Chapter 105: Fire! Barbarians come and kill, seven in and seven out!

It was daybreak, the fog on the Great Wall had not yet dissipated, and a damp chill filled the air.

The soldiers had just changed guard and were preparing to start a new day of patrol.

Suddenly, a soldier seemed to see something, pointed to the distant sky, and shouted in a trembling voice:

"Look! There's a fire over there!"

"What are you yelling about so early in the morning? Where is the fire... huh? Is there really a fire?"

Everyone looked in the direction he pointed, and saw thick smoke billowing on the horizon and flames shooting up into the sky, as if they were about to set the entire sky on fire.

The fire lit up half the sky red, and even the morning mist was dyed blood red.

"Quick, report to the captain!"

An old soldier wanted to stretch his neck out of the city wall, his hand was already on the hilt of the knife, and there was a hint of nervousness in his tone.

Not long after, a bearded centurion hurriedly climbed up the city wall, and a look of surprise soon appeared on his face.

"Sir... could it be that the barbarians are attacking us?"

"Bullshit! Why would the barbarians come and burn down my house? Are you crazy?"

The captain spat on the ground and excitedly shouted to the soldiers behind him,

"Go and report to General Shan!"

Soon, Shan Ling and a group of hundred households hurriedly climbed up the city wall.

She was dressed in silver armor, with picturesque features, yet she carried a fierce heroic air.

Standing on the top of the city wall, he stared at the fire in the distance with a sharp gaze and a frown.

"General, this fire is quite big. It does look like a barbarian camp."

Shan Ling did not answer immediately. She still stared at the fire in the distance, as if she was thinking about something. After a moment, she said in a deep voice:

"Send someone to investigate and make sure to find out what happened."

At this moment, the sound of hurried horse hooves suddenly came from under the city wall.

Several scouts came galloping over. Before their horses had even stopped, the leader stumbled off his horse, gasping for breath and shouting:

"Report! The barbarians' grain warehouse was burned!"

"What?!"

Everyone was in an uproar, and the city walls were in an uproar.

"The food was burned? Who did it?"

Someone exclaimed, with disbelief in his voice.

"Hahaha, God help me! Without food and grass, the barbarians can't fight a damn war!"

A burly centurion laughed so loudly that the city walls seemed to tremble.

Shan Ling did not smile. She glanced at everyone and asked in a deep voice:

"Where is your Lord Xia? Has his patrol team returned?"

The scout shook his head and panted:

"The other patrols have all returned, but Lord Xia's team is still nowhere to be seen."

The soldiers below began to whisper and talk among themselves.

"Master Xia, could it be that..."

Someone was speculating in a low voice, but was interrupted by the person next to him before he could finish his words.

"Don't talk nonsense! Lord Xia is a skilled martial artist, how could anything go wrong?"

Another centurion immediately retorted, but there was a hint of worry in his tone.

Shan Ling's younger brother Shan Xiong said suspiciously:

"This guy has just been promoted to guerrilla general. Maybe he is greedy for merit and rushes to burn the food supplies? If he dies outside, we won't have time to send people to look for him."

"I'm the only one who can go..."

Shan Ling glared at Shan Xiong.

"Junior brother, you are a lucky person, don't be such a pessimist."

She gripped the hilt of the sword at her waist, her knuckles turning slightly white.

"Master Shan, do you want to send someone out to look for her?"

"Wait a little longer."

At this moment, a dull sound of horse hooves suddenly came from the distance, as if the earth was shaking.

"The barbarians are coming!"

A soldier exclaimed, with a hint of panic in his voice.

I saw a few black spots on the horizon getting closer and closer, with dust rising behind them and a large number of cavalrymen vaguely visible chasing them.

"That's... Lord Xia!"

A sharp-eyed soldier suddenly shouted, with surprise in his voice.

Shan Ling's pupils shrank, and he saw Xia He leading the way, followed by his scout team.

They were all covered in blood, obviously having been through a fierce battle.

Xia Heluo was the last one, wielding the iron spear in his hand so skillfully that he shot down the pursuers' arrows one by one.

A white-browed mountain eagle circled in the sky, swooping down from time to time to peck at the pursuers' eyes, causing chaos in the barbarians' formation.

The deafening roar of killing almost resounded through the sky.

"Kill, kill this guy, and cut him into five pieces!"

"Whoever can take this boy's head will be rewarded with a hundred cattle and sheep, and I will make him a general!"

"Abagu (kill)! Hamuya (beast)!"

In the crowd, Tuoba Lie was furious!

"Quick! Open the city gate! Support General Xia!"

Shan Ling reacted the fastest and gave orders sternly.

The drums beat loudly, the city gates opened wide, and hundreds of cavalrymen poured out like a tide.

"Kill the barbarians!"

Seeing the reinforcements coming, Xia He laughed loudly, turned his horse's head, and shouted:

"Brothers, fight back!"

The two sides immediately engaged in a fierce battle, with swords flashing and blood and flesh flying everywhere.

Although the barbarians had a large number of people, their food and supplies had been burned, their morale was low, and they were already exhausted after the long journey.

The defenders of the Great Wall were well-rested and in high spirits, and they soon gained the upper hand.

Xia He fought even more bloody, the spear in his hand was so fast and sharp that no one could stop it as long as it landed on the barbarians.

"Get out of my way! I want to kill this guy myself!"

Seeing his men falling one by one, Tuoba Lie became so angry that his eyes turned red. He was about to rush forward and fight to the death, waving his long sword, but was held back by several of his personal soldiers.

"Chief, we can't fight anymore! Let's retreat first and make plans after we meet up with the other two groups!"

The personal soldier advised anxiously, with a hint of pleading in his voice.

Tuoba Lie gnashed his teeth, stared at Xia He, and roared:
