Chapter 52: Little Earth Spirit Cub

Time passed little by little, and the moonlight gradually dimmed. This was the darkness before dawn, and it was also the time when humans sleep the deepest.

Just when Wayne thought he was going to fail tonight.

He didn't know if it was the effect of luck, but his sharp vision suddenly saw a hand like a child reaching out of the well and clinging to the edge of the well.

Wayne's eyes narrowed. His guess was correct. The monster really came out from the wellhead.

However, he did not act rashly, but hid quietly in the dark, wanting to take this opportunity to see what this monster was trying to do.

After more than ten seconds, a metal watering can was thrown out of the well, and then a small creature with purple skin, a wreath on its head and a pair of big watery eyes crawled out of the well.

Wayne looked carefully and found that he was right. The source of this incident was indeed a little earth spirit, and it was a very young little earth spirit.

This discovery made Wayne breathe a sigh of relief. Compared with those demons or other monsters, the little earth spirits were definitely kind, gentle, peace-loving, intelligent creatures.

This is a shy, intelligent, hardworking creature that likes to take care of other flowers, plants, or small animals near its residence. It is also called a guardian spirit by many scholars.

They are similar to human children in behavior and appearance, and like children they like to play pranks.

When being treated kindly, they will secretly help the locals do things within their ability.

When they are treated roughly, they become offended and use practical jokes and magic tricks to play pranks on the locals.

But these creatures do not like lively environments. When a village gradually grows in population, becomes prosperous and wealthy, and forgets its traditions, they will quietly leave the village and migrate to more remote caves or unknown places.

Recalling the knowledge about the little earth spirits recorded in these books, Wayne quietly watched the little guy's actions from the second-floor window.

This should be a female young earth spirit, with bluish purple skin, wearing a wet coat of unknown animal skin. To humans, she looks ugly, but has a very gentle temperament, giving off an ugly but cute feeling.

After she climbed up the well, she looked around somewhat bewilderedly. Seeing that no one had noticed her, she carefully picked up the metal watering can that she had thrown out, looked at the location of the well, and muttered an unknown spell.

Under the power of magic, the metal watering can slowly floated in the air, then descended into the well, and flew out again, filled with clean water.

This scene surprised Wayne a little. Although intelligent creatures like the earth elves have some special spell-like abilities, it is quite rare for a young one like this one to be able to use magic proficiently.

After using magic to draw water, the little earth spirit seemed quite happy. She picked up the metal watering can with some difficulty, then swayed around the house and slowly came from the backyard to the front garden.

While humming a strange ballad, he used a kettle to water the flowers, plants and trees in the garden. He also picked up a small shovel in the garden to help loosen the soil and fertilize the flowers and plants, like a hardworking little gardener.

Seeing this scene, Wayne suddenly realized.

No wonder the flowers and plants in the garden can still grow so lushly after the owner left. It turns out that someone is secretly taking care of them at night.

Although she was only half a meter tall and thin, and her work was quite strenuous, Wayne could see that the little girl seemed to enjoy it.

About an hour later, the little earth spirit ran back and forth between the well and the front yard four or five times, until the sun was about to rise, she finished all the work.

Then, the little guy wiped the sweat from his forehead and put the used tools back to their original places one by one, as if he was ready to return.

Looking at the little guy holding the metal watering can, looking back every few steps, and reluctantly walking towards the wellhead, Wayne couldn't help but smile.

He quietly fell down from the second floor and hid in the corner outside the house. He waited until the little guy walked past him, then he coughed lightly and said, "Hey! What's your name, little guy?"

Wayne's voice obviously scared the little earth spirit.

The little guy shuddered when he heard that, and couldn't help but take two or three steps back. The metal spray bottle in his hand fell to the ground. His big watery eyes looked at Wayne with some horror, and his whole body was shaking.

But this little earth spirit cub seemed to be very afraid of humans, and even though Wayne acted harmless, she was still quite scared.

She picked up a colorful little conch hanging on her chest with her little hands and blew it gently. In Wayne's astonished eyes, the little guy's body gradually became transparent and finally disappeared before his eyes.

If she was facing an ordinary person, she might panic and think that the little earth spirit had disappeared.

But the trembling badge on Wayne's chest and his keen senses told him that the little girl in front of him probably just used some kind of illusion to hide her figure, and her body was still in front of him.

The most obvious evidence is the small footprints left by the little guy on the grass in the backyard when he moves.

Wayne chuckled, looked at the location where the footprints moved, and said kindly: "Don't worry, little guy, I am a demon hunter, but I have no bad intentions. I just came here to talk to you."

It seemed that the word "witcher" caught the little girl's attention. She stopped moving and there was silence in the air for about ten seconds.

A childish voice came from the air.

"Demon hunter? Is it someone who kills evil monsters for a living? I've read these stories in books."

Wayne thought about it and did not confirm this statement, but explained: "Yes, but a person's profession cannot change his goodness or evilness. Even among demon hunters, there are bad people. Some demon hunters will kill innocent people indiscriminately, and they don't just kill evil monsters."

The little guy was silent for a few seconds, then asked, "You said you wanted to talk, Demon Hunter, what did you want to talk about?"

This little girl seemed quite smart, even smarter than human girls of the same age. Wayne also became interested and said:

"I received news that the owner of this house is always subject to various pranks, has nightmares every night, and has suffered some injuries as a result."

"This is a human house, why are you doing this, why are you chasing them away?"

After hearing Wayne's words, the little guy immediately denied it and said:

"No, it wasn't me who did it. It was my brother Fitz who did it. He thought these humans disturbed the goddess' altar and they had to be driven away, otherwise it would be disrespectful to the goddess."

"My father tried to stop him, but my brother was too stubborn and didn't listen to my father's advice."

"He drove those humans away quietly."

Wayne was stunned when he heard this. It seemed that he guessed wrong. The source of this matter was not just a small earth spirit, but a small earth spirit's family, and even the goddess was involved.

"Which goddess is it, little one?"

"Is the goddess' altar nearby?"

The little earth spirit seemed quite simple. She thought for a few seconds and said without hiding anything:

"It's the Lady of the Lake. The altar our family has worshipped for generations is in the cave beneath this house."

"You humans built big houses on it, making all kinds of noise every day, driving away the surrounding creatures, and have affected the goddess's peace."

"That's why my brother was so angry and wanted to drive everyone out of this house."
