Chapter 164: Calling, Seeking, and the Blood of Two Kinds of Beasts

In the next two days, Xia He continued to practice martial arts as usual.

Early in the morning of the third day, the emperor's order finally came down.

As expected, the names of Xia He, Liu Rushuang and Tie Zhan were on the list, and they were all appointed as captains and went to war with the army.

However, the position of commander-in-chief did not fall to any of them, but was taken by a general transferred from the neighboring Mingzhou.

This man's name was Zhao Tiangang. He held a Fang Tian Hua Ji in his hand. He was tall and mighty, with a stern face and a serious expression. He looked like a veteran who had been on many battlefields.

Xia He had no objection to this.

He has little experience in the army, and it would be strange if the old emperor gave him the position of commander-in-chief easily.

What's more, the mission of this expedition is arduous and the position of commander-in-chief is a heavy responsibility. Zhao Tiangang is obviously more suitable to lead the entire army than him.

"Are you going to bring a reserve battalion to assist?"

Due to the urgency of the matter, he had to set off the day after the appointment was issued.

After hearing the news, Li Huilan couldn't help but feel worried.

Seeing this, Xia He gently held her hand and comforted her softly:

"Lan'er, don't worry. We are just assisting this time, not the main force, so there won't be much danger."

Li Huilan looked up at him, tears in her eyes, and whispered:

"But the battlefield is dangerous and swords are merciless. How can I not worry?"

Xia He smiled, stretched out his hand to smooth her frown, and said in a relaxed tone:

"When have you ever seen anything happen to me?"

Hearing this, Li Huilan forced a smile and nodded.

She knew that since it was an appointment by the imperial court, her Heger had no reason to refuse. It would be useless for her to say more, and she could only pray for him silently.

"Lan'er, I'm leaving tomorrow. A night of spring is worth a thousand gold!"

"Let's not waste time, hehe."

After dinner, Xia He was about to spend some time with Li Huilan when his nephew Xiaowen suddenly rushed in from outside the door with a pitiful look on his face.

Seeing this, Xia He couldn't help but smile and said:

"Little rascal, what's wrong with you? Who bullied you?"

Xiao Wen lowered his head, hesitated for a long time, and suddenly took off his pants and said in a crying voice:

"Uncle, can you please stop hitting my aunt? My aunt is very nice to me, just hit me!"

After hearing these words, Xia He and Li Huilan were stunned for a moment, then they understood.

Li Huilan blushed so much that she wished she could find a hole to crawl into.

Xia He was also at a loss for words, and asked helplessly, "Who told you that I beat your aunt?"

Xiao Wen answered with sobs:

"Yes...my mother asked me to eavesdrop and hear it. My aunt was beaten by you and screamed..."

When Xia He heard this, he was speechless.

"Damn it, when did you eavesdrop on me?"

I didn’t expect that Li Huiying, who looks dignified and serious on weekdays, actually likes this!

He shook his head helplessly, squatted down and said to Xiaowen:

"Xiao Wen, your uncle didn't beat your aunt. Your mother heard it wrong. Don't listen to these nonsense in the future, okay?"

"Really?"

"Really not. When has your uncle ever lied to you?"

Xiaowen nodded, not quite understanding.

Xia He immediately called the maid and sent Xiaowen back to rest.

After Xiaowen left, Li Huilan's face was still flushed with shame, and she lowered her head, not daring to look at Xia He.

Seeing this, Xia He couldn't help but laugh:

"What are you afraid of? We are husband and wife, what is there to be embarrassed about? If it really doesn't work, I'll have the maids stand guard outside the door and see who dares to eavesdrop!"

Hearing this, Li Huilan quickly shook her head:

"Don't! This will make me even more embarrassed..."

Xia He looked at her shy appearance, his heart beating fast. He smiled and couldn't help himself any longer, so he hugged her in his arms.

However, just when the two were in love, there was a sudden knock on the door.

Xia He suddenly became angry and cursed in his heart:

"Someone really dares to eavesdrop!"

He suppressed his anger and asked in a deep voice, "Who?"

A maid's timid voice came from outside the door:

"Master, someone outside the mansion wants to see you. He said it's urgent."

"What the hell, is there anything more urgent than what I have now?"

Although he was reluctant, Xia He quickly tidied his clothes and strode out of the room.

With some impatience, he walked quickly towards the front hall.

After stepping into the front hall, he unexpectedly discovered that the visitors were Gu Changfeng from Tiangong Pavilion and his aunt Gu Qingyi.

Xia He was confused but he remained polite and raised his hand to signal the maid to serve tea.

He sat in the main seat, glanced between the two of them, and said:

"Master Gu, I am grateful for your visit so late at night. What is the important matter?"

Gu Changfeng looked solemn, and bowed slightly, saying:

"General Xia, I am sorry to bother you. I know that you will be leaving for Youzhou tomorrow, and I don't know when you will be back, so I came to ask you a favor."

Xia He raised his eyebrows when he heard this, and became even more confused:

"Oh? I wonder what Master Gu needs my help with?"

Gu Changfeng glanced at Gu Qingyi beside him, sighed, and said slowly:

"This matter concerns my aunt's life. My aunt told me that General Xia is a fire sign..."

When Xia He heard this, he was stunned.

Looking at Gu Qingyi, I saw that she still looked a little embarrassed and shy, but also very calm.

"If the fire poison in her body cannot be suppressed, Aunt Gu may not live for more than a month..."

Xia He felt strange in his heart, and after a moment of silence, he said:

"This matter is of great importance, and Xia is having a hard time making a decision. Besides, I will be going out for the battle tomorrow, and the dangers are unpredictable. I am afraid..."
