Cairnst’s story is not complicated, but the process is sad.
Three years ago, the leader of the Wild Dog Gang was a hunter in the forest. During a hunting trip, he was targeted by a pack of wolves and almost died.
But he was lucky enough to meet Cairnst who was out on a mission. The kind old druid used animal taming skills to disperse the wolves and saved his life.
Unexpectedly, this guy had a vicious mind and invited Keynster to his home for dinner in the name of false gratitude.
As a result, halfway through the drinking, this guy attacked from the dark and knocked Keynst unconscious.
It's like a medieval version of the farmer and the snake.
Then, this guy found a pair of shackles mixed with demon-blocking gold from somewhere, and directly imprisoned Keynest, forcing him to tell him about the method of taming animals. This imprisonment lasted for three years.
Hearing this, Wayne also felt a little emotional. According to Cairnst's description, he was a high-level druid of the elder level from another druid ring. He accepted the mission to come to a forest near Vizima to build a new druid ring.
As a result, such a high-level spellcaster, after being shackled with demon-blocking metal, became not much different from an ordinary old man and was imprisoned for three years by a despicable hunter.
You know, high-level spellcasters like them, as long as they are given enough time and find a magic node to provide them with magic, they can cast disaster-level magic and destroy a city.
All I can say is that in this world, everything is interdependent and mutually exclusive, and nothing is invincible. As long as you find a way, even a high-level spellcaster can be killed like an ordinary person.
After understanding the general situation, Wayne temporarily arranged Keynster on the second floor, found some clothes and food for him, and then handed him the box containing the two magic items.
He had originally been prepared to lose these two unknown magic items and gain the friendship of the old druid, but he did not expect the old man to be so sensible.
He grabbed the dead wood staff, chanted a spell, and used green magic to cast a spell on the strange ornament that looked like an eagle's eyeball. Then he handed it to Wayne and said, "Wayne, thank you for saving me from this difficult situation."
"I've heard that demon hunters strictly adhere to neutrality and rarely do unpaid missions. Now I don't have anything that can repay you."
"This necklace is a magic amulet I made using Hekna's claws and the fish monster's eyeball. I want to give it to you as a gift."
"As long as you wear it, the animals around you will be closer to you and will not attack you. It will also allow you to breathe underwater and swim faster."
"Although it's just a useless accessory, I hope it can help you in the future."
Wayne didn't hesitate to take the Hekna amulet, and immediately felt a special magical power enveloping his body.
He nodded to the old druid and said, "Thank you, Elder Cairnst. You can rest here for a while. I will go back to the city and call a carriage to take you to where I live to recuperate for a few days."
"If you have anything to say, wait until you recover from your injury before making plans."
The old man smiled and nodded, not refusing Wayne's help. Although he had suffered a great loss once for trusting strangers, he was still able to maintain a calm and friendly attitude. He was obviously a druid with a firm faith.
Half an hour later, Wayne returned to the farm on his mount Lucifer and two rented carriages.
He was accompanied by the tavern owner, Old York, and several of his workers.
As soon as he entered the farm, the scene of corpses everywhere made Old York shudder and curse loudly: "Shit, Goddess Melitia, Wayne, how many people did you kill? Did you kill all the bastards of the Wild Dog Gang?"
"This place is simply like a slaughterhouse. I have never seen such a bloody scene since I left the battlefield."
Wayne shrugged. In his mind, there was no difference between villains and monsters. They all needed to be eliminated.
"That's about right, Old York. Anyway, I killed all those who stood in my way, and I didn't bother chasing after those who got away."
Wayne pointed to the two horses in the stable and said, "If you can replace those two horses with Oren for me, you can do whatever you want with the rest of the things on this farm."
"However, you'd better take people to burn all the corpses on the ground, so as to prevent them from attracting corpse-eating monsters and endangering the safety of the surrounding residents."
Old York spit on the ground in dissatisfaction, and said arrogantly: "Okay, okay, little bastard, I'll clean your ass for you."
"If it weren't for you helping us get rid of a troublemaker, I really wouldn't want to get involved in these matters."
Wayne didn't care about Old York's swearing. This old guy had lived in Vizima for decades. Although he was not a powerful figure, he was able to run a tavern in the slums where all kinds of people mixed together for decades. He was at least a local tyrant.
The most important thing is that this guy has a kind heart and is a loyal believer of the goddess Melitia. According to Wayne's vague memory, not only Melissa and his mother, but also many poor people near the tavern have been helped by Old York. He is a friend worth making friends with.
He watched the old man command several young workers with an unhappy look on his face, and began to dig pits and chop wood outside the farm in preparation for burning the bodies. He couldn't help laughing and said, "By the way, Old York, don't forget that I have completed your commission and helped you get rid of the Wild Dog Gang. From now on, I can drink as much wine as I want in your store."
When the old guest heard this, his expression became even more unhappy. He snorted and said, "Come on, little bastard, I am not a person who does not keep his word. With your drinking capacity, do you think you can drink me out of money?"
After getting this answer, Wayne nodded with satisfaction. He didn't care about the money for the wine. Completing the system task was the most important thing for him.
Sure enough, as soon as Old York finished speaking, the system's voice rang in his ears.
Ding! The expert mission [Eradication of the Wild Dog Gang] has been completed.
Gain: 45 experience points, 1 expert treasure chest.
Wayne was delighted to hear that the system rewarded him with forty-five experience points. This amount of experience points was almost ten times that of an ordinary task.
It seems that the system also encourages him to complete more difficult tasks. No matter how many ordinary tasks he completes, the experience gained is quite limited.
Being able to complete only one task each day limits his ability to gain experience.
After taking a look at the sky and realizing that it was getting late, Wayne turned to Old York and said:
"Old York, I have something else to do. I have to go back to the city first."
"There is also a big wild boar next to the farmhouse. I have already dealt with it. Remember to bring it back when you go back."
"I'll just keep some of the pork thighs and ribs, you can take the rest back and sell them."
"Don't worry about the money from selling the horse. I'll come find you in a few days."
After briefly talking to Old York, Wayne took the old druid Cairnst back to Vizima.
It was already late, and after killing the Wild Dog Gang, he was planning to do a few more things before reuniting with Geralt and the others.
