Chapter Thirty-Five: Discovered

In the morning, after Ling finished her breakfast, she went outside and saw Hong Qigong waving at her from across the street from the inn's entrance. So she turned around and went back inside.

Hong Qigong, who was waving halfway through, thought: "???"

What happened? Did I get rejected after just one night? That can't be.

Hong Qigong's doubts were quickly resolved when he saw Ling Hao come out of the inn again, carrying a bowl of hot soup and several other dishes.

Ling Hao placed the food in front of Hong Qigong, and seeing that the seat next to him wasn't dirty, she simply sat down as well. "The chef at this inn is quite skilled; I think these are the best dishes."

Hong Qigong ate without even lifting his head, "Mmm, not bad, not bad at all." This was his favorite food, and Ling Hao had really hit the spot. After finishing, he casually tucked the bowl into his coat, met Ling Hao's gaze, and said, "Didn't you buy it?"

Ling Hao looked up and said, "Seventh Master, I feel I can't get too close to you. You can see right through me. This is not good, not good."

Hong Qigong immediately laughed, "I didn't see through you, I just guessed." She was clearly young, but she could easily put herself in other people's shoes. So, her concern that the innkeeper might buy the bowls and chopsticks because he looked down on a beggar was something that was easy to understand, wasn't it?

"Alright." Ling Hao thought to herself, "Isn't this considered seeing through people?" However, this skill was still difficult for her. Her biggest reliance now was her swordsmanship and her understanding of these people.

Hong Qigong's gaze was fixed ahead, seemingly observing the people coming and going, but only he knew what he was really looking at. "Little girl, do you know you've been being watched?"

"What?" Ling Hao's face showed a moment of surprise, but she quickly concealed it. "Impossible, I didn't notice at all." She was quite confident in her martial arts skills, so she could quickly detect who was following her.

For example, whether it was Yang Xiao or Hong Qigong, she noticed them when they appeared behind her.

“Those people follow you from a great distance, so most people wouldn’t notice them,” Hong Qigong said. “Moreover, the people following you change every time, and some of them only appear once or twice, so it’s normal that you don’t notice them.” He often led the Beggars’ Sect to the north to fight against the barbarians, and he had experienced quite a few things, both overt and covert, which is why he was able to discover some clues.

Once he grasped this tiny clue, Hong Qigong was able to investigate further. Sure enough, he discovered something amiss.

“I suspect it might be some kind of organization; it doesn’t seem like something a hastily assembled group could do.” Hong Qigong frowned and glanced at Ling Hao. “Who exactly did you offend? How did you end up being followed by such a secretive person?”

If he remembered correctly, this young girl hadn't been traveling the martial arts world for very long. She'd only truly made a name for herself in Fuzhou City, and that was still a short time. What had she done to get involved with such a dangerous organization?

Upon hearing Hong Qigong's description, for some reason, the first image that came to Ling Hao's mind was that of Gongzi Mingyue. He was Gongzi Yu's younger brother, so perhaps he could use some of Gongzi Yu's subordinates. If he were Gongzi Yu's man, then it wouldn't be surprising.

Linghao still felt a little unreal about completely dumping Gongzi Mingyue; she always felt he wasn't the type to give up easily. But it was true, he never appeared again after she dumped him.

Linghao initially found it strange, but when she considered the context, it suddenly made perfect sense.

Ling Hao said, "It's not that I offended anyone. At most, he thinks I broke my promise. He'll probably come back to ask me about it." Although she didn't make any promises, saying she would definitely go back to find Gongzi Mingyue, she did mislead him.

She intuitively felt that Gongzi Mingyue wasn't there to cause trouble, but rather to demand an explanation. Although this intuition seemed somewhat unreliable, Linghao's intuition was different from others' and was quite reliable. Furthermore, although Gongzi Yu's matter was somewhat troublesome, it wasn't too much of a problem for a lone traveler like Linghao who had no ties; she could simply avoid it.

She avoided Young Master Mingyue back then simply because she found him troublesome. Now that he's come knocking, she has nothing to fear. Of course, the most important thing is to make sure she can beat him. With Young Master Mingyue's skills, she could easily crush him without any problem.

However, the other side has more people and more power. What if she does something underhanded? Wouldn't she be in trouble? It's better to be safe than sorry. Never put your fate in someone else's good intentions.

Then, Ling Hao suddenly looked at Hong Qigong.

Hong Qigong, who was about to say something, immediately forgot what he was going to say when he saw that look. "What's wrong?"

“Seventh Master, you are friends with my master, so you are also my elder, right?” Ling Hao asked.

Hong Qigong raised an eyebrow. "Didn't you refuse to acknowledge me before? How come you're suddenly saying I'm your elder? There's no such thing as an unsolicited favor; you're either up to no good."

Ling Hao blinked, feigning innocence, "Seventh Master, what are you saying? You've misunderstood me, and that's very hurtful."

"I see. Then I won't agree to anything you've said."

"I was wrong." Ling Hao quickly slid down to her knees to admit her mistake, her movements smooth and without the slightest hesitation.

Hong Qigong looked at her with a peculiar expression, "Your master used this method too, didn't he?"

He found it amusing but remained silent. Ah, some things are better left unsaid, even if you see them clearly.

In the afternoon, Ling Hao rode a cloud out of the city and arrived at a wasteland. She then said, "Young Master Mingyue, come out."

A gust of wind blew by, and there was no one around.

Ling Hao continued, "If you don't come out now, then don't ever appear in front of me again. I'll count to three, one, two..."

"Wait, wait, wait," a figure fell from the tree and appeared in front of Linghao, "I'm out, stop counting."

Ling Hao blinked. For some reason, she had a feeling that the other person had suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Although he had come down from the tree, as had Yang Xiao and Hong Qigong, they felt like living people, but the other person did not.

No, this is a martial arts channel, not some fantasy channel. She's got the wrong idea. Ling Hao frowned slightly. "Have you been following me?"

“No.” Gongzi Mingyue shook her head repeatedly. “I only arrived here last night. I didn’t follow you.”

"So you were following a ghost just now?"

A hint of grievance appeared on Gongzi Mingyue's face. "I've been trying to talk to you, but you ignored me before, and I didn't know how to start a conversation with you. But I didn't want to miss you, so I've been following you hesitantly. I'm not stalking you."

My sister said that nobody likes being followed, and she has changed that.

A note from the author:

----------------------

The young master Mingyue before Linghao is harmless, aggrieved, beautiful, gentle, and adorable—a multifaceted beauty. Behind Linghao, however, lies a male ghost crawling in the shadows, ready to appear at any moment.
