"So, you're here to keep me company?"
Wei Chengxiu smiled and nodded, then handed a bundle to Wei Shuwan: "These are clothes I brought for you, sister. Even if you don't sleep, you can't get cold."
Wei Shuwan smiled, though tears still lingered in her eyes. She took the bundle, opened it, and found not only a fox fur cloak but also a stack of white hemp paper. After quickly flipping through a few pages, she discovered it was a copy of "Admonitions for Women."
While Wei Shuwan was still in a daze, Wei Chengxiu, who had already heard the sound of papers turning, took the initiative to explain: "My sister was punished unjustly, but as her younger brother, I can't help her. I can only help her copy a few pages to share the burden. Unfortunately, I write very slowly, and I have to try my best to imitate my sister's handwriting. I only managed to write these all night."
Wei Shuwan covered her mouth tightly with her hand, afraid that she would cry out loud. She nodded and said, "Okay, I'll take it."
After carefully putting away the papers, Wei Shuwan suddenly remembered that Li Qingchen was still hanging on the roof. He was injured and wouldn't last much longer, so she urged, "Axiu, go back and rest early. Don't worry about me."
Wei Chengxiu, however, was not in a hurry: "It's still raining, I'll stay with you a little longer, sister."
“But I…” Wei Shuwan looked up at the roof with difficulty, but it was pitch black and she couldn’t see anything.
"Is Sister sleepy? That's alright, you can sleep, I'll just read by myself." With that, he took out a scroll of bamboo slips from his sleeve and slowly unfurled it on the table.
Seeing that he had no intention of leaving and that he was blind, Li Qingchen felt that there was no need for him to hide on the roof. So he landed back on the ground and walked behind Wei Chengxiu under Wei Shuwan's astonished gaze.
Hearing him copying and reading, Li Qingchen couldn't understand how a blind person could do these things. Now that he saw it with his own eyes, he understood. It turned out that the characters on the bamboo slips were carved very deeply with a seal-carving knife, making the characters stand out. Even a blind person could read them by feeling with their fingertips.
Staring at the inscriptions, Li Qingchen felt a sense of familiarity; these were the very characters Wei Shuwan had copied from "Admonitions for Women."
So these bamboo slips were actually carved by her own hands, one stroke at a time, for her younger brother?
