Chapter 8 Entangled in...
Chapter Eight: Entangled
Ling Hao bound all the bandits in the mountain stronghold into dumplings, divided them into three groups, and hid them before going down the mountain to report to the authorities. Throughout the entire ordeal, the man who called himself Gongzi Mingyue stayed by her side.
When she tied someone up, he helped hand her the rope; when she hid someone, he helped cover up the traces; when she led a cloud down the mountain to report to the authorities, he followed behind her. Ling Hao was quite helpless; was she being pestered?
"Where are your family members?" Ling Hao asked helplessly.
"Family?" Young Master Mingyue seemed to be taken aback for a moment, then remembered, "I guess I have an older brother."
“Probably?” Ling Hao was taken aback. What did that mean? This young master Mingyue was strange in every way—his name was strange, and even his way of speaking to his family was strange.
“Hmm.” Gongzi Mingyue nodded. “My brother is very smart, extremely smart. But he is too smart, to the point that his health is not very good, and he is somewhat paranoid and a little scary. In his eyes, I am not his brother, so I am probably not his brother, and he is probably not my brother either.”
It's confirmed! This guy is related to Gongzi Yu! His description of his older brother, combined with his own name, all point to a connection with Gongzi Yu. But does Gongzi Yu have a younger brother? Ling Hao thought hard for a moment, but couldn't remember.
This is quite normal, though. Compared to Jin Yong's well-structured and source-based plots, Gu Long's writing is much more casual. He often seems to write whatever comes to mind, and he's frequently vague, leaving readers with endless speculation.
For example, what exactly is the relationship between Ximen Chuixue and Yu Luosha? Are they father and son? Some speculate they are, others don't, but in any case, their relationship is definitely close. Another example is Chu Liuxiang's background. It's only confirmed that he's related to the Daqi Sect, but some say he's a descendant of the Night Emperor, and that Hu Tiehua is the one from the Daqi Sect. And who exactly is the leader of the Qinglong Society? That's also not clearly stated.
Some readers say this is a series of mysteries deliberately left by Gu Long, while others say he simply wrote as he went along, and didn't write it because he himself didn't know. Anyway, there are many different opinions. Therefore, whether Gongzi Yu has a younger brother or not, Linghao cannot be certain.
However, she was now certain that this young master Mingyue was definitely a big problem, and traveling with him would surely lead to many troubles. Thinking this, Linghao nodded and said, "If your brother doesn't treat you like a younger brother, then you shouldn't have this brother either. It's fair."
She thought to herself that she had to get rid of this person as soon as possible.
Gongzi Mingyue smiled, like a gentle breeze sweeping through the mountains and forests, "I think so too."
The two went to the government office together. Linghao told the newly arrived prefect about the situation, and after seeing the excited look in his eyes, she knew that she had not made a mistake in choosing him.
After leaving the government office, Ling Hao mounted his horse and said to Gongzi Mingyue, "You rest here for a while, I'll take them up the mountain."
“Okay.” Gongzi Mingyue nodded. “Then remember to come back to me soon.” He seemed very obedient and well-behaved. If she let him down, it would be a truly heinous crime.
Ling Hao touched her dwindling conscience and decided that she still had to become a heinous criminal. She led the government officials up the mountain, pointed out the location of the bandits, and then rode away on a cloud.
To avoid Young Master Mingyue, she refused the reward money this time—after all, she had found some silver at the mountain stronghold, not much, but acceptable. Furthermore, Linghao took a detour, unlike before when she headed straight for Fuzhou.
As she ran, she thought to herself, hoping that the young master Mingyue would come to his senses soon. Although she had left him at the government office, she hadn't said she would go back to find him. She hoped he would go home as soon as possible; that would ease her conscience.
Well, although her limited conscience meant she wasn't too upset.
While Linghao rode wildly on the clouds, Gongzi Mingyue waited for her to return to him in the government office. But from sunset to moonrise, he realized that Linghao had not promised to come back to him. He looked up at the full moon in the sky, something seemed to be churning in his eyes.
Why? He's so handsome, everyone says he's like the bright moon in the sky, why wouldn't she like him?
“Young master, you should leave.” The prefect saw that Young Master Mingyue had not left and stepped forward to advise him, “I have already said that the heroine has left and will not return…” In the moonlight, he saw that Young Master Mingyue was holding a token in his hand and immediately fell silent.
Young Master Mingyue put the token away. "Where did she go?"
The prefect respectfully replied, "At the time, the female knight said she had something to do and had to leave first, and no one saw where she went."
"She didn't like me, so she ran away," Gongzi Mingyue murmured. He looked up at the full moon in the sky and left.
Seeing him leave, the prefect breathed a sigh of relief. He couldn't help but wipe the fine sweat from his forehead. "How did this young master end up here? I wonder if the Emperor knows?" He hesitated whether to submit a memorial to the Emperor, worried that this might be considered sowing discord. He really couldn't make up his mind for the moment.
Young Master Mingyue left the yamen and casually launched a signal flare into the sky.
Soon, several dark figures appeared and knelt before him, saying, "Greetings, young master."
"Go find her trail, and then tell me." Young Master Mingyue didn't need to reveal her identity; his men already knew.
"Yes," the shadowy figure replied, and vanished in the next moment.
Gongzi Mingyue looked up at the full moon in the sky again and murmured, "No, I have to go and ask." Why doesn't she like him? Why doesn't she come back to him? Is he not handsome? Or is it that a man has to be powerful and influential to be liked, but he has all of those qualities.
He wanted to find out why she didn't like him and why she didn't come back to him.
"Achoo—!" Ling Hao, who was traveling through the night, suddenly sneezed. "Could someone be cricketing behind my back?" Was it his master? Unlikely. Then it must be that young master Mingyue.
Thinking of this, Linghao lashed out with his whip in mid-air again, not landing on the horse, but the sound of the whip cracking was heard. "Clouds, clouds, run fast, lest someone catch up!"
