19. Chapter 19: Toruvir

Her fluffy black hair was casually draped over her shoulders and tied into two braids behind her ears.

She wore a green satin top with a leather vest over it, tight trousers and a colorful silk scarf tied around her waist that covered her upper thighs.

She had long eyelashes, extremely pale skin, chapped lips, and wore a necklace that was wrapped several times around her neck. The beads of the necklace were made of carved golden birch and the string was a thin, tough leather cord.

Overall, she looks like a heroic female warrior.

Seeing that the two demon hunters didn't speak, the black-haired female elf instantly raised her voice and asked louder, "Tell me, demon hunters, what is your purpose in coming here?"

As she shouted, the elven archers in the trees raised their bows and arrows in a demonstrative manner.

Wayne glanced at Geralt and saw that the white wolf had a stern face and an expression that said, "I'm dumb." He was not going to speak, so he took a step forward and said to the female elf:

"Ma'am, we followed the trail here to find two young men who were lost while cutting wood."

"Their mother entrusted us with this mission and hoped that we would bring them back."

"Looking for someone?"

The female elf chewed on the word. After a few seconds, she grabbed a hemp rope and swung down from the branch neatly. She walked a few steps to a distance of seven or eight meters from Wayne. Looking at his pointed ears, she suddenly asked, "You are also an elf, right? You should know very well how we non-humans are treated in the Kingdom of Kaedwen. Why do you still help those humans to carry out their missions?"

When Wayne heard this, his expression did not change. He still maintained a calm tone and said:

"Yes ma'am, I am part elven, a half-elf."

"But I am also a demon hunter. We demon hunters uphold the principle of neutrality. We will not participate in the fights between forces, nor will we favor any force."

Upon hearing this, the female elf showed a mocking smile on her face and said indignantly: "You can remain neutral, but those unruly people will not let you go just because of this."

"Many of our compatriots did not resist because they wanted to live in peace with humans. Then their bodies were all hung on trees or eaten by wild dogs."

"Humans are selfish and despicable. They cannot tolerate any non-human race. You should know how many elves have died in their massacres."

The female elf did not expect that her words could convince the two legendary emotionless demon hunters in front of her.

She simply wanted to control the indignation in her heart. After saying this, the female elf restrained the anger on her face and said in a tough manner: "My name is Toruweil, and I am the leader of these elves and dwarves."

"The two men you are looking for are our prisoners."

"But I will not hand over the prisoners to you for no reason."

"You can either go to war with us and rescue the people, or you can help us do some small tasks, and when we trust you enough, we will let the two humans go."

Wayne frowned immediately when he heard this. He had some impression of the name Toruveil.

It seems that this female elf will become one of the high-ranking officers of the Scoia'tael in the future and a core figure of the Scoia'tael. In the original plot, she also had some small stories with Geralt and Dandelion.

However, the Scoia'tael was not officially established until more than a decade later, during the first Nilfgaard invasion.

There should be no formal resistance organization among the non-human races now. They only exist in the form of guerrillas. They are forced to hide in the forests and wilderness. It is most likely that they are just a group of poor people who are persecuted by humans and have nowhere else to go.

And according to Toruvir, does she also have a commission that needs them to complete? Wayne thought for a few seconds, then turned to Geralt and whispered:

"This group of elves should also have a commission. Should we accept it?"

Geralt shrugged and said indifferently:

"We just need to maintain a neutral attitude. As long as we are going to kill monsters, we can accept any commission."

Wayne understood what Geralt meant and turned to smile at Toruveille.

"Ms. Toruvir, if the small job you are talking about is a commission to hunt monsters, we can accept it."

"And if possible, I hope you can release the two young people now. Their mother has been waiting for three days. If you delay any longer, the old woman might die of excessive grief."

Seeing the female elf showing an impatient look, Wayne quickly added: "But please rest assured, we will definitely keep our promises. The long-lived elves should have heard about the credit of us demon hunters."

Toruvir seemed to really need the help of the demon hunter. She squinted her eyes and stared at Wayne. After thinking for more than ten seconds, she said in a deep voice, "Don't call me lady. I'm not a lady. I'm just a half-elf."

"We can release the person first, but you have to promise."

"Those two young men can't reveal our location."

"Also, only your companion can send the people back alone. You must stay with us as a hostage."

Wayne was not afraid that these non-human races would harm him. He also wanted to find an opportunity to get Geralt out of the way, so he smiled and nodded, saying, "No problem, Toruvir, my name is Wayne."

"I think you can use the safety of the village and his mother Misha to intimidate those two young men. They are just country folk and should not dare to offend warriors like you."

Upon hearing this, Toruviel looked at Wayne with some surprise, as if she didn't expect him to make such a suggestion.

The female elf thought for a while, then suddenly turned to a male elf on the tree and shouted, "Keep an eye on the demon hunter. I'll bring the others out. If they dare to mess around, shoot them to death."

After saying that, Toruviel turned and walked into the cave, leaving the elven archers on the tree staring at the two of them as if they were criminals.

Wayne and the elves exchanged a few awkward glances. He turned to look at Geralt, and seeing that the white wolf was also looking at him, he asked, "What's wrong, Geralt?"

The white wolf warned in a slightly reproachful voice:

"You were a little impulsive just now, Wayne. It's not safe to stay here alone."

"As demon hunters, we must complete our commissions and be responsible for our own safety. When we encounter dangerous missions, we must learn to give up."

“I will only take risks when I have no choice but to go into danger.”

"Remember, demon hunters are not heroes. They never have been."

Wayne knew that this was a sign of Geralt's concern for him. Even though the White Wolf himself often risked his life for missions, these words had no persuasiveness at all in his mouth.

But he really gave his all to his friends and relatives.

He patted Geralt on the shoulder and said in a sincere and confident voice: "Don't worry, Geralt, I'm sure."

"You take those two people back to the village and deliver the commission. I will stay here to investigate the situation."

"We will meet here tomorrow to discuss the elves' commission."

Now that the matter has been decided, Geralt has no choice.

After waiting for about ten minutes, Toruviel tied up two humans with their heads covered with black cloth with ropes and walked out of the cave.

She pulled the rope, walked to Wayne, handed the rope to Wayne, and said, "I've already told them that when you go back, you can say that the two of them were chased by wolves and hid in the tree for three days."

“If they dare to reveal our whereabouts, I will lead people to their village and kill them.”

Wayne took a look at the two people who were shivering with their heads covered, nodded, handed the rope to White Wolf, and said, "Take them back before it gets dark."

"It's best to wait until we get near the village before removing their hoods."

"This is not only for the safety of these non-human races, but also for the protection of the village."
