said, "My house is a very neat courtyard house, which is worth around two thousand yuan on the market, but my aunt's family wants it, so I'll give it a discount and say one thousand eight hundred and eighty."

It's already pretty good that it's this cheap, but...

Liu Chunmei said with difficulty, "Yueyue, the price you gave me must be the real price, but my older brother also gave me a bottom line. I'm doing this for my family, and I can't pay out of my own pocket. My mother-in-law is still here. Do you think it's possible to sell it for 1,800?"

Her older brother said it couldn't be higher than 1,800. She couldn't afford to pay more than 80, and she couldn't pay more. She couldn't pay more for her family's business. Even if her mother-in-law didn't say anything, she couldn't do that.

“Or we can do this: give us 800 out of the 1,000, and we'll give you about 100 more for tickets. You're going to the countryside soon, right? It'll be more convenient to have some tickets with you.”

Liu Chunmei was also thinking of her; she really needed the tickets more.

Li Xiyue agreed, "Sure, but could you give me a little more that's valid nationwide?"

“No problem, I’ll go to my parents’ house to get the money first, and we’ll get things done after lunch.” Liu Chunmei was a straightforward person.

Grandma Zhang was pleased to see that the matter had been settled and said, "Yueyue, dinner is ready, let's eat at home."

Li Xiyue didn't want to go back and do it herself, so she agreed.

Next door, Li Bowen and Wang Huilan returned home from the hospital.

The siblings were seriously injured. Li Muqing suffered a concussion, and Li Mingliang was not much better off, with a broken rib. He only woke up recently, and the doctor said they would have to stay in the hospital for at least three days before being discharged.

In the afternoon, Li Bowen had to go to the factory, so after lunch, he asked Wang Huilan to go to the hospital alone to take care of the child.

When Wang Huilan got home and found Li Xiyue was not there, she could no longer contain the anger she had been holding in all morning and cursed, "That little bitch is really cruel! Look at what she did to my Qingqing and Liangzi! How can there be such a wicked person in the world? I don't know how that old bastard taught her to be a decent human being!"

"That old bastard deserved to be arrested. If you ask me, the little bitch should be arrested and shot too, so she won't harm my children."

"My poor Qingqing, such a beautiful girl, has been beaten to a pulp. And Liangzi, I wonder if he will suffer any lasting health problems."

She cursed as she went to the kitchen to cook, but Li Bowen didn't respond at all and went into the room after unlocking the door.

Wang Huilan got even angrier when she didn't get a response. "Why do you insist on bringing her back? This house is still ours even if she doesn't come back. If you bring her back, she'll hit people and demand money, and you won't be able to do anything about it. Isn't this just asking for trouble?"

"Where's the money?!"

Before Wang Huilan could finish complaining, Li Bowen's deafening shout came from inside the house. Wang Huilan was chopping vegetables when she heard the shout and dropped the knife in fright. She quickly ran into the house.

"Bowen, what's wrong?" Wang Huilan had a bad feeling when she saw her husband standing at the head of the bed, completely stunned.

Li Bowen pointed to the empty bedside compartment, "Our savings are gone."

"What?" Wang Huilan hurriedly looked over and saw that the place where they had stored their money was empty. Thinking of something, she quickly opened the hidden compartment of the wardrobe and found that her secret stash of money was also gone. She immediately sat down on the ground.
