Chapter 134 Dispel

"Please speak, Lord Sun."

"Could you please ask Lord Sheng to come to the palace to meet the Emperor later?"

Uncle Zhong was taken aback at first, then he understood what he meant: "Lord Sun hasn't made up his mind yet?"

Sun Xingjian nodded truthfully.

Uncle Zhong nodded in agreement. “Don’t worry, Lord Sun, this old servant will relay your words to Lord Sheng exactly as they were. If there is nothing else to say, this old servant will return to the manor to report back.”

After everyone watched Uncle Zhong leave, Wei Ping, who had been watching them speak in riddles, couldn't contain herself any longer and asked curiously, "What exactly was written on that memorial?"

Wei Zheng glanced at her and felt there was no need to hide it. Besides, he already felt somewhat guilty towards Wei Ping, so he told her the truth: "It is to let Xing Jian inherit the title."

"Xi, Gong Jue?"

Wei Ping turned to Sun Lurong with a look of astonishment. She had always assumed that Sun Lurong was from a humble family who had married into a wealthy family like the Wei family, and therefore harbored a deep hatred for her. She always felt that she had served that old hag for so many years, enduring hardship on behalf of her own daughter-in-law, but she never imagined that Sun Lurong's family held a noble title!

"I wonder what title your sister-in-law's father holds?" she asked tentatively.

Although Sun Lurong never wanted to publicize these things, she couldn't ignore them since they were asked to her face. She replied calmly, "My father is the Marquis of Pingyang."

He was actually a marquis!

Wei Ping was so shocked by Sun Lurong's background that she was almost speechless. She was actually the daughter of a marquis? Wei Ping's eyes darted around, and then her gaze shifted to Sun Xingjian, her eyes widening even more.

So, this person before me is the future Marquis of Pingyang?!

After lunch, Sun Lurong took Sun Xingjian to see the courtyard that had been prepared the day before.

The courtyard was not large, with a total of three rooms. One room was the main hall, and the other two rooms were converted into bedrooms, just enough to accommodate Sun Xingjian and Xue Lun.

"I'm sorry to have troubled you. There were originally two large courtyards, but when the old lady came, they were divided between the old lady and the eldest son's family, leaving only this small one." Sun Lurong's words were slightly apologetic.

Sun Xingjian looked around, but was quite satisfied: "The conditions here are much better than at the border. Besides, there's a courtyard where Lun'er and I can practice our martial arts. What's wrong with that?"

Hearing him say that, Sun Lurong felt much better. Then the two siblings brewed tea and chatted about the events of the past few years, eventually talking about the imprisonment that the Wei family had just experienced not long ago.

Sun Xingjian frowned deeply, blaming himself: "I was on my way to Shengjing at that time. If I had traveled a few days faster, I could have arrived much sooner..."

"What good will it do you to come?" Sun Lurong smiled bitterly. "Back then, even when Sheng Gong entered the palace, the Emperor refused to see him. It's clear that no matter who comes, it's useless."

"But thankfully, it was a close call. It seems that the young Prince Qiaochuan can be considered a benefactor to both the Wei and Sun families!"

Sun Xingjian had naturally heard of the young Prince Qiaochuan's reputation before, but had never had the chance to meet him. Now that he had received a favor from him, he felt he should pay him a visit. Of course, more importantly, he wanted to probe the young Prince Qiaochuan's intentions. He didn't believe that this man would really hand over the Prince Qiaochuan's life-saving charm just because of a single act of saving him.

In fact, Sun Lurong had always had this concern, but since the people from the Qiaochuan Prince's Mansion had not made any demands, she did not want to make unfounded speculations, so she changed the subject and asked about another matter.

"Xingjian, you just had Uncle Zhong convey to Duke Sheng that he should postpone his entry into the palace. Is it because he doesn't want to inherit the title?"

Sun Xingjian lowered his eyes. There was no need to hide anything from his elder sister, so he simply told the truth: "I originally did not want to inherit this title, but now I have changed my mind."

Why?

“The Wei family is in a precarious situation in Shengjing. Even with the help of the young Prince Qiaochuan, the mastermind behind the trouble cannot be eliminated. Keeping them around is always a disaster, and who knows how many more times they will cause trouble in the future! If I inherit the title, I will become the Marquis of Pingyang, which will be a maternal family that my elder sister and Wanwan can rely on in the future.”

Sun Lurong was somewhat moved, but in the end she simply said, "You can decide for yourself."

Seemingly sensing that the topic had become too heavy, Sun Lurong joked again: "But if you really become the Marquis of Pingyang in the future, shouldn't you marry a Marquis of Pingyang as soon as possible?"

Sun Xingjian smiled helplessly, but remained noncommittal.

Wei Ping, who was halfway up her hand outside the door, withdrew it after accidentally hearing the last sentence. Her face was flushed with excitement.

She had drunk a couple of cups during the meal, but unfortunately, she couldn't hold her liquor and felt a bit tipsy, so she asked the kitchen to make some hangover soup. Then, remembering that Sun Xingjian had drunk quite a lot, she thought she would do him a favor and send the remaining bowl to the future Marquis of Pingyang.

Just as he was about to knock on the door, he heard Sun Lurong say, "If you really become the Marquis of Pingyang in the future, shouldn't you hurry up and marry a Marquis of Pingyang?"

As expected, Sun Xingjian had never been married, and now he was planning to get married.

And she, too, was about to divorce her good-for-nothing husband...

A widower and a divorced woman arrived at the Wei family home on the same day. Good heavens, what an incredible coincidence! Had she struck gold? Was it truly a case of destiny at work?

With a strange feeling in her heart, Wei Ping suddenly felt that the people from the second wife's family weren't so hateful after all. Perhaps heaven was going to compensate her in another way.

After leaving the courtyard, the flush on Wei Ping's face gradually faded, and the effects of the alcohol wore off. She thought about it carefully, and it seemed rather strange that Sun Xingjian, with his qualifications, was still unmarried at thirty-four.

But she couldn't just ask Sun Xingjian about this directly, nor could she bow down to Sun Lurong. After thinking it over, Wei Ping decided that she could go to Fuquxuan.

During the meal today, she could tell that, apart from Sun Lurong, Sun Xingjian was closest to his niece Wei Shuwan. She also heard the two of them say that they often corresponded, so Wei Shuwan must know the reason why her uncle did not marry.
