Chapter 26 Let it go

Miaoxiang had gathered a full curtain of petals and was about to bring them inside when, just as she opened the door, she felt a sharp pain in the back of her neck. She swayed and fell to the ground. However, she was pulled by some force as she fell, so she didn't make a noticeable sound.

Behind the screen, Wei Shuwan only heard the door open in the outer room and guessed it was Miaoxiang, so she waited quietly for Miaoxiang to bring in the flower petals. Little did she know that the person who entered in Miaoxiang's place was an uninvited guest who could terrify her!

Tonight, Li Qingchen was dressed only in a black outfit. After entering the room, he approached the white jade screen with lotus and moon paintings step by step. Just as he was about to go around it, he suddenly heard the sound of flowing water coming from inside.

Looking at the blurry figure reflected on the white jade screen, it wasn't hard to guess that the person inside was taking a bath. No wonder when he knocked the maid unconscious, she was holding a curtain of freshly picked flower petals.

Li Qingchen knew the principle of not looking at what is improper. He frowned, turned around, and was about to leave the way he came when he heard the sound of sobbing coming from behind the screen:

"Miaoxiang, I don't want to die..."

Only she herself knows how much someone who has died once cherishes this chance to be reborn. She still has so many things she wants to do and so many regrets she hasn't made up for.

In her past life, when Ah Xiu was preparing for her wedding, she was also terminally ill. She couldn't witness her younger brother marrying Ah Yun into the Wei family. She knew that their marriage would be postponed because of her death...

And then there were her parents. Because of the strict rules of the Song family, they dared not visit their daughter casually, so Wei Shuwan always had to find an opportunity to go back and visit them. While the whole family was busy preparing for her younger brother's wedding, she didn't go back even once, and her parents must have been worried. It wasn't until after her death that they learned that her parents had secretly sent her several letters, asking if she was alright. Unfortunately, the Song family stopped them each time.

She also missed her old friends in Jiangzuo and longed for her uncle who was far away on the frontier...

She scooped up handfuls of water and splashed it on her face to wipe away her tears, but the panic in her heart could not be erased.

Li Qingchen listened to the young lady's low, mournful cries through the screen. After a moment, he turned and walked to the table, picked up a brush, dipped it in the water in the brush washer, and wrote a line of cold, elegant characters on the sandalwood table before leaving.

Wei Shuwan, who was feeling down, was startled by the sound of the door slamming, and immediately realized something was wrong. She called out, "Miaoxiang?"

There was no response, and the voice just now couldn't have come from Miaoxiang. Thinking of this, Wei Shuwan hurriedly got out of the bath, wrapped herself in a large cloak, and nervously peeked into the outer room.

There was no one there.

At this moment, she noticed that the desk had changed. Her heart skipped a beat, and she went over to take a look. There she saw a line of words on the desk, written in faded, dry handwriting:

"When the breath is about to cease, illusions will inevitably appear; the underwater treasure chest is utter nonsense."

This was the sentence that Li Qingchen had written in her palm. Wei Shuwan trembled. The person who had just come was actually him!

She immediately pulled her cloak tighter around herself.

After her emotions had calmed down a bit, she carefully pondered the words he had left behind. Last time, he sent his men to kill her, but then changed his mind halfway through. By leaving these words, he meant for her to keep quiet and to let her go.

The remaining statement is: Is he intentionally letting her off the hook again?

Wei Shuwan was immediately overjoyed. Yes, that must be what he meant. He wanted her to pretend to be blind and deaf, as if she hadn't discovered anything today.

It seems that the crisis has been temporarily averted.

Feeling secretly pleased, Wei Shuwan suddenly thought of Ziqiao and Miaoxiang, and hurriedly opened the door to check. Sure enough, she saw Miaoxiang lying on the ground, and not far away, Ziqiao was also lying down.

She panicked at first, then remembered the pinch Li Qingchen had made between Miao Xiang's mouth and nose when he woke her up last time. So she did the same and pinched Miao Xiang's philtrum a few times. Sure enough, Miao Xiang woke up.

Then Wei Shuwan used the same method to wake up Zi Qiao as well.

When the two woke up and saw Wei Shuwan wrapped only in a cloak, and remembering their earlier ordeal, they asked with concern, "Miss, someone just broke in. Are you alright?!"

Wei Shuwan shook her head: "Don't worry, I'm fine."

After entering the room, Wei Shuwan pointed out the words on the table to them and said with relief, "It seems he won't make any more moves."

“But young lady, is this person trustworthy? He tricked you terribly before!” Zi Qiao said, dissatisfied.

Wei Shuwan smiled, dismissing the earlier danger: "If he wanted to kill me, he would have done so just now."

Thinking about it, it made sense. Ziqiao and Miaoxiang gradually calmed down. It seemed that the Wei family had truly weathered this crisis.

That night, Wei Shuwan lay on the couch, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep.

She kept replaying what she had done during her shower, from the moment she heard the door open to the moment it slammed shut. She remembered saying "I don't want to die" and the constant crying.

So Li Qingchen was pitying her?

However, when she thought about how they were separated by only a screen when she was bathing, and how he had lingered outside the screen for a long time, Wei Shuwan felt her heart pound wildly.
