Lady Wei was still somewhat puzzled, after all, the chief physician of the Sheng family had sighed before leaving because he couldn't find the source of the poison and couldn't concoct an antidote. However, she didn't want to delve too deeply into the matter; since the young prince had said so, she would just listen.
Wei Ping scoffed inwardly; this young Prince Qiaochuan truly favored Wei Shuwan. Thinking this, Wei Ping turned to look at her daughter. She had been regretting that her daughter had missed out on a high-ranking husband like Du Shao, otherwise she wouldn't have felt so inferior to Wei Shuwan later on. But then Wei Ping noticed that Cai Die's face was deathly pale…
"Die'er, are you feeling unwell?" As she spoke, Wei Ping reached out to touch her daughter's hand, only to find it ice-cold.
Wei Ping's heart sank. Could it be... could it really be Cai Die who drugged Sun Lu Rong and her daughter Wei Shu Wan?
Li Qingchen was a man of action, and he immediately ordered someone to borrow the auxiliary dog. Wei Ping and Cai Die, mother and daughter, were also on edge, like a fully drawn bow, ready to whimper at the slightest breeze.
“It’s getting late today, and it will be dark by the time we get the dog. Why don’t we wait until tomorrow morning?” Wei Shuwan’s interjection brought a slight sigh of relief to Cai Die and her daughter.
Li Qingchen glanced at her, immediately understood, and nodded, saying, "Okay."
At that moment, someone from Fukangyuan came running over to report: "The Second Madam is awake! The Second Madam is awake!"
With Wei Shuwan waking up first, the crowd was not as surprised when Sun Lurong woke up again, but they still praised the doctor's prescription as truly miraculous.
Since the search will have to wait until tomorrow morning, this matter can be considered temporarily put to rest. Wei Shuwan didn't want to see those disgusted faces any longer, so she said, "Grandmother, I'll go see Mother first."
"Go ahead, but you need to be careful yourself. Get some rest early today."
"Yes." After responding, Wei Shuwan withdrew.
Since Wei Shuwan had already left, Li Qingchen saw no need to stay and immediately rose to take his leave. After leaving Zhaoshui Hall, he originally intended to quicken his pace to catch up with Wei Shuwan and ask her a few questions, but he saw that Wei Shuwan was already waiting for him under the corridor, as if by telepathy. He smiled and strode over to her.
Wei Shuwan gracefully squatted down in front of him, and Li Qingchen quickly reached out to help her up: "Between you and me, this is too formal."
"Whether it's the antidote or the matter of the young prince mentioning the need to borrow the auxiliary dog in the hall just now, Shuwan should properly express her gratitude."
Li Qingchen, however, raised the corners of his lips slightly in a profound tone, "Why thank me for the dog? Didn't you already have a plan, young lady? You don't need it anymore?"
Wei Shuwan was slightly startled. Earlier in the hall, she had only said that it was too late today and she would borrow it again early tomorrow morning, but he had instantly understood her meaning. Yes, she really didn't need the auxiliary dog anymore.
Intelligent people don't need to make things complicated, and Wei Shuwan didn't need to ask him how he could see through her thoughts at a glance. She simply said, "Even so, I still have to thank the young prince for his guidance."
If it weren't for him, she wouldn't have been able to come up with that idea so quickly in the hall earlier.
"Consider this a return gift for the perfume you blended for me the other day," Li Qingchen said.
Wei Shuwan felt this was unreasonable, "But the reason for mixing that box of incense was to repay the young prince's favor."
"Only one box is needed to repay my debt, but you prepared two for me." Li Qingchen said this with his hands behind his back, looking very serious, but his eyes inexplicably revealed a frivolousness.
Wei Shuwan's cheeks flushed slightly. She felt increasingly uncomfortable thinking about how she had lied to him earlier about not being able to mix the fragrance properly, only to have him pick up the box of fragrance she had thrown away.
Knowing that she was in poor health, Li Qingchen had no intention of teasing her, so he said, "Alright, let's not talk about this anymore. Go and see your mother."
Wei Shuwan felt as if she had been granted a pardon, nodded, and quickly left.
After taking the medicine, Sun Lurong had been awake for a while and was coaxed by Wei Zheng to eat a piece of pastry. Therefore, when Wei Shuwan entered the room, she was no longer as weak and powerless as when she first woke up and was able to sit steadily on the pillow.
"Wanwan..." As soon as she saw her daughter walking towards her, Sun Lurong couldn't stop her tears. She wasn't usually one to cry, but after hearing her husband talk about what happened that day, how the separation between mother and daughter almost became forever, she couldn't help but become vulnerable and sensitive.
Wei Shuwan sat down on the edge of the bed and took her mother's hand: "How are you, Mother? Do you have any strength?"
“I’m fine now, but you, how could you walk around so soon after waking up?” As she spoke, Sun Lurong unconsciously squeezed her daughter’s shoulder and arm, as if to check if she had lost weight in the past few days.
Wei Shuwan felt ticklish from being pinched, and laughed while dodging, "It's alright, Mother, Wanwan is fine, I'm all better now."
Seeing that her daughter was indeed clear-headed, unlike her own weakness, Sun Lurong smiled with relief: "It's good to be young, but you should still go back and rest early."
"But I haven't seen my mother for many days and I want to spend more time talking to her."
Wei Shuwan snuggled against her mother and acted coquettishly. Wei Zheng watched from the side, feeling inexplicably relieved. He turned around, tucked his eyes behind his back, and said, "Then you two can have a good talk. I'm going to the study."
Only the mother and daughter remained in the room. Sun Lurong then asked about what had happened in the front hall earlier. She only heard her husband say that everyone had gone over, but she didn't know the specifics of what had happened.
Wei Shuwan recounted the events of the previous day in detail, and concluded with confidence, "Mother, don't worry, I will find the physical evidence soon."
Having gone through so much, Sun Lurong naturally trusted her daughter's ability to handle things. If she said she could find it, she definitely could. So she put that matter aside and brought up another one: "Wanwan, don't blame your father."
Wei Shuwan was taken aback, realizing that her mother was referring to the time when she went to expose Cai Die, and her father hadn't stood by her side, but instead silently returned to stay with her mother.
