Chapter 68 Even a Clear Mirror Is Not a Platform (Part Seventeen)

Although their conversation wasn't exactly sharp and confrontational, the atmosphere was already subtly tense as they exchanged words.

The sailors sensed the subtle tension and kept their distance from the moment the conversation began.

Yan Liang thought to himself that Yuan Suiyun was indeed good at managing his subordinates—even Wuhua listened to him.

Wu Hua, who actually just didn't want to break ties with Yuan Suiyun, also left after Yuan Suiyun took his leave.

Chu Liuxiang and Yan Liang stared at the departing figures for a while before turning their gaze away once they were out of sight.

Chu Liuxiang held the red fruit in his hand. He had initially suspected that it was information given to him by Yan Liang, but since Yan Liang had given it to Tian Shi and Yuan Suiyun in succession, perhaps it was not what he thought.

He now understood that Yan Liang's situation was precarious, but he didn't understand why the other party had fallen to such a state. He also didn't quite understand why Yuan Suiyun had done what he did.

Asking the question directly is clearly not a good idea.

Chu Liuxiang said, "I forgot to ask you, how is Young Master Li?"

Yan Liang said, "I took him home, and he seems to be doing well."

Physical injuries are easier to treat than mental illnesses.

Chu Liuxiang understood this principle, sighed softly in his heart, and did not ask any further questions.

The two strolled side by side on the boat. Yan Liang's words were meant for Yuan Suiyun and Wuhua to hear. Yuan Suiyun had eyes and ears everywhere on the boat, and even if the two weren't there, Yan Liang couldn't reveal everything openly; he could only offer subtle hints.

He believed that Chu Liuxiang had seen through his hint.

Yan Liang and Chu Liuxiang strolled around for a while and then ran into Hu Tiehua and Jin Lingzhi, who were arguing noisily as they approached. Hu Tiehua saw them and hurried over, circling around Jin Lingzhi and arguing back and forth.

Yan Liang stood lazily to the side, watching the show. The ship was quiet and deserted. Although Yan Liang was not restricted in his movements, if he wanted to strike up a conversation, very few people would respond to him.

Once Chu Liuxiang and his six companions boarded the ship, the atmosphere became much livelier. Yuan Suiyun also put on his friendly smile, acting as if he were a truly hospitable host.

After lunch, the sailors rested for half an hour.

Having nothing better to do, Zhang San got a fishing net from them, boarded a small boat, and fished by the side of the boat.

Yan Liang was also free, so he asked the sailors for a fishing rod and some bait, and then happily followed them off the small boat.

Zhang San didn't know him very well, but seeing that he knew Chu Liuxiang and Hu Tiehua, he didn't comment on Zhang San's overly familiar behavior, and even welcomed it.

Until he caught a glimpse of Yan Liang's posture when he cast the hook.

Zhang San yelled, "Have you ever fished before?!"

Yan Liang shook his head honestly and said, "I've fished before."

Zhang San was a skilled fisherman and also had excellent grilling techniques. When he saw Yan Liang's clumsy way of casting the hook, he couldn't help but correct him. Yan Liang humbly asked for advice, watched for a while, and when he cast the hook again, his posture was much more graceful.

Zhang San was extremely pleased; the two of them, one fishing and the other catching fish, actually seemed quite harmonious.

Chu Liuxiang looked at the two of them from above, a smile playing on his lips.

Yuan Suiyun could not see, but he could hear.

So his expression became even more fake.

Zhang San laid out his fishing net, yet he still had the leisure to chat with Yan Liang.

"After we catch the fish, you can try my cooking."

Yan Liang stared at the water, thinking of the various ways he had prepared fish before, and nodded, "Okay."

Unfortunately, Zhang San failed to catch any fish, but instead caught four naked women.

Yan Liang: "..."

He felt he should blush, but looking at the four girls' bodies, he felt nothing.

The four girls were breathing weakly and were on the verge of death. Yuan Suiyun then mentioned that there was a Lady Lan on the ship, a renowned physician from Jiangzuo. If they pleaded with her, perhaps she could save the four girls.

The bugging device contained no information about this matter, which puzzled Yan Liang. He always felt that this was Yuan Suiyun's conspiracy.

He followed the others to Madam Lan's room.

Hu Tiehua was astonished to see Gao Yanan in the room, and Chu Liuxiang was also surprised.

They didn't run into Gao Yanan when they boarded the ship last night, and were quite shocked to unexpectedly meet her on this ship.

Yan Liang was not surprised; he had already figured out the identities of everyone on the ship and watched from the side without changing his expression.

Madam Lan did not allow men to watch her rescue, and no matter how shocked Hu Tiehua was, he had no choice but to obediently step aside.

Chu Liuxiang sighed.

He already had many things he didn't understand, and the waters he was wading through were getting deeper and deeper.

Yan Liang patted his shoulder solemnly, looking like an older brother who had been through a lot.

In reality, these two are evenly matched, neither wanting to outdo the other in their ability to cause trouble.

But what happened next was something no one could have predicted. The four girls came to attack Master Kumei, and Master Kumei took their lives before he died.

In her anxiety and anger, Gao Yanan attempted to attack Yuan Suiyun, but Yuan Suiyun easily deflected her attack with a single move, Flowing Cloud Flying Sleeve.

Yan Liang had many feelings.

Hua Manlou also knows the move "Flowing Clouds and Flying Sleeves," and the two of them have a similar posture and expression when performing the move—calm and elegant, without a trace of worldliness.

Yuan Suiyun noticed his gaze and turned her head slightly, but had to deal with him because of Hu Tiehua's questioning.

Yan Liang was touched by something that had been on his mind, and his feelings were complicated.

Hearing Yuan Suiyun's explanation only made him more disgusted, and he left without looking back.

Yuan Suiyun said that he had heard that there were pearl divers in Hainan and Dongying, who trained their ability to hold their breath underwater from a young age. Due to the high pressure in the water, they also developed extraordinary strength.

Yan Liang thought to himself, "You think you know so much?"

Why would they come to this ship to assassinate Master Kumei on this vast ocean? Of course, someone arranged it, and who else could it be but Yuan Suiyun?

Even without calculating, Yan Liang could guess that this was a scheme devised by Yuan Suiyun. Not to mention, after calculating, he discovered that Master Kumei had only faked his death.

As the one who orchestrated the conspiracy, Yuan Suiyun remained unfazed and indifferent while observing, and even calmly participated in the conversation.

Even if Chu Liuxiang wanted to suspect him, he couldn't find anything suspicious.

Yan Liang left the cabin and wandered aimlessly on the deck.

Until he saw Wuhua at the side of the ship.

Wuhua leaned against the gunwale, dressed in black, her beautiful hair fluttering in the wind.

He had to admit that even though Wu Hua now had an ordinary face, it couldn't hide his refined and elegant demeanor.

Wu Hua seemed to be waiting for him, and Yan Liang lazily stood beside him.

"Handsome, were you waiting for me?"

Wu Hua: "..."

He ignored Yan Liang's strange way of addressing him and asked, "What did you and Chu Liuxiang talk about?"

Yan Liang said lazily, "Didn't you and Yuan Suiyun both hear it? Now you're asking... Do you suspect I'm not keeping my promise?"

Subtly revealing information is not considered a breach of trust; the fact that Chu Liuxiang could guess it is entirely due to his skill.

Wu Hua remained noncommittal, chuckled softly, and said, "Do you really think I didn't understand anything? Yuan Suiyun is very perceptive; he must have realized you were hinting at Chu Liuxiang back then."

Taking advantage of the fact that most people were near Master Kumei's cabin and there was no one on the deck, he openly talked to Yan Liang.

Yan Liang calmly replied, "What did I say? Without evidence, please don't make things up."

Wu Hua didn't respond, which he himself found strange.

They've clearly fallen out, yet they can still talk so peacefully here.

Wu Hua believed he could see through people's hearts, but others couldn't see through him; however, he thought Yan Liang was someone he could see through at a glance, but Yan Liang repeatedly surprised him.

Yan Liang didn't care why Wu Hua was standing there or whether she was waiting for him intentionally. He glanced at the sky, said goodbye, and went back to his room.

He was now focused on figuring out Yuan Suiyun's plan—and once he figured it out, he would naturally do as he had told Chu Liuxiang before, first giving Yuan Suiyun a good beating.

Yuan Suiyun gives off a very contradictory feeling. Even though Yan Liang has already distinguished him from Hua Manlou, the other party will still inadvertently show similarities.

Although, on the whole, the one who deserved to be beaten was more often the one who deserved it.

Master Kumei's funeral was held that afternoon; it was a water burial.

The sky was dark and gloomy, as if it were about to rain. After silently attending the funeral, everyone returned to their rooms after dinner.

After this incident, no one was in the mood for eating, drinking, or having fun.

Yan Liang hadn't shown up yet, which worried Chu Liuxiang. After finishing his meal, he wanted to go check on Yan Liang. Hu Tiehua was anxious because of Gao Yanan and Master Kumei, but he was also wondering if something had happened to Yan Liang, so he followed him to Yan Liang's door.

Chu Liuxiang knocked on the door, and there was a rustling sound inside. As soon as he finished knocking, the soft sounds inside disappeared.

"who?"

Yan Liang's voice sounded very weak and extremely hoarse.

"It's me, and Xiao Hu too."

Chu Liuxiang said loudly.

They waited outside the door for a while before Yan Liang slowly opened it.

Hu Tiehua said, "Why did you open the door so late..."

After seeing Yan Liang's current situation, he was speechless.

Yan Liang took off his wig, his forehead was covered in sweat, his lips were pale, and his face was bloodless.

Behind him, in the room, on the table sat a jar of wine and a bowl. The room smelled of wine.

Chu Liuxiang asked worriedly, "How are you feeling?"

Yan Liang touched his bald head, feeling a little guilty, since he was perfectly fine but people were worried about him.

But to make the performance more convincing, Yan Liang said in a hoarse voice, "It's nothing... I caught a chill from the wind during the day."

He sneezed loudly as soon as he finished speaking.

Yan Liang: ...He actually caught a cold?

The atmosphere became awkward for a moment.

Hu Tiehua was relieved and patted Yan Liang on the shoulder, saying, "You caught a cold from just a breeze; your body is too weak."

Yan Liang smiled and said, "If Xiao Hu is worried about me, he can just say so directly. There's no need to beat around the bush like this."

Hu Tiehua couldn't help but laugh and said, "Dream on. Since you have time to drink, you must not be seriously ill. Do you need my concern?"

Chu Liuxiang smiled to the side.

Yan Liang said, "Of course we're lacking."

Chu Liuxiang and Hu Tiehua were relieved to see that Yan Liang was only slightly chilled. They chatted with Yan Liang for a few more minutes before turning and leaving.

Yan Liang leaned against the door and sighed deeply.

He won't arrive at Bat Island until tomorrow, so he has to perform again... Sweating under the covers is no pleasant experience.
