Chapter 174 Entanglement

Lady Wei had originally intended to ask Du Shao's opinion after things were clarified, specifically which of the sisters he favored. However, given the current situation, it seemed there was no hope with either side, and Lady Wei gave up on that idea, apologizing to Du Shao:

"Young Master Du, my humble abode has been the subject of a great embarrassment today, so I will not keep you here for a meal." The old lady said, giving a slight bow.

Du Shao had never wanted to stand there, but since he was the one in the situation, he dared not leave. Now that he had received these words from Old Madam Wei, he felt as if he had been granted a pardon. He quickly bowed and hurried out of Zhaoshui Hall.

Still filled with resentment, the butterfly took two steps after him, calling out, "Brother!"

Wei Shuyao was also indignant: "Young Master Du!"

However, Du Shao was no longer willing to befriend the two of them, and wished he had wings, so he hurriedly ran away.

The two young ladies wanted to give chase, but Wei Wenshi shouted at them, "Enough! Haven't you embarrassed yourselves enough? Why don't you go look in the mirror and see what you look like? Do you want to go out and let everyone in the street point and talk about you?"

Wei Shuyao and Caidie had no choice but to give up, standing dejectedly in front of the door like two defeated roosters. Judging from Du Shao's earlier escape, he would probably avoid them like the plague if they met again. Neither of them had won.

The joyous occasion turned into a joke. No matter how difficult it was for Wei Ping to understand, she had no choice but to step forward and try to smooth things over: "Alright, you two sisters have already fought and argued. Now that Young Master Du has run away, the family can't afford to make a scene over such a small matter, can we?"

These words pleased Madam Wei, who also wanted the matter to be resolved quickly. She then advised, "Yes, this is not a courtroom, not a place to argue right and wrong. I think we should leave it at that. You two should go back, wash up, and change your clothes. What kind of behavior is this?"

The two sisters, who had been fighting fiercely, were now exhausted and seemed ready to back down. Wei Shuyao was unsure whether to go back to the inn with her mother or return to the courtyard where she used to live to cleanse herself. So she took small steps to her grandmother's side, intending to tell her her grievances and see if she could gain her grandmother's sympathy and persuade the second branch of the family to move back temporarily.

Cai Die was indeed in the wrong in this matter and didn't want to stay any longer; she only wanted to return to Songhe Residence to cleanse herself and change her clothes. However, just as she stepped over the threshold, she heard a strange, sarcastic voice drifting from behind her:

"Elder sister, you've settled what you owed your fourth sister, but what about what you owe me and my mother?"

Cai Die froze, as if petrified. After her earlier argument with Wei Shuyao, she had completely forgotten about poisoning her second aunt and Wei Shuwan. But now, when Wei Shuwan called her back, she felt a chill run down her spine and hesitated to turn around.

Those around them naturally sensed the hidden meaning in Wei Shuwan's words, and Wei Wenshi, who had calmed down a little, became anxious again: "Third girl, what's wrong now?"

"Grandmother, can you guess how my granddaughter got poisoned?"

Wei Wenshi's heart trembled violently. She turned her head to look at Cai Die, who didn't even dare to turn around. Could it be that she was the one who did it again?

Wei Ping shuddered as well, turning to look at her daughter. "It's not you again, is it?"
