Chapter Eleven: Disbelief
“Father, I really saw Senior Brother! She must be Senior Brother.” Yue Lingshan said happily to Yue Buqun, “Senior Brother’s appearance is not much different from back then. She looks like an enlarged version of her original appearance, with sharper features, but she really looks the same as before.”
Before her eldest brother appeared, she was the only child her age in the entire Huashan Sect. Therefore, Yue Lingshan liked her eldest brother very much. Although he didn't play with her like her second brother, he was always very kind to her. Whether it was accompanying her in reading and writing or practicing sword techniques, he was more patient than her second brother.
After her senior brother disappeared, Yue Lingshan cried several times. Now, seeing that familiar face again, her heart was filled with joy. It's wonderful that her senior brother is alive and well, and his martial arts skills are still very high. This is truly wonderful.
After Yue Lingshan finished speaking happily, she looked up and found that Yue Buqun's expression did not seem happy. "Father?"
"Shan'er." Yue Buqun reached out and patted Yue Lingshan's shoulder. "You must understand that the person in the entire Huashan Sect who most wants your senior brother to return is your father."
"I know, daughter," Yue Lingshan nodded. But at that moment, for some reason, she thought of her mother, who kept the small wooden sword her eldest brother used for practice. Actually, her mother missed her eldest brother very much too. She thought to herself quietly.
“But she’s not your senior brother,” Yue Buqun said.
"Huh?" Yue Lingshan looked at Yue Buqun in surprise.
Yue Buqun's expression was cold and stern. "Your senior brother has been missing for many years. If possible, I would also like him to be alive. But you and I both know that the possibility is extremely low. At this critical juncture, someone suddenly appears who looks just like Hao'er. Do you think that's believable?"
Yue Lingshan wanted to say it was credible, "That face is the best proof." But looking at the expression on Yue Buqun's face, she couldn't bring herself to say it.
"It seems the Huashan Sect is still a thorn in their side." Yue Buqun's expression grew increasingly cold, as if he were targeting someone who wanted to eliminate the Huashan Sect. "They definitely want to use Hao'er to plant a thorn in our midst, so they can wipe us out one day. Shan'er, you must be careful about this matter and not be deceived."
Yue Lingshan wanted to say that their Huashan Sect really wasn't good enough for those major sects; they weren't what they used to be, and no one would keep an eye on them forever. But she knew very well that if she dared to say that, her father would definitely be angry.
So she didn't speak, but simply nodded. "I understand, Father." She thought to herself that her father was simply too wary, which was why he didn't believe her or that her eldest brother was truly alive. But she would prove that person really was her eldest brother, and then her father would accept it, and her mother would be happy.
Yue Lingshan, seemingly obedient and well-behaved, was secretly plotting her own schemes. Yue Buqun, however, assumed that Yue Lingshan understood his words and would behave properly, so he was relieved.
No one knew better than Yue Buqun whether that person was Linghu Hao or not. He was certain that the person was definitely not Linghu Hao, not because of the conspiracy theories he had discussed with Yue Lingshan, nor because he couldn't accept his disciple wearing women's clothing.
It was because no one in the world knew better than him whether Linghu Hao was alive or dead, after all, it was him back then... Yue Buqun stopped thinking about what happened back then, "I saw that the Qingcheng Sect was still angry and unwilling when they left just now, and it is hard to guarantee that they will not want to make things difficult for that silly boy. Your third senior brother should stay in this teahouse to be on the safe side, and my daughter and I will go into the city to see how things have changed."
Yue Lingshan nodded quickly, "Okay, I'll listen to Father." That's great! She had just seen that her senior brother had gone into the city. Now that she was going into the city too, she might be able to find him. If that happened, things would be much easier in the future.
"Achoo—!" Linghao, who was riding a cloud and preparing to enter the city, sneezed. "Strange, could it be that someone is talking about me?" Her first thought was of that young master Mingyue, but she felt it was unlikely. After all, she had been far, far away from where they met. He couldn't possibly be chasing after her or thinking about her, could he?
They were just strangers who met by chance, and there was no life-or-death bond between them. He shouldn't be so persistent. Hmm, her sneeze was probably just from catching a chill. Ling looked towards the city gate ahead and decided to find a place to stay.
She needed to think about what to do next, since she had come to fight Linghu Chong, but now that Linghu Chong wasn't here, things were getting a little complicated.
Ling Hao, who had completely forgotten about Gongzi Mingyue, didn't know that some people are just very persistent about something and won't give up easily.
After Linghao entered the city, a carriage appeared on the official road. This carriage was quite imposing, with at least twenty horses escorting it. Yue Lingshan's mouth dropped open when she saw the passing carriage. She had never seen anything like it before. Who was this person? Could it be some young master from a prominent family?
"Cough cough cough..."
Yue Lingshan heard a very soft cough coming from inside the carriage. For some reason, she found the cough quite pleasant. Hmm? Was she so preoccupied with her senior brother's affairs that she was becoming somewhat oblivious?
How could that cough sound pleasant? It must be her imagination.
"Young master," one of the men on horseback guarding the carriage spoke, "Should we..."
"No need," a clear voice came from inside the carriage. "Go straight into the city."
"Yes, young master."
The person sitting in the carriage was none other than Young Master Mingyue, who had followed Ling Hao's trail all the way to Fuzhou. No, that's not right, he only caught up with Ling Hao in the latter half of the journey.
To shake him off, Ling Hao initially took a detour, which is why she only arrived in Fuzhou at this point. However, Gongzi Mingyue knew her destination from the beginning, allowing him to head straight for Fuzhou. His men discovered Ling Hao's trail along the way, and he pursued her relentlessly.
This time, after much painful reflection, Gongzi Mingyue abandoned his previous pitiful and helpless demeanor and instead put on a show of grandeur. He thought to himself, perhaps this would make Ling Hao look at him in a new light?
She was just ahead, and he would soon be able to see her again. Thinking of this, Gongzi Mingyue's eyes were filled with longing, and a gentle smile bloomed on his face. He was like a lotus flower in the water, charming and touching.
