Chapter 63 Unjustly Blamed (1/2)

"Suicide?" Li Xiyue was shocked. "How could he commit suicide?"

Huang Xinrui shook her head, "I don't know either. I heard it mentioned by some villagers, but the brigade leader told us not to spread rumors, so I didn't find out anything."

"Is Comrade Xiangyang's uncle still alive?"

“The person is still alive,” Huang Xinrui said. “They were discovered in time, and Grandpa Xu saved them and later took them to the hospital.”

Li Xiyue breathed a sigh of relief; it was good that he was alive.

Xu Xiangyang only has his uncle as a relative. If his uncle were to pass away, he fears he might not be able to bear the blow.

Li Xiyue couldn't sleep well all night, feeling that Xu Xiangyang's uncle's suicide was not simple, and vaguely felt that it was related to her.

The next day she got up very early, wanting to go to Uncle Xu's house as soon as possible to ask about the situation.

After days of gloomy weather, the sun finally came out and the temperature rose, but in the south, it won't get really hot until after May Day.

Arriving at Uncle Xu's house at dawn, I found him lying in a rocking chair in the yard, covered with a thin blanket. The sun shone on him, revealing his silver beard and white hair, and his face was full of sorrow.

Xu Guoqing sat to the side, lost in thought; the usually bustling courtyard was unusually quiet.

"Sister Li, you're here?" Xu Guoqing greeted Li Xiyue weakly when he saw her.

Xu Guoqing was always energetic and lively, and this was the first time Li Xiyue had seen him so listless, except when he was sick.

Uncle Xu beckoned to her, "Girl, come here."

Li Xiyue walked over and sat down next to him.

"Have you heard about what happened to Xiangyang's family?"

Li Xiyue nodded. "How is his uncle doing?"

Although she had never met Xu Xiangyang's uncle, she had worked with Xu Xiangyang before and he had helped her a few times, so they had a certain relationship and she should at least show some concern for him.

"His life was saved, but it also feels like it wasn't," Uncle Xu sighed.

Li Xiyue didn't understand. "What do you mean?"

“Grandpa means that there’s no difference between Uncle Xu being alive and dead,” Xu Guoqing replied, resting his chin on his hands.

A person may be alive, but their heart may be dead?

Li Xiyue asked in confusion, "What happened? Why would someone suddenly want to do something drastic?"

"Speaking of which, this matter is somehow related to you," Uncle Xu said, sitting down.

Li Xiyue's heart skipped a beat; sure enough.

She had never met Xu Xiangyang's uncle. Why would his uncle commit suicide because of her?

Xu Guoqing was indignant. "It's all because of Sister Hongshao. She went to Xiangyang's house and said that your relationship with Xiangyang was not normal, and his uncle heard it."

"My relationship with Comrade Xiangyang is not normal? How is it not normal between us?"

Li Xiyue was so angry she laughed. She usually kept to herself most of the time, and Xu Xiangyang was rarely seen. The two of them had hardly ever spent time alone together. How could this cause gossip?

Xu Guoqing nodded, "That's why Sister Hongshao is talking nonsense."

"Grandpa Xu, even if his uncle misunderstood the relationship between me and Comrade Xiangyang, what does that have to do with his uncle's suicide?" Li Xiyue still didn't understand.

"Sigh, it's all the same old troubles..." Uncle Xu sighed, then changed the subject, "When I was called over yesterday, the bed was covered in blood, and Xiangyang was kneeling by the bed, looking like his soul had been ripped out..."

Li Xiyue could imagine the scene, but she felt a little frustrated. She hadn't done anything, yet she almost unjustly took someone's life.

Sure enough, rumors can kill.

"Girl, I know this has nothing to do with you, don't take it to heart," Uncle Xu said, trying to comfort her when he saw her pale face.

Just as Li Xiyue was about to speak, Liu Hongshao arrived.
