Chapter 32 I'll believe you if you die in front of me.

Madam Wan was pale and trembling all over. Her cousin hugged her tightly and said, "Aunt, don't be afraid. You still have me. I will help you."

"It's her business if she wants to kill the eldest daughter, why should I do it? How cruel she is! We're all sisters-in-law, and it's one thing that she always puts me in a superior position, but now she wants me to take the blame for someone's death. If the eldest daughter dies, I'm sure I won't survive either!" Madam Wan was both angry and panicked.

In the past, no matter how much the sisters-in-law fought, they would never have their lives taken. Madam Min couldn't tolerate the eldest daughter, yet she wanted to use her as an executioner. She was truly ruthless.

"I'm going to confront her right now! Why did she try to kill me?" Madam Wan was furious, but her cousin stopped her.

"Aunt, don't go. If you go and confront her, she'll just say you're framing her. After all, you've already walked so far with this basket. She could turn around and accuse you of deliberately poisoning the medicine after you got it!"

"Then, what should we do!" Madam Wan's lips trembled, and her face turned pale again.

"Aunt, I have a way!" The cousin grasped her shoulders, turning her to face her:

"Based on what I understand, Madam Min can't get any benefits from the eldest daughter, and is even suppressed by her at every turn, so she wants to get rid of her."

"Aunt, think about it. You've been married into the Marquis's mansion for over a decade. How many times have you been bullied by Madam Min? Now, the one who inherits the title is her own son. She's the one who calls the shots in the entire Marquis's mansion."

"Even your younger cousins' future marriages are up to her. If she randomly chooses a husband or wife for them, can you object?"

"Aside from the important matter of marriage, there are also everyday matters. The best fabrics, the best jewelry, the best food—all the best things are always given to her first. She might even try to take them from you. But you are sisters-in-law; you are no less than her. Why should she treat you this way?"

"For more than ten years, Madam Min has had no worthy opponent in the Marquis's mansion, but now it's different. The eldest daughter has appeared and is able to suppress her."

"Why should we go against the eldest daughter? We should stand behind her and push her to the front to deal with Madam Min. Then you, Aunt, will have a better life."

Madam Wan suddenly realized that her niece was indeed clever, but then she thought of other troubles:

"But now that Madam Min has given me the medicine, if I don't deliver it to the eldest daughter, my sister-in-law will know that I have betrayed her. How can I then sow discord between them?"

The young lady asked, "My aunt has lived under the same roof as Madam Min for over ten years. Does she not have any leverage over Madam Min that you could use against her?"

Madam Wan frowned and began to think. Her cousin comforted her, "Aunt, don't worry, think slowly, there will always be a way."

After much thought, Madam Wan tried to recall everything that had happened over the past ten years. Suddenly, a thought struck her, and she quickly whispered it in her cousin's ear.

"Good, very good, this is an excellent idea!" said the cousin. "Now let's change our clothes first, and then go see the eldest young lady. I will tell you what to do next, and I will make sure nothing happens to you, Aunt!"

...

After Han Yu rescued Madam Zhou, she placed her on the couch. It was a long time before Madam Zhou realized that she was not dead and had been saved!

But the door suddenly slammed shut with a "bang," and Ye Qingxue walked towards her with a blank expression, like a vengeful demon.

"What...what do you want to do?" Madam Zhou was truly afraid of her. She really dared to hang a white silk ribbon on her own mother, and she really dared to kick the stool under her own mother's feet!

Han Yu tried to stop Ye Qingxue, but Dong Bai stepped forward, grabbed Han Yu's arm, and dragged her outside: "My young lady and the madam have something to say, so let's not disturb them here!"

Han Yu was dragged out, and the door was closed again, leaving only Ye Qingxue and Madam Zhou in the room.

Having just escaped death, Madam Zhou was extremely fragile and seemed unable to withstand Ye Qingxue's pressure any longer.

The more Ye Qingxue pressed forward, the more she shrank back, until she was backed into a corner, her body pressed against the wall.

Ye Qingxue stood with one foot on her couch, looking down at her with an oppressive aura.

"Madam, how did my father die nine years ago?" Everyone thought Ye Qingxue wanted to force her own mother to her death, but Ye Qingxue never forgot her purpose.

Perhaps by pushing Madam Zhou to the brink of collapse, we can uncover the truth about her father's death.

Madam Zhou blurted out, "Your father was seriously wounded on the battlefield while saving His Highness Prince Ding, and died from his injuries!"

"You're talking nonsense! My father's injuries had clearly improved, and even the imperial physicians declared that he was out of danger. Yet he suddenly died. Did you kill my father?"

Madam Zhou was utterly shocked: "What nonsense are you spouting! Your father is my husband, how could I possibly kill him! Are you insane?"

Ye Qingxue stared at her as she collapsed in fear and instinctively denied it, instantly realizing that her father's death had nothing to do with Madam Zhou.

A faint sense of relief welled up in the corner of her heart, but she suppressed it before it could surface. She sat on the couch, turning to face Madam Zhou.

"Since you didn't kill my father, what about the men under his command? What about the retainers of our Marquis of Zhongyong's mansion? Uncle Tan was injured for my father and should be living in retirement at the Marquis's mansion, but he's nowhere to be seen. Why is that?"

“Your father died, and there was no one left in the Marquis of Zhongyong’s mansion to lead them to the battlefield. They felt that there was no point in staying in the mansion, so they all left. When they left, your second aunt gave them a sum of money. Even Uncle Tan received a sum of money, enough for him to live on for the rest of his life.”
