Chapter 13 Successfully Settled

But the children couldn't wait any longer. An An stood up from the small stool and ran to the kitchen.

"Mom, what did you make that smells so good? An An is here to help you."

Yu You was baking the last pancake. Seeing his son's greedy look, he took two warm ones and put them in his hands.

"Are you hungry, baby? Mommy will give you two. You and your sister can eat them first. Don't burn yourselves."

An An smiled contentedly, her bright eyes narrowed into two crescent moons.

He got the pancake and ran out again, stumbling.

The kitchen was just a thatched shed in the yard. Qin Zhiheng stared at Yu You's busy figure.

When did she become so close to the children?

Weren’t you the most impatient with taking care of children before?

She would scold both children if they made louder noises.

"It's time to eat! We only have one pot at home, so we can't make thin pancakes. Anyone thirsty can drink some water."

A bowl full of golden corn tortillas is so eye-catching.

"Mom, it smells so good!" An An said incoherently with her mouth full.

"It's delicious!" Ning Ning said in unison.

Everyone got hungrier after watching it.

Yu Youcai said, "My parents have separated, and I will live with my grandparents from now on."

"Take your time to eat. I won't be eating at home. Send some to my parents while the pancakes are still warm."

They all lived in the same village, and Qin Wei knew that Yu You's grandparents' house was dilapidated.

He said to his two sons, "Zhiheng, Zhidong, don't go to work this afternoon. After dinner, go over and help fix up the house. Ahem... ahem..."

This is as it should be, Qin Zhiheng and Qin Zhidong nodded.

Wang Yuerong sighed and said, "My eyesight is not very good, otherwise I would go over and help your mother clean up."

Not being able to see clearly does make everything difficult. Having both my parents-in-law sick is also a problem.

Yu You remembered that he had a medical kit in his suitcase in the space, which contained a lot of different medicines.

I'll go back in and look through it and see if I can find a chance to take it out.

"Mom, you're doing me a big favor by keeping an eye on An'an and Ningning."

Yu You went over first with the pancake.

Yu You’s grandparents’ house was not far from the cowshed, also at the foot of the mountain.

Yu You looked at the three dilapidated thatched houses in front of him, and the corners of his mouth twitched.

Her parents' house is similar to the one she lives in!

The house was so old that the roof was bent downward and looked like it would collapse at any moment.

The layout is extremely small, and the door is so low that tall people have to lower their heads to enter.

Then she saw her mother coming out of the house, covered in dust, like a dirt person.

Yu You chuckled: "Mom, you are too rude."

Cao Xiu glanced at her daughter unhappily: "We just moved in and are cleaning now."

"Your grandparents are already eighty-four or eighty-five and can no longer work. The house is covered in dust. How did you get here so soon?"

"I was worried that you didn't have time to cook, so I brought you some food."

"My daughter is the one who knows how to love her parents. What did you cook? Is it delicious?"

"Don't worry, Mom. I've been watching you for so many years, so I've definitely learned a little bit."

That's right, during the winter and summer holidays, my daughter cooks all the meals at home. She cooks them in different ways, which is a good way to practice.

"Don't be busy later, come out for dinner!" Cao Xiu shouted into the house.

Yu Weimin came out with Yu Rou and Yu Yuan.

Two hunchbacked old men also came out. They hadn't eaten enough all day, and they were weak and walked slowly.

"Grandpa, grandma!" Yu You called out.

There aren't many people in the village who live to a ripe old age, but my great-grandmother is one of them. They are still cultivating their own private plots even when they are over 80 years old.

Grandpa sighed and said, "Hey, it's Xiaoyou. Weimin, why did you two split up? We two old people are burdening you for nothing."

Yu Weiminkuan’s heart as an old man.

"Why don't you tell me that you brought me up yourself? You raised me when I was little, and I'll take care of you when you're old. Isn't it my duty to be filial? Come on, let's eat first."

Yu Weimin grabbed two corn cakes and gave one to each of the two elderly people.

"Hey, didn't we only get 50 kilograms of cornmeal? How can we eat it like this?"

The dry food was quickly eaten, but the porridge would last longer. Grandma started to worry about the food again.

Cao Xiu advised, "Grandma, we only have this little cornmeal. No matter how much we save, we won't be able to survive the winter."

"I'm thinking of making something and selling it at the supply and marketing cooperative to see if I can make money. We have to look forward. Solutions are invented by people."

Grandpa also advised Grandma: "Eat it. Our Weimin family is kind-hearted and has more prospects than Tiezhu and his wife."

After dinner, Qin Zhiheng and Qin Zhidong also came.

"Dad, my brother and I are here to help you tidy up."

The two men pulled a cart of sticks as thick as arms, which they had saved from chopping wood in the mountains.

Yu Weimin felt that this cheap son-in-law was quite thoughtful.

I gladly accepted his offer: "It just so happens that I want to reinforce the roof. It looks too fragile."

Qin Zhiheng nodded and said to his brother, "Okay. Zhidong, go to the production team and exchange centimeters for some straw, just enough for one layer."

Yu Weimin calculated that the amount of thatch a strong laborer could cut in a day was roughly equivalent to ten work points. This meant that at least thirty or forty work points would be deducted.

Qin Zhiheng, the son-in-law, is not stingy towards his family.

Qin Zhiheng and Yu Weimin borrowed a ladder and found that most of the roof tiles were broken, and the thatch and wood were rotten.

The more I cleaned, the more depressed I felt. It was a good thing they moved in, otherwise the roof would have collapsed if it rained or snowed again.
