Chapter 15 Changes

Gong Jiuqian could never have imagined that after dying at Lu Xiaofeng's hands, he would be able to open his eyes again, and what appeared before him was the familiar Taiping Prince's Mansion.

That day, he walked barefoot into the courtyard. The water was flowing gently and the green bamboo was swaying. He looked at the familiar scene and suddenly smiled silently.

Gong Jiu has never believed in gods and ghosts. If there is a spirit in heaven, why are there still so many injustices in this world?

The gods are always high above, pitying the masses but never offering a helping hand.

Zhuangzi dreamt he was a butterfly, or perhaps the butterfly dreamt he was Zhuangzi?

If this is truly a dream, it is a dream that is utterly uninteresting.

Gong Jiu was very receptive; after laughing enough, he accepted the fact that he had died and come back to life, even though it was absurd, it was indeed true. Meanwhile, Lu Xiaofeng—his enemy—was engaged in a battle of wits and courage with Huo Xiu.

Everything proceeded as I remembered, except for the one variable: Mu Jiangchuan, who should have died long ago.

Gong Jiu had some connections with Wuyan Pavilion. He even knew that Mu Rufeng was the Pavilion Master of Wuyan Pavilion and that Mu Rufeng had personally killed his brother. However, after he was resurrected, Mu Jiangchuan, who should have died, had a connection with Lu Xiaofeng and Hua Manlou and survived.

Gong Jiu narrowed his eyes slightly as he looked at the composed young man in front of him.

"You are clearly Mu Jiangchuan, why do you call yourself Yan Liang?"

Yan Liang hadn't expected that before he could even sit down properly or eat a single bite, he would hear the man in white ask such a question.

"Who doesn't have an alias when they're out in the world?" Yan Liang stared at his injured arm in thought, then subconsciously tried to fool him, "You need a stage name to debut. By the way, you actually know me."

Gong Jiu ignored the parts he couldn't understand and simply asked, "Is Mu Rufeng's matter related to you?"

Yan Liang looked up at him and said slowly, "You know him? Yes, he's related to me."

Gong Jiu suddenly smiled and said, "You're quite ruthless."

Yan Liang remained silent; he couldn't understand what this person was trying to do.

"I am Gong Jiu." The man in white finally introduced himself, but did not continue the previous conversation, instead asking about something else.

"Have you seen Ye Gucheng?" Gong Jiu asked.

"No." Yan Liang scrutinized the white-clad man of unknown origin, feeling puzzled and secretly becoming wary. "Why do you ask me that?"

"I thought you had already seen him... but it turns out you haven't?" Gong Jiu seemed to be muttering to himself. He looked into the distance and could vaguely see a dilapidated temple sitting in the wilderness. A playful smile appeared on Gong Jiu's face as he said to Yan Liang, "At the top of the Forbidden City, on the night of the full moon, a sword came from the west, a celestial being descended from the heavens."

Purple Gold...the summit of the Forbidden City?

Yan Liang looked bewildered.

Gong Jiu smiled slightly, a smile that added a touch of eeriness to Yan Liang's expression, while Yan Liang's hands and feet turned ice-cold.

"Ah, I'm not dressed warmly enough, I'm so cold—" the young man suddenly said, "Could you please have a bowl of hot soup with me?"

Gong Jiu: "..."

He waved for someone to bring him a bowl of hot soup, his face cold and expressionless.

Yan Liang was completely unaware of what was going on, and simply smiled and said, "Thank you so much. Is this restaurant yours too?"

"So what if it is?"

"The chef's skills are quite good." Yan Liang smiled at Gong Jiu's icy face. "You called me up here this time, does that mean you've given me permission to go to that restaurant later?"

"No." Gong Jiu said expressionlessly.

Yan Liang: "...Then why did you call me up here?"

Gong Jiu couldn't say for sure why he called this person up. He knew the ins and outs of Ye Gucheng's assistance to the Southern King in his rebellion, and he remembered all the people who died in this incident. However, after Yan Liang had dealings with those people, they were all safe and sound.

For example, the three disciples of the Tang Clan, and the wise and insightful Master Gui Sun.

Gong Jiu suspected that Yan Liang was a person who had been resurrected in another's body. Even if he was not the original Mu Jiangchuan, he was very likely someone else who knew about that matter.

He scrutinized Yan Liang's expression. The other man appeared calm, but seemed weaker than when they last met, suggesting he had reached his limit.

"If you want to find Ye Gucheng, you might as well go to an ancient temple on the outskirts of the city and find a monk named Shengtong."

Gong Jiu lowered her eyes, avoiding Yan Liang's expression, and said in a flat tone, "Since you've already disrupted someone else's plans, why not go all the way?"

Yan Liang didn't ask him any questions like "why," that would be too silly. He quickly thanked him, leaned back in his chair, looked at Gong Jiu, and smiled slightly: "It's too far to walk there. Could I get a ride?"

Gong Jiu: "..."

He had never seen such a shameless and insolent person.

"This is really strange!" Tang Tianyi's words were firm and resolute. The young man slammed his hand on the table, making a loud "bang." "Now that he has shown himself, why is he hiding?"

Tang Tianrong, quick as a flash, picked up the bowl before his brother could slam his hand on the table, tilted his head back, and drank the last sip of tea. He said thoughtfully, "Indeed strange. His appearance during the day was also very strange..."

Tang Tianzong's heart stirred, and he was about to express his thoughts when he saw a carriage gradually approaching.

The carriage itself wasn't strange; what was strange was the person sitting in front of it.

Yan Liangchao, sitting in the teahouse, waved his other, undamaged arm and grinned in a way that was incredibly irritating: "Want to come up?"

Tang Tianzong and his two brothers had been wandering around the capital for almost a day without even catching a glimpse of Ye Gucheng. Now that night had fallen, the three were preparing to head home when they unexpectedly encountered Yan Liang, who should have been resting. Yan Liang brought good news.

“Master Gong Jiu inside knows where Ye Gucheng is,” Yan Liang explained to the three in a low voice.

Tang Tianyi: "He is such a good person."

Tang Tianzong: "Gong Jiu? Your friend?"

Tang Tianrong: "...I'm naturally very happy to know Ye Gucheng's whereabouts, but don't you all think it's too crowded?"

The four of them squeezed together in front of the carriage with difficulty. Tang Tianrong and Tang Tianzong tried their best to avoid touching the two sick people. Someone inside the carriage hummed softly, but Yan Liangquan pretended not to hear it and answered Tang Tianzong's question with a smile: "Judging from our current situation, he is certainly not my friend."

"Just as Tang Tianrong said, Gong Jiu is a good person."

Yan Liang was spouting nonsense with a straight face when another cold snort came from the carriage behind him. Tang Tianzong felt strange, glanced at his brother and Yan Liang, then turned and lifted the curtain, saying to the people inside, "May I ask if my brother and his friend can come in? They are injured..."

Tang Tianzong's words came to an abrupt halt when he saw the people in the carriage. He looked at them, then turned to meet Yan Liang's gaze. Finally, he lowered the curtain and remained silent.

Yan Liang patted his shoulder and smiled kindly.

"...Where did you meet him? Did you go to that restaurant again?" Tang Tianzong couldn't help but ask.

"Fate brings us together from a thousand miles away—" Yan Liang answered irrelevantly, deliberately dragging out the tone to sound very unserious, "My meeting with Brother Gong Jiu is naturally due to the destiny between us."

Now not only was Tang Tianzong speechless, but the three people listening in were also rendered speechless.

"...What disgusting things are you saying!" Tang Tianzong shuddered. "Don't spout nonsense."

Yan Liang looked completely innocent: "I'm not making this up, this is the truth."

Before Tang Tianzong could speak, someone inside the carriage spoke in a cold tone: "Shut up."

Tang Tianzong: "...!!"

He glared at Yan Liang, gritting his teeth: Why did you choose such an annoying guy?!

Yan Liang gazed into the distance: "Hehehehehe."

Tang Tianzong: "..."

As a friend, Yan Liang was extremely pleasant to be around, but sometimes Tang Tianzong wanted to crack open his head to see what was inside—

This guy is always unpredictable, sometimes even making you want to retaliate.

If Lu Xiaofeng knew Tang Tianzong's idea, he would probably wholeheartedly agree.

He was also very curious about what was going on in Yan Liang's head.

After parting ways with Yan Liang, Lu Xiaofeng went to Li Yanbei's house for dinner.

Besides Li Yanbei and his lover, Thirteenth Aunt, there was also Ouyang Qing.

Everything was going smoothly and harmoniously, and Lu Xiaofeng relaxed a little. However, Ouyang Qing in the kitchen was attacked with a poisonous snake. Lu Xiaofeng chased after her and found Gongsun Da Niang strangled to death.

All signs indicated that undercurrents were brewing in the capital, which made Lu Xiaofeng very worried.

Ouyang Qing fell into a coma due to poisoning, but the poison was too potent and could only suppress the symptoms temporarily. In order to save Ouyang Qing, Lu Xiaofeng decided to continue searching for Ye Gucheng.

Since Ye Gucheng has the ability to cure Tang Clan's poison, he must have a way to cure this poison as well.

Lu Xiaofeng encountered Sheng Tong, Huo Tianqing's enemy. In order to repay a debt of gratitude, Sheng Tong delivered news of Ye Gucheng.

Even though he didn't quite believe that Ye Gucheng, the city lord of Baiyun City, would be confined to a dilapidated temple and even deliberately conceal his injuries, Lu Xiaofeng still decided to take a look.

He had only met Ye Gucheng a few times, but it felt like they had known each other for a long time. Lu Xiaofeng believed that Ye Gucheng shared the same thoughts as him: a friend was injured, and it was only right and proper for him to visit him.

The temple could only be described as "dilapidated," with drafts coming from all sides, making it hard to believe that this was Ye Gucheng's lodging.

Sheng Tong led Lu Xiaofeng to the temple, but his expression suddenly changed when he saw the carriage at the gate.

Lu Xiaofeng's heart tightened, and he strode forward. The carriage had just stopped when a person jumped down from it. The person staggered a few steps because of the sudden movement. Lu Xiaofeng looked at the familiar silhouette and remained silent.

The man looked up, saw him, and waved with delight: "Oh. Lu Xiaofeng?"

Lu Xiaofeng: "..."

Why is it always you?

Author's Note: I'm back again, hahaha!

Do you still remember this silly post?

Actually, this article is also known as "On the Contagious Nature of Silly People".

I just wrote it to express happiness.

Hmm, I haven't updated for so many days and I've lost a few favorites, but thank you to all the little angels who haven't unsubscribed—muanuamua——

It's more fun if Gong Jiu is reborn.
