Chapter Twenty-Three: Bayberry Drink

Ling Hao looked at Dongfang Bubai's face as he lowered his veil, blinked, and continued to ask, "Senior, are you really not going to try it? I think these lychees must be delicious." She could smell the aroma of lychees even before she held them in her hand, so they must be very tasty!

She was going to feed it to Dongfang Bubai first, so why was he still hesitating? Ling Hao was puzzled.

Dongfang Bubai had anticipated Ling Hao's possible reactions, whether it was surprise, disgust, or something else entirely. But he hadn't expected her to react this way; she seemed oblivious, preoccupied only with the few lychees in her hand.

Thinking about it this way, Dongfang Bubai got a little angry and said, "Didn't you see what I look like?"

"Huh?" Linghao looked a little confused. "I saw it, so what?"

"Don't you have any ideas?" Dongfang Bubai asked again.

Ling Hao carefully examined Dongfang Bubai's face. It was a face covered in who knows how much rouge and powder. He didn't know if the person who did it was too clumsy or what, but it was all smeared here and there and looked quite strange no matter how you looked at it.

After she finished looking at it, she asked, "Senior, are you not very good at drawing?"

Dongfang Bubai thought he was prepared, but he was still confused by Ling Hao's words. "Why are you asking this?"

“Senior, look at the makeup you’ve done to yourself. It’s obvious you’re not very good at drawing.” Ling Hao’s expression couldn’t be more serious. “I have a suggestion. If you don’t mind, Senior, find someone to learn how to draw or how to do makeup.”

She couldn't even see Dongfang Bubai's true appearance anymore; the makeup was truly awful. Ling Hao was certain that with this level of makeup, even a celestial being couldn't do anything about it.

Dongfang Bubai felt a complex mix of emotions, which he couldn't quite describe. He asked, "Don't you think it's strange for a man to wear makeup on his face?"

"Why do you find it strange?" Ling chuckled and peeled a lychee for herself. "Since ancient times, countless men have worn makeup and adorned themselves with flowers and powder. What's so strange about that? Senior, you're just really bad at painting and really need to learn."

After saying that, she popped the lychee into her mouth, and her eyes crinkled into a smile. It was delicious; she knew the lychees she'd chosen couldn't be bad.

Dongfang Bubai was taken aback at first, then laughed, "But some people call me an old monster who is neither male nor female."

“Then you can just curse back, senior,” Linghao continued eating lychees, “like wishing the other person infertility and a house full of children.”

"Alright." Dongfang Bubai's brows relaxed, as if he had figured something out, or as if it was simply how things should be. He reached for some lychees. "You seem to be quite good at swearing. Why don't you teach me?"

"Huh? Me?" Ling Hao clutched the last lychee in her hand, looking bewildered. "Senior, you're joking. I'm always kind to others and I don't swear." Even if I were, I couldn't admit it.

Dongfang Bubai pointed his finger at the air and said, "Very cunning."

Linghao neither admitted nor refuted it, but simply turned and went out the window to pick more lychees. She used her light-footed skills to move up and down the lychee trees, picking only the ones that looked delicious.

Following Ling Hao's example, Dongfang Bubai sat by the window, watching her lively figure and the bright sunshine outside, and couldn't help but feel that today was truly a good day.

"Are you here to pick lychees too?" Ling Hao asked, peeking out from among the branches as she finished picking the lychees and was about to return to her private room.

The woman seemed surprised that Linghao would discover her. She paused for a moment, then, upon hearing her question, didn't know how to answer.

Ling laughed and tossed one of the lychees from his arms to her, saying, "The shopkeeper here takes very good care of the lychee trees. These lychees are really delicious, so I'm just offering them to him."

The woman accepted the lychee, looked up at her and smiled, "Thank you for the poem, young lady."

"No need, no need," Ling Hao waved her hand. "You should thank the shopkeeper." With that, she nimbly turned over and returned to the private room.

The woman—who was also known as Shici—smiled as she looked at Linghao's voice. It's no wonder that someone like the Second Young Master would be attracted to this girl; her bright and radiant presence was truly captivating to someone like him.

She thought she had already achieved some success in concealing her abilities, but she hadn't expected Ling Hao to notice her so easily. Shi Ci thought to herself that she would have to change her approach in the future to avoid making Ling Hao dislike her. With that thought, she left, holding the lychee.

No need to serve the eldest and second young masters, and now there are sweet lychees to eat, today is truly a day to be cherished.

"Today is truly my special day!" Linghao sat at the table, her heart filled with emotion. "Senior, please try this bayberry drink, it's so delicious!" She held a bowl of bayberry drink in her hands. The sunlight outside the window was even hotter. She held a bowl of iced drink in her hands, the red plums swaying gently in the white porcelain bowl, making everything seem wonderful.

Wow, the owner here really knows how to do business. Just from this bowl of bayberry drink, you can tell that this restaurant must be doing very well.

Upon hearing this, Dongfang Bubai also picked up the bayberry drink in front of him. He slowly took a sip and nodded, "Indeed, it's quite good."

"It's really good." Ling Hao felt she had to defend the reputation of bayberry drink. It tasted so good, sweet and sour without being cloying and refreshing. Taking a sip in this bright sunshine was simply wonderful.

Dongfang Bubai smiled and said, "If this were on Blackwood Cliff, this bayberry drink would be nothing special."

"Oh," Ling Hao replied. Regardless of what others said, she liked what she liked and wouldn't stop liking what she had just because there was something better. Therefore, she wasn't moved by what Dongfang Bubai said.

Dongfang Bubai then asked, "Would you like to become my disciple?"

"Huh?" Linghao, who had been diligently sipping his bayberry drink, suddenly looked up, somewhat dumbfounded, at Dongfang Bubai. Had he just said something strange?

"If you become my disciple, you can take whatever you want from the entire Blackwood Cliff. This bayberry drink is just one of them." Dongfang Bubai's casual words were full of temptation. "I don't ask you to sever your master-disciple relationship with Feng Qingyang. It's just having another master. How about it?"

Linghao was genuinely bewildered. How did things escalate to this point so quickly? If she remembered correctly, they had just gotten into a fight not long ago, and although they were now sitting down to eat, their relationship didn't seem to be that great.

So, did Dongfang Bubai know what he was saying?
