King Yama is Bao Zheng. He was originally the King of Yama in the First Hall of the Ten Palaces, but he was too compassionate to the people and would let people "resurrect" from time to time. Finally, he was demoted to the Fifth Hall and was replaced by King Qin Guang as the King of Yama in the First Hall.
The King of Fengdu of the Yama Dynasty bowed and then said to Fang Jian, "Your Majesty, Hongqing Emperor, I believe that as long as the gods of the underworld are compassionate, they can benefit all living beings. Therefore, I do not do favors for others. I only extend the lifespan of kind people in the world for free."
Fang Jian asked, "Then, King Yama, do you also agree with the idea of 'accounts of favors'?"
King Yama said, "Your Majesty, Emperor Hongqing, I do not agree with the idea of favors being calculated, and I am also against the idea of favors being calculated."
"Oh?" Fang Jian's eyes lit up and he said, "Tell me your reasons."
King Yama said, "I believe that favors should not be given. As long as a person is kind in the world, the underworld should directly grant him additional lifespan. This is a merciful act of the underworld gods and should not be tainted by human feelings."
Fang Jian was stunned. It seemed that King Yama was even more extreme. "Wouldn't the world be in chaos if this happened? Life and death are determined by fate, how can it be changed?" Fang Jian said calmly, "King Yama, this is even more unacceptable."
King Yama wanted to speak out again, but Fang Jian simply waved his hand and said, "King Yama, please take a seat."
King Yama was somewhat disappointed and could only bow and say, "I obey the law."
Then Fang Jian looked at the other Yama Kings and asked, "Do you have anything else to say?"
The Chakravartin of the Tenth Hall stood up, holding a jade sceptre in his hand, and bowed, saying, "Your Majesty, the Emperor Hongqing, I have something to say."
Fang Jian raised his hand and said, "Please speak, King of the Wheel of Time."
The Wheel-Turning King said, "Emperor Hongqing, this favor debt is certainly a way for the underworld to perform its duties in the human world, but there is actually another way. With this method, we can completely eliminate the favor debt."
Upon hearing this, Fang Jian immediately said, "Hurry and play it."
The Wheel-Turning King said, "Emperor Hongqing, the reason the Underworld has to pay favors is because its inhabitants need the cooperation of cultivators and great virtues from all sides to conduct their work in the human world. But when Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva was in the Underworld, our inhabitants could travel freely in the Taoist and Buddhist realms, and cultivators and great virtues from all sides would actively cooperate."
"So," the Wheel King said, "I believe we can re-entrust the great masters of Taoism and Buddhism to enter the underworld to govern. This way, there will be no need for these 'favors', and the ghost soldiers and ghost messengers can freely enter and exit the Taoist and Buddhist temples."
When Fang Jian heard this, he looked at the Wheel King deeply, then shook his head and said, "No."
As for why it's not possible, is there any need to explain it? It took a lot of effort to expel the Taoist and Buddhist forces from the underworld and heaven, so how can we welcome them back?
When the Chakravartin heard Fang Jian say no, he said no more and just bowed.
Fang Jian said, "Please take a seat."
The Chakravartin thanked him and then got down from his seat.
"After all, it's still a problem of those big sects." But when it came to this point, Fang Jian softened his stance. Now that the Chaos Evil God had appeared, both Taoism and Buddhism were forces that Fang Jian had to unite.
Besides, the underworld is not forced to do this favor by Taoism or Buddha, but it is the working rule of the underworld's "grassroots staff". You should always make more good friends, right?
Although "little ghosts are difficult to deal with", for these little ghosts, those Taoist virtuous and powerful people are the ones they can only look up to. "Since the three fellow Taoists all agree on the existence of favor accounts, let's set up a supervisory body first to see the results and then take any action." Fang Jian said to Erlang Shen, Sun Wukong and Dongyue Emperor.
However, Fang Jian immediately added, "But let me be frank. If this 'favor account' ever becomes problematic, please don't blame me for not respecting my comrades."
Having said that, Fang Jian swept his cold eyes over the gods of the underworld. The gods of the underworld felt a chill all over their bodies, as if they had fallen into an icy cave.
Finally, Fang Jian directly announced: "Imperial decree: From now on, the Great Emperor Tianqi Rensheng of Dongyue will oversee all affairs of Fengdu and the underworld gods!"
