Set off

Set off

Xu Zhiyi slept soundly, she had never felt so at peace.

The car bumped slightly and she woke up in a daze, only to find that her whole body was lying in Song Chengrui's arms.

She hurriedly supported herself with her hands and climbed up, her whole face flushed.

"woke up?"

Song Chengrui's voice came from above his head.

"Well..." She rubbed her eyes a little embarrassedly, "How long have I been sleeping?"

"It won't be long. We'll be there soon." Song Chengrui rubbed his shoulders, his tone full of care and protection for her, without a trace of anger or complaint.

Xu Zhiyi noticed his movements, his eyes softened, and he whispered, "Thank you."

Song Chengrui didn't say anything, just smiled and gently shook her hand.

Zhang Ningxia in the back row witnessed all this and let out exaggerated sighs from time to time.

"Tsk tsk, I can't hide it anymore."

Xu Zhiyi looked over from the gap in her seat. Zhang Ningxia pointed at her phone and signaled her: "Go back, remember to treat me and keep my mouth shut~"

Song Chengrui was very calm and replied on behalf of Xu Zhiyi, "Sure, what do you want to eat?"

"That's a lot, I'd like to take a good look!"

After saying that, she opened her phone and went to discuss places to eat and drink with others.

Xu Zhiyi was much bolder this time, leaning on his shoulder, "Why have you become so generous?"

Song Chengrui raised the corner of his mouth and raised his eyebrows: "When have I ever been ungenerous?"

The two chatted and laughed and soon arrived at the station.

After their relationship was made public, they no longer had to hide when going out, and they could call each other at home in advance to make appointments when going out.

However, Xu Zhiyi was still a little worried and did not dare to be too blatant in front of Xu Wangping.

Everything is done in secret and quietly.

One day in mid-July, Song Chengrui mysteriously asked Xu Zhiyi to come out in the evening and said he would take her somewhere.

In the evening, he appeared downstairs of her house on a bicycle.

Xu Zhiyi jumped into the back seat and naturally put her arms around his waist. The night breeze blew on her face, bringing the warmth and comfort unique to summer nights.

"Where are you going?" she asked curiously.

"You'll know when you get there." Song Chengrui kept the secret and pedaled quickly.

Finally, the car stopped outside a small park on the outskirts of the city.

This place seems to have been built not long ago, with few tourists and a quiet environment.

Song Chengrui held her hand and walked through a small woods as if he was familiar with the route. Suddenly, the view in front of him opened up.

It was an open grassland, facing the night sky at the edge of the city that was not blocked by tall buildings.

"The stars are very clear here." Song Chengrui pulled her to sit down and looked up at the sky.

Sure enough, the night sky was like dark blue velvet, dotted with tiny diamonds, a rare sight in the city center.

"How did you find this place?" Xu Zhiyi asked in surprise.

"When I was upset, I would ride my bike around and stumble across it."

Song Chengrui spoke in a relaxed tone, but Xu Zhiyi could imagine him alone at that time. She felt a little sad in her heart and couldn't help but lean closer to him.

The two of them lay side by side on the soft grass, quietly looking at the starry sky.

"Xu Zhiyi." Song Chengrui suddenly called her in a low voice.

"Um?"

He turned sideways, stared into her eyes, and said with an unprecedented seriousness: "The acceptance letter will be here soon."

Xu Zhiyi's heart skipped a beat. This was a topic that they had been avoiding intentionally or unintentionally.

Although I feel good after estimating my scores and have carefully considered the choices I made, no one can guarantee that everything will be perfect until the last moment.

"Yeah," she responded softly, with a hint of barely perceptible nervousness, "almost."

"No matter what the outcome is," Song Chengrui held her hand, his fingertips firm and powerful, "We agreed to meet often. I will come to you, and you should come to me. You are not allowed to…" just because we are far apart or have met new friends.

He couldn't continue, and seemed a little annoyed at himself for saying such words without confidence.

However, Xu Zhiyi understood his unfinished worries.

She turned over, facing him, and looked into his eyes carefully in the dim light: "Song Chengrui, listen to me. I was the one who liked you first, and I was the one who grabbed you first. So, unless you let go first, I will never let go."

Her voice was not loud, but it was filled with a resolute determination, like a stone thrown into the center of a lake, creating ripples in Song Chengrui's heart.

He stared at her blankly, his chest filled with a burning emotion.

The next second, he reached out and gently held her face, his forehead against hers, their breaths mingling.

"I won't." His voice was hoarse, with a solemn promise, "Xu Zhiyi, I never will."

They were so close that they could see each other's eyelashes clearly. Song Chengrui's fingertips were burning. He slowly lowered his head and gently pressed his warm lips on Xu Zhiyi's forehead.

Xu Zhiyi did not dodge, but just closed her eyes and felt the other person's breath spreading on her face.

The kiss did not last long. Song Chengrui seemed to have used up all his courage, and as if he was afraid of offending her, he left quickly.

But his forehead was still against hers, his breathing was a little disordered, brushing against her skin, making it itchy.

"Stamped." Song Chengrui's voice was low and hoarse, with a little imperceptible tremor, but it was extremely firm. "Xu Zhiyi, you can't run away."

Xu Zhiyi couldn't help but laugh, her eyes sparkling. She teased him deliberately, "Who's going to run away? Didn't someone just say they'd never let go?"

"Yeah, I said so." Song Chengrui also smiled, lying back beside her, holding her hand tightly, interlocking their fingers, "Do what you say."

Xu Zhiyi felt that the happiness at this moment was so strong that it was almost unreal.

She quietly exerted force and shook Song Chengrui's hand back. Feeling his increased strength, she felt at ease.

"Song Chengrui."

"Um?"

"Will we always be like this?"

Song Chengrui turned his head to look at her, his tone extremely serious: "Yes. It will be better than now."

He paused, as if making a promise, "I will work hard to keep us this good."

Xu Zhiyi looked at him gently, "Okay, I believe you."

It was not until the night deepened and the dew became slightly cooler that Song Chengrui pulled Xu Zhiyi up.

"Let's go, let me take you home. It's too late and your dad will be worried."

The bike ride back was much slower. Xu Zhiyi still held Song Chengrui's waist, her cheek pressed against his broad back. Listening to his strong heartbeat, she felt that the summer night breeze was sweet.

When they got downstairs of their house, they lingered for a while.

"Come on up quickly." Song Chengrui rubbed her hair.

"I'll watch you go." Xu Zhiyi shook his head.

"No, you go up first. I'll see you go in before I leave." Song Chengrui insisted.

In the end, Xu Zhiyi couldn't resist him and walked into the apartment building, looking back every few steps.

Finally, the admission letters were delivered soon. Xu Zhiyi and Song Chengrui also received them. They understood each other tacitly, and the biggest crisis was resolved. Even the air became sweet.

As the university term draws closer, packing becomes a top priority.

Xu Zhiyi was dragged by Xu Wangping to buy various daily necessities, and he kept nagging her to be careful about this and that when she was alone outside.

Xu Zhiyi listened patiently, feeling both longing for an independent life and a little timid about leaving her familiar environment.

That day, she was sorting out her newly bought clothes at home when her cell phone rang. It was Song Chengrui.

"What are you doing?"

"It's such a headache to pack up my things." Xu Zhiyi complained deliberately.

"Come down?" Song Chengrui's voice was filled with laughter. "I'm downstairs from your house."

Xu Zhiyi told Xu Wangping that he was going to find Zhang Ningxia to get some review materials, then slipped away.

"Here." Song Chengrui handed her a carefully packaged square box.

"What is this?" Xu Zhiyi took it curiously.

"It's a back-to-school gift. Don't open it now. Wait until you get to school to see it." Song Chengrui instructed mysteriously.

Xu Zhiyi touched the box, feeling sweet inside. She also took out a small bracelet from her back. It had a small lucky bead on it. The red string set off her white wrist. "Here, this is for you. It keeps you safe. It also...it also means that you are tied to me."

When she said the latter sentence, her voice was as soft as a mosquito's hum and her face turned red.

Song Chengrui was stunned for a moment, and then a huge surprise flashed in his eyes.

He took the bracelet carefully and immediately put it on his left wrist. It was the perfect size.

He shook his wrist and smiled brightly, "Yeah, it's tied up. You can't run away."

The two smiled at each other, and the air was filled with the sour smell of love.

"By the way, let's buy train tickets for the same time." Song Chengrui said, "My parents will send me off that day, so why don't you come with me to the station?"

"Ah? But..."

"This way I can help you carry your luggage on the way, which is more convenient." Song Chengrui planned everything in an orderly manner.

Xu Zhiyi felt so warm inside. He always arranged everything before she thought of it.

"Will it be too much trouble for you?"

"What's the trouble?" Song Chengrui raised an eyebrow. "What's the use of a boyfriend?"

He said the word "boyfriend" naturally, and Xu Zhiyi's heart skipped a beat again.

She smiled and nodded vigorously: "Okay."

In the end, Xu Wangping insisted on sending Xu Zhiyi to the station, but Song Chengrui had already entered the waiting hall early.

At the station entrance, Xu Wangping looked at his daughter, who had grown into a beautiful young lady. His eyes welled up, and he said, "Call Dad when you get there. Take care of yourself. If you don't have enough money, tell him."

"I know, Dad. You too, take care of yourself." Xu Zhiyi also felt a lump in his throat and hugged his father.

"Your mother is working overtime today, otherwise she would have come too."

Xu Zhiyi wiped her tears and nodded, "I know. You should also tell Mom that I can take good care of myself. You all should take care of your health, eat well, and call me if you have any problems."

"I know. When you go out, remember to keep your phone and money safe so they don't get stolen."

"I see. I'll go in first."

"Well, everything went well."

She dragged her suitcase and carried a backpack, looking back every few steps as she passed through security.

When I walked into the waiting hall, I saw Song Chengrui waiting there.

He was wearing a simple white T-shirt and blue jeans today, looking fresh and upright, and particularly conspicuous in the bustling crowd.

He came over and naturally took the heaviest suitcase and backpack from her hands.

Xu Wangping was still looking outside the security checkpoint. When he saw this scene, he was stunned for a moment, then sighed with a complicated look in his eyes. In the end, he said nothing, just waved to Xu Zhiyi from a distance, turned and left.

Xu Zhiyi was a little nervous, but when she saw Song Chengrui's calmness, she felt relieved.

"Uncle saw it?" Song Chengrui asked in a low voice.

"Yeah." Xu Zhiyi nodded.

"Don't worry," Song Chengrui squeezed her hand and quickly let go, "I'll take care of everything."

I got on the train and found a seat and settled down.

The train started slowly, and the familiar city receded outside the window, becoming smaller and smaller.

Xu Zhiyi looked out the window, feeling a mixture of emotions.

Her high school days were completely over.
