Chapter 24 Don't Ask Me...
Chapter Twenty-Four: Don't Ask Me
Seeing Ling Hao's bewildered expression, Dongfang Bubai smiled and said, "You can think about it carefully."
Ling Hao really did think about it seriously, but she did so while eating and drinking. When the dishes on the table were almost gone, she said, "Actually, it's better not to ask me about this. Ask my master instead. I'm his disciple, so I'll definitely listen to him."
This is just another random, offhand remark. Linghao was never a well-behaved child; her little head was full of all sorts of whimsical ideas, and she wasn't shy about putting them into practice. Although, often, when adults caught her, her little bottom would suffer the consequences.
As a child, she was a mischievous and lively girl, and she didn't completely lose her playfulness as she grew up, even gaining a bit more of a chuunibyou (adolescent delusions of grandeur). After transmigrating, she became smaller, and her brain development also slowed down slightly. Although she was generally obedient, well…
Well, in short, raising disciples wasn't an easy task for Feng Qingyang. He kicked Ling Hao off the mountain, perhaps partly because his white hair was sprouting profusely from raising disciples; he was simply exhausted. In short, she wasn't exactly a well-behaved, obedient disciple, and Feng Qingyang wasn't exactly a loving, caring master either.
When these two, master and disciple, get together, it's easy for them to start fighting while talking. Linghao's martial arts skills are so strong, partly because she has been "beaten" for the past ten years or so.
Therefore, Ling Hao's current behavior of "I listen to my master" is pure nonsense. If she were truly obedient, she wouldn't have declared herself Feng Qingyang's disciple beforehand. To put it bluntly, she simply doesn't want to be Dongfang Bubai's disciple on the side.
She certainly didn't have any feelings for Dongfang Bubai, but rather she felt troubled by the potential trouble the Sun Moon Cult might bring and didn't want to get involved. Linghao was destined to be a chivalrous hero; she couldn't be entangled in worldly affairs (aria).
In short, Linghao felt it was better to refuse.
Having spent years in the martial world and even managed to rise to the position of leader in the chaotic Sun Moon Sect, how could Dongfang Bubai not see through Ling Hao's little scheme? He found it somewhat amusing, yet also somewhat helpless, "Do you know what benefits you'll get from becoming my disciple? I don't care much about the Sun Moon Sect right now, but if you become my disciple, the entire Sun Moon Sect will have to obey your orders."
“But I don’t want to boss others around.” Ling Hao sat up straight, trying to look like a good child, but her bright eyes betrayed her true thoughts. “I like the wind and I like the rain, but I don’t like commanding the wind and rain.”
"Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown." Linghao didn't think she could bear so much; she just wanted to roam freely in this world. Besides, she would eventually go home, and the fewer burdens she carried, the better.
Dongfang Bubai was taken aback at first, then chuckled, "How could there be someone like you in this martial world?" She became more vibrant and more endearing.
At this moment, Dongfang Bubai felt a pang of jealousy towards Feng Qingyang. Having such a talented, witty, and free-spirited disciple must make life incredibly interesting. "Fine, if you don't like it, then don't have it."
He himself now felt that the Sun Moon Cult was a burden; he didn't like it anymore, so it was normal for others not to like it either. "Take this," he said, taking out a token from his person and tossing it in front of Ling Hao.
"What is this?" Ling Hao looked curiously at the object on the table. It appeared to be a token, entirely black, and seemed to be made of wood, but the token's color didn't quite match the wood. "Wait, could this be a Blackwood Token?"
Dongfang Bubai chuckled lightly, "Yes, I didn't expect you to know."
"This is all thanks to Boss Jin." Ling Hao leaned back and said, "I don't want this. This is the Blackwood Token." If she took it, it would definitely cause her some trouble.
Dongfang Bubai glanced at her sideways. "Take it. You don't need to bear any responsibility for the Sun Moon Sect. This token only allows you free access to Blackwood Cliff. Since you call me senior, shouldn't you take some time to visit me?"
Ling Hao looked up at Dongfang Bubai and smiled, "Senior, actually this Blackwood Token can also command the followers of the Sun Moon Sect, order the Ten Elders and other elders to obey, and mobilize the Seven-Colored Flag people, right?" Only free to enter and leave Blackwood Cliff? Lies.
Dongfang Bubai laughed again, "You seem to know quite a lot." What a clever child! Why didn't he meet a clever child back then?
Oh, he almost forgot. Back then, he and Ren Woxing were locked in a life-or-death struggle, focused solely on climbing the ranks, and had no interest in raising apprentices. But it didn't matter; he could steal apprentices raised by others, which was far more reliable than apprentices he might raise himself, whose quality was uncertain.
Yes, Dongfang Bubai was not one to give up easily. He didn't abandon his pursuit of this disciple just because of Ling Hao's few words. He thought to himself, "She may not be happy now, but she might be in the future."
"Hehehe, I do know a little bit about it." Ling Hao used the other end of his chopsticks to push the Blackwood Token back in front of Dongfang Bubai. "This thing is quite important, Senior, you should keep it."
Don't lose it, or she can't afford to pay for it.
Dongfang Bubai reached out and took back the Blackwood Token. "Alright."
The two fell silent, each holding a cup of drink and sipping slowly. The sunlight outside the window was perfect, and a gentle breeze stirred the heavy lychees on the tree, causing them to sway slightly and the leaves to rustle. Everything seemed to have quieted down.
"Father, are we leaving Fuzhou now?" On the other side, Yue Lingshan was quite unhappy, glancing back at the city of Fuzhou behind her every now and then. She hadn't even spoken to her senior brother yet, hadn't properly asked him what had happened over the years, and why he seemed to not remember her.
She still had many things to do, but Yue Buqun insisted on dragging her and her third senior brother (Lao Denuo) away, which made her somewhat unhappy.
Yue Buqun, however, remained cold and said, "Your second senior brother (Linghu Chong) is still waiting for us. Let's go." What was he going to do staying? Watch the Sword Sect disciples swagger around Fuzhou City? Hah, impossible.
The thought that Ling Hao was Feng Qingyang's disciple, who had overpowered all others and become famous in Fuzhou, soon to spread throughout the entire martial arts world, filled Yue Buqun with resentment. Why weren't all the Sword Sect members dead? Why didn't Feng Qingyang and Ling Hao die together?
Because of the Sword Sect, Yue Buqun firmly believed that regardless of whether Ling Hao was his eldest disciple or not, she deserved to die.
"Let's go." Yue Buqun glanced at Yue Lingshan and walked forward on his own. As he walked, something seemed to bulge out from the bundle he was carrying.
Laudenuo glanced at it, then lowered his head and continued on his way. He thought to himself, "That must be the Evil-Repelling Sword Manual."
