Chapter 22

Chapter 22

(43) Peace of mind

The truth is within.

While I was changing Wei Zhen's clothes, I asked him, "How long will you be gone this time? Are the soldiers from Baihua City the only ones you have at your disposal? Will you be in danger? Also, why do you have to go on this expedition? Can't you let someone else do it for you?"

Wei Zhen stretched out his arms, stood there and said nothing.

He stared at me with his eyes slightly narrowed, not knowing what he was thinking.

He just looked at me quietly without answering my questions.

I slapped him on the forehead.

"Don't pretend to be profound, it's annoying!" I cursed him and buttoned his clothes angrily.

"Ah, Shang Shisan, you really deserve to be punished." Wei Zhen was suddenly slapped by me and couldn't help but scream.

I looked at Wei Zhen standing a few centimeters away from me, adjusting his coat a few times, and then making a gesture to leave Dezhenju.

I walked quickly behind him a few steps and hugged him from behind.

I pressed my face against Wei Zhen's straight back.

I don’t know when it started, but when I lean on Wei Zhen, I feel very at ease.

Wei Zhen stood there quietly, letting me hold him and not let him leave.

"I don't want you to go to war. Can you please not go?"

As I said this, I turned my face and put the other side of my face against Wei Zhen's body.

Wei Zhen turned his head to look at the mottled shadows of trees slanting through the open window.

After a long while, he said, "Madam, please stop rubbing it. The oil on your face is all over my new clothes."

"I'm afraid you'll die out there, and I'll have no choice but to cry and marry someone else and continue to be my wealthy wife. It's too tragic."

I pretended to cry and chatted with Wei Zhen in an incoherent manner.

Wei Zhen smiled after hearing what I said.

Wei Zhen held my hands which were around him with his warm hands.

"Do you know when I first met you?" Wei Zhen asked me while holding my hand.

I raised my head slightly. "Didn't you think I was a ghost standing on the side of the road that night when you tried to set a wild cat loose in the Marquis's mansion to frame the young Marquis?

I said somewhat uncertainly.

Wei Zhen turned around and hugged me.

"No, I heard one day that Yunniang, the most beautiful woman in Hebi City, took in the daughter of the Lord of Baihua City. This girl is called Shang Shisan, and she's a troublemaker. She's causing chaos in Hebi City all day long, and everyone is in a state of panic. Everyone wants to get rid of her as soon as possible."

I looked up at Wei Zhen and said, "How could I be that annoying? Who told you that? Isn't that just spreading rumors about a lady like me?"

Wei Zhen smiled gently again and continued, "Later, I heard a lot of stories about you. Every day you fought with Yunniang, with the yamen runners, with the neighbors, with the adults, with the children, with the vendors, with the officials, with the passersby, with the stray dogs, with Gu Shaolian, with Gu Shaolian's father. Later, you even nearly killed my father."

After hearing this, I angrily pounded Wei Zhen's chest and said, "Who on earth is spying on me all day? I'm a virgin, what do you, a bunch of officials' sons, want to do by staring at me all day?"

"Please, including the Emperor, we are all very afraid of you. We are watching you purely to protect ourselves. We might be caught off guard and killed by you one day. We are all very scared."

Wei Zhen rolled his eyes at me and said this.

"Then why did you tie me up and force me to marry you?" I immediately became dissatisfied after hearing Wei Zhen's complaints about me.

"This only shows that I'm sacrificing myself for justice, okay?" Wei Zhen licked my face and smiled at me with a very shameless smile, "I sacrificed myself to protect the rest of the people, sacrificing myself to protect everyone else."

(44) Wei Zhen’s Past

"You obviously married me because you wanted to disgust the young marquis. Don't think I've forgotten that you hit me with a stick." I yelled in dissatisfaction, "My arm was swollen for many days after you hit me with the stick!"

Wei Zhen's expression changed. "If I said I tied you up to marry you and beat you with a stick because I was mad at you for not paying attention to me, would you believe me?"

"I don't believe it." I shook my head without thinking. "Don't pretend to be affectionate to me. Are you that kind of romantic?"

I thought about it again, "Besides, we didn't even know each other at that time. Do you really think I'm stupid?"

When Wei Zhen heard what I said, he lowered his head and smiled.

"Indeed, we didn't know each other at that time."

Wei Zhen muttered this for some reason.

Then, he suddenly became unhappy.

He broke free from my arms and walked away.

I sat in front of the dressing table, looking at myself in the mirror, and thought about Wei Zhen, a moody person.

Although I have been in contact with him for a long time and feel that he is not violent, cruel, or vicious, it is difficult to guess what he is thinking.

Finally, with the disappearance of the last cicada chirping, the unbearable hot summer came to an end.

Probably because Wei Zhen was going to go on an expedition to a foreign country.

Wei Zhen has been getting busier and busier these days.

He was busy preparing for the expedition, arranging personnel in advance to ensure that the palace could operate normally after he left, and dealing with all kinds of miscellaneous matters.

Apart from having no time to take care of me, his useless wife, Wei Zhen was busy dealing with all the affairs of the palace.

On a daily basis, without Wei Zhen and I fooling around, without him accompanying me in my not-at-all-precious life as the wife of a young prince, to be honest, my daily life in the palace is really boring.

Especially a few days ago, Madam Wei forced me to learn the etiquette of the palace from Nanny Zhang who was beside her. She almost skinned me alive.

"That's because my mother learned that her precious son has been living in dire straits since marrying a shrew like you, so she came all the way here to save me. Just bear with it."

After hearing my complaints, Wei Zhen smiled at me maliciously while getting dressed.

"Wei Zhen, I'm about to die, and you're still mocking me." I threw the pillow at him, but I still felt unsatisfied. "You are such a cold-hearted and bad man. Just talk to your mother and ask her to let me go!"

I sat on the bed and yelled at him.

"It would be better if you died." Wei Zhen smiled even more happily after hearing this.

"If you die, I will marry another noble lady from a better family. Those noble ladies will take the initiative to help the master find a suitable and virtuous woman to be his concubine. Unlike you, a bitch, who always forbids me from doing this and that. You are always a chore."

I sat upright on the bed, swinging my feet and sneering at Wei Zhen.

"You want to take a concubine? You're dreaming, Wei Zhen. If you dare to take a concubine, I will dare to find a little man. Anyway, it's not me who is embarrassed."

I picked up the comb on the dressing table and started combing my long hair.

"But then again, you, Wei Zhen, are not someone who is afraid of losing face. In the Wei family, face is the least thing worth mentioning, right, Little Prince Wei?"

I said, combing my hair and winking at him.

After hearing what I said, Wei Zhen finally stopped laughing.

"Shang Shisan, you can play as you please and make trouble as you please. But if you dare to mess around, I will beat you to death. Don't think I'm joking with you."

After Wei Zhen finished speaking, he left angrily.

I sat on the bed, shaking my head and combing my long hair arrogantly.

I don’t know why, but every day when I see Wei Zhen upset because of me, I feel in a good mood.

I happily called Shui Ling to find me a coat I liked.
