Chapter 299 Fabricating Evidence When There Is none

Ye Qingxue woke up to the strong smell of bitter medicine.

After she opened her eyes, she looked at the top of the tent. She didn't speak or make any other movements immediately, but instead felt the movements in her abdomen and below.

Thankfully, the dull pain and tightness passed, and there was no sign of discharge or bleeding. She even felt the baby move inside her.

The child is alright, really alright!

"Your Highness, you're awake. How are you feeling?" Granny Xing was by her bedside. Seeing that she hadn't spoken for a long time after waking up, she was very worried and leaned over to ask her softly.

Before Ye Qingxue could answer, Granny Xing said softly, "The Emperor learned of your ordeal and sent officials from the Court of Judicial Review to investigate the situation. He also arranged for an imperial physician to treat you. The Court of Judicial Review hasn't found anything yet, but the imperial physician has stabilized the pregnancy. Neither you nor the baby are in danger."

Ye Qingxue turned her head and looked at Granny Xing. Granny Xing helped her sit up, and Chunqian immediately placed a cushion behind her back.

"Your Highness, please drink this medicine. It will be good for you and the baby," said Granny Xing. "I have already asked the kitchen to prepare chicken porridge. Once you have taken the medicine, I will have the kitchen staff bring it over."

Granny Xing scooped up some medicine and brought it to Ye Qingxue's lips. Ye Qingxue stroked her swollen belly and drank the medicine sip by sip.

She never dared to think about what would happen to her if she lost her child.

But now that she knew her child was alright, she breathed a long sigh of relief and felt alive again.

Granny Xing fed her medicine, and Chunqian went to the kitchen to bring out some porridge, which she then served and set aside to cool.

After taking the medicine, Granny Xing fed her a piece of candy, and Ye Qingxue finally felt a little stronger: "How is Zhuang Xin?"

Granny Xing brought her some chicken porridge and fed her, while replying, "He has been given a temporary reprieve, but his injuries are too severe. He has lost too much blood and hit his head. We don't know when he will wake up. The imperial physician is still trying to find a way."

Ye Qingxue didn't know what to say for a moment.

Zhuang Xin was also deceived about Mi Rao's matter that day. She could tell that Yun Zhuo didn't want to drive Zhuang Xin away. At most, he would just severely punish him to teach him not to trust people easily in the future.

However, in order to save Mi Rao's life, Zhuang Xin chose to leave the Crown Prince's residence, and she thought that Zhuang Xin had no further connection with the Crown Prince's residence.

I never expected that Zhuang Xin would risk his life to save her in such a critical moment. Why?

Furthermore, how did Zhuang Xin know she would encounter danger? And how did he pinpoint that mountain pass so precisely?

Unfortunately, Zhuang Xin was unconscious and she couldn't ask him, so Ye Qingxue asked about other things: "Has Dongbai returned? How is she?"

Granny Xing's hand holding the spoon trembled, and some of the chicken porridge spilled out, dripping onto the back of Ye Qingxue's hand.

Ye Qingxue's heart sank suddenly. She asked incredulously, "...It's noon now, and we still haven't found Dongbai? What about the carriage she was driving? Have you found it?"

Chunqian's eyes were red, her head was down, and she couldn't speak.

Granny Xing said, "This child was hard-won. The Crown Princess should protect the child first. No matter where Dongbai is, the people of the Crown Prince's residence will find her sooner or later."

Granny Xing's voice was very hoarse, with a slight sob in it.

Ye Qingxue took a deep breath, and the breath slid into her chest cavity, feeling like a knife cutting into her throat and chest cavity with pain.

Everyone was saved, even she, a pregnant woman, was saved. She thought Dongbai would be saved too!

She never imagined that Dongbai would be lost.

That shouldn't be the case.

You can't do that!

Ye Qingxue tried to get up from the bed, but was stopped by Granny Xing, who said in a deep voice, "What is the Crown Princess doing? I know you are worried about Dongbai's safety, but you barely managed to save your own and your child's lives, are you going to throw them away now?"

"Why did Dongbai switch carriages with the Crown Princess? Wasn't it to protect the Crown Princess and the baby in her womb? Now that they've barely escaped death, the Crown Princess is so careless with herself. If Dongbai knew, how angry would she be? She'd probably be so angry that she'd never speak to the Crown Princess again for all eternity!"

Granny Xing scolded her like this, and as she scolded, tears began to fall from her eyes.

Ye Qingxue lay against the pillows, staring blankly at the top of the tent. After what seemed like an eternity, she finally asked, "What did the people who went to find Dongbai say? Was there no trace of him, or was there something else?"

Granny Xing wiped away her tears and was about to speak when Ye Qingxue said, "Chunqian, you tell us. If there's even a single lie, I'll go find her myself."

Chunqian looked at Granny Xing with tears in her eyes.

Granny Xing sighed: "Since the Crown Princess asked you to speak, then speak."

Chunqian then stammered, "...After Dongbai and the Crown Princess separated, the road back to the capital was blocked, so she had to drive the carriage in another direction. Last night she traveled about fifty miles..."

"General Lan's men saw the carriage rush into the river from fifty miles away. The horse was seriously injured and drowned after it went into the river."

"The horses and carriage weren't swept away because the carriage was still harnessed to the horses, and because the carriage was too big, it was stopped by large rocks and tall trees on the riverbank..."

Chunqian's tears fell in a steady stream.

They didn't continue.

Ye Qingxue said dryly, "So, General Lan's men found the horse and carriage, but they were empty. They didn't find Dongbai. Is that right? There was blood, corpses, and scattered limbs near the river, right?"

Chunqian hurriedly said, "There's no Dongbai. She must have been swept away by the water. Maybe she was rescued by some kind person!"

Ye Qingxue closed her eyes.

Without any martial arts skills, Dong Bai had fled for at least fifty miles and must have been exhausted. Yet those were all professional assassins... Ye Qingxue simply couldn't bear to think about it.
