The Sun Star God seemed to be convinced by Yan Hui. He bowed to Yan Hui and then returned to the immortal group.
After the Sun Star God returned to the ranks of immortals, no one opposed him anymore. After all, Confucius was absolutely qualified to be the God of Justice in terms of both his Taoism and ability.
Confucius' "ritual and music system" is exactly the system needed by the Jade Emperor now, so it is both reasonable and logical to let Confucius be the god of justice.
The Jade Emperor glanced at the gods and immortal officials in the Lingxiao Palace, especially at the Nine Heavens Mysterious Lady, and then asked emphatically, "Do you have any other candidates?"
As soon as the Great Celestial Venerable finished speaking, the Queen Mother of the West bowed her head, holding a jade sceptre, and said, "Your Highness, the Jade Emperor, I would like to recommend someone."
"Oh?" The Jade Emperor raised an eyebrow. He knew that both the Eastern King and the Western Queen Mother were on the side of the Nine Heavens Mysterious Lady, so he immediately asked, "Who would you like to recommend, Taoist friend the Western Queen Mother?"
The Queen Mother of the West said, "The Immortal Wenshi, Yin Xi."
Yin Xi, who was standing among the immortals, suddenly raised his head. This recommendation came too suddenly. He was about to step forward to decline, but was stopped by a jade hand.
Yin Xi turned his head and saw that the person who stopped him was He Xiangu, the Jade Qiong Zhenren, one of the Eight Immortals of the Upper Cave.
Yin Xi looked at He Xiangu with some doubt, but she walked out first, holding a jade sceptre in her hand and bowing. "Your Majesty, I believe that Her Majesty the Queen Mother of the West's recommendation of Wenshi Zhenren as the God of Justice is quite reasonable. Wenshi Zhenren was once the Immortal Master of the Cave God Hall. He is highly respected and has an outstanding reputation, which is enough to suppress the lawless and rebellious people in the three realms."
Following He Xiangu's lead, a group of immortals from the Taoist sect came out to support Master Wenshi as the god of justice.
The power of Taoism is not comparable to that of Confucianism. In just three breaths, more than four hundred immortal officials stood up to express their support for Master Wenshi.
Only Li Tieguai did not stand up to express his position, because he was able to return to the heavenly immortal team this time because of his contribution in assisting the Jade Emperor to ascend the throne, so it was difficult for him to take sides with either the Jade Emperor or the Queen Mother of the West.
Although the Taoist immortal officials were numerous and powerful, the Confucian immortal officials did not retreat. Instead, they argued with the Taoist immortals.
Both sides quoted from classics and expressed their views here in the Lingxiao Palace, ranging from the morality of Confucius and Yin Xi to the laws, precepts, Taoism and scriptures of Taoism and Confucianism. It can be said to be an all-round debate.
However, the two sides fought back and forth in this debate. Naturally, there were not as many eloquent people in the Taoist school as in the Confucian school, so even though the Taoist school had more people and more power, it still ended up in a draw with the Confucian school.
Seeing that both sides were arguing endlessly but could not reach a conclusion, the Zen Master Fahai, the judge on duty today, immediately shouted loudly, "Silence."
Following a loud shout from Zen Master Fahai, the Taoist and Confucian schools that were debating immediately stopped arguing, bowed to each other, and finally retreated back to the ranks of immortals.
Seeing that both sides were unable to defeat each other in the debate, the Jade Emperor knew that it would be difficult for him to appoint Confucius as the God of Justice.
First of all, if he forced the appointment when so many immortal officials had different opinions, not to mention whether the Queen Mother of the West would directly refute it, this kind of self-willed behavior would undermine the dignity of the Jade Emperor, and he absolutely could not do this.
Then the Jade Emperor passed by the crowd and asked the Nine Heavens Mysterious Woman directly, "What does the Great Emperor Juntian think?"
The Lady of the Nine Heavens immediately stood up, held the hu tablet in both hands and bowed, saying, "Replying to the Great Celestial Venerable, I believe that Yin Xi, the Immortal Wenshi, should be appointed to this position."
The Jade Emperor nodded, then asked Fang Jian, "What does the Great Emperor Hongqing think?"
Fang Jian pondered for a moment, then stood up and bowed, saying, "Your Majesty, since we are selecting the God of Justice, we should prioritize practical application. What's the point of just arguing in the High Heaven Palace, even if you win? Ultimately, it all comes down to whether one's abilities are up to par for the position of God of Justice."
The Jade Emperor's eyes lit up. "Great Emperor Hongqing means to let Master Wenxuan and Master Wenshi take charge of the Heavenly Law first to see how capable they are?"
"That's right. We can first issue an imperial decree to recall Master Wenxuan from the Demon Realm and have him and Master Wenshi take on the position of 'Heavenly Judge' temporarily. We can then see his ability to enforce the Heavenly Law and decide whether he is suitable for the position of the God of Justice." Fang Jian said.
The Jade Emperor immediately looked towards the Lady of the Nine Heavens and said, "Emperor Juntian, do you think what Emperor Hongqing said is feasible?"
The Lady of the Nine Heavens said, "I think it is feasible."
Upon hearing this, the Jade Emperor immediately called out, "Pure Source Wonderful Dao Zhao Hui Ren Sheng Emperor."
Erlang Shen immediately responded and bowed, saying, "Your Majesty is here."
The Jade Emperor said, "I have you issue an edict immediately, ordering Master Wenxuan to return to Heaven and serve in the Heavenly Court with Master Wenshi."
Erlang Shen held the hu tablet in both hands, bowed and said, "I will obey the order of the law."
Afterwards, the Jade Emperor ordered Taibai Jinxing to announce the withdrawal of the court. The sky above the Lingxiao Palace was slowly covered by endless golden clouds, making it impossible for the gods and immortals below to see the situation above the sky anymore.
After the Jade Emperor left, the Queen Mother of the Nine Heavens glanced at Fang Jian and then left the Lingxiao Palace.
When Fang Jian was about to leave, Queen Mother Xi came forward, grabbed Fang Jian's arm and said, "Great Emperor Hongqing, who do you have in mind to be the God of Justice?"
Fang Jian turned around and looked at the Queen Mother of the West, then slowly pulled his arm away from her hand and said, "Whoever is suitable to be the God of Justice will be chosen by me."
Queen Mother Xi laughed and said, "But the Great Emperor Juntian is optimistic about Master Wenshi. Can you compete with her?"
Fang Jian said calmly, "The job of an Immortal Official is to look at ability, not who is more favored by whom."
