Chapter 11 Chinese New Year

A sky-blue tent ceiling, a lake-blue quilt, a familiar smell. This is... my parents' room. It seems I'm not dead. Those two brats nearly murdered me. It's frustrating to think about it. If it were someone else, I could have gotten revenge, some revenge. Two innocent children making such a mistake, it's hard to know where to start. Never mind. I'm a magnanimous lady and won't bother with you. After this incident, I really hope I can grow up quickly. At least I can speak and walk, so I can have some life-saving skills.

Xiao Jingkang sat on the low couch in front of the bed, his head bowed, his expression unclear. Perhaps because of the father-daughter bond, as soon as Xiao Yao opened her eyes, the person on the couch turned and looked over, "Ping'an, Ping'an, you're awake. Are you in pain? Are you hungry?" His daughter had been unconscious for a whole day and night, and finally woke up. It was great. Xiao Jingkang wanted to hug his daughter, but he was afraid to hurt her, so he could only watch greedily, forgetting to call a doctor or tell anyone else. Fortunately, the clever little girl ran out to report the news.

Xiao Yao felt warm inside. This must have terrified her family. She wondered how worried her mother, brother, second aunt, and third aunt must be. She wanted to comfort her father, but she was too weak and her chest felt stuffy. The smile she forced out was not much better than crying.

"Oh, go get the doctor, go tell my wife and the others." He finally realized that he had forgotten something very important.

Xiao Jingkang hurriedly sent someone to pass on the message.

Tong Mingyu, who had already reached the door, glared at her husband who had been slow to react, then slipped back into the house and gently stroked her daughter's hair, eyebrows, and hands, tears streaming before she could say a word. She couldn't imagine what would happen if an accident really happened to her daughter. How would she survive? Would she even be able to survive?

Poor daughter, she was not as healthy as her brother when she was born, and she was injured in an accident. She must be taken care of in the future and must not be careless anymore.

The servant who went to fetch the doctor happened to meet Dr. Zhao who came for a follow-up consultation at the door. He respectfully invited him into the house.

The Xiao family had all gathered at Yayuan. Doctor Zhao carefully examined Xiao Yao and prescribed medicine. His conclusion was the same as last time: take her time to recover.

Xiao Jun had never been separated from his sister for so long, and he wanted to pounce on her, and no one could dissuade him.

"How dare you look for your sister? You know she was hurt by you?" Xiao Jingkang really wanted to slap his son again.

"I'm sorry, brother and sister-in-law. It's all Aqi's fault. I'll bring him here and beat him up to vent Ping'an's anger." The ignorant and silly-smiling son had been punished once last night. When he saw Ping'an today, he suddenly felt that the beating last night was not too light. Li Jiaoying began to roll up her sleeves.

"How old are Ajun and Aqi? What do they know? Isn't everything fine now?" They were so unreasonable, their eyes were like knives, their biological father was partial to them, and their aunt was also partial to them. Qin's face was gloomy and her voice was slightly cold.

Tong Mingyu lowered her head, suppressing the uneasiness within her heart. She let her son come closer to look at Ping An. The two chatted freely, Xiao Jun exclaiming with delight, Xiao Yao occasionally chiming in. "What about the little fat boy?" she asked. "Why isn't he here? He was so humiliated that he almost died, or did he flee out of fear of punishment?"

Seeing Xiao Yao looking around, Xiao Jingkang asked his daughter, "Are you looking for Aqi?"

"Yeah." Xiao Yao nodded. Her brother didn't care, but her cousin must be treated the same. They would have fun together in the future!

Qin nodded in satisfaction. Her granddaughter had behaved well, and her slight dissatisfaction with her vanished. Tong Mingyu felt relieved when she saw her mother-in-law smile. Even if her daughter couldn't please her grandmother, she couldn't annoy her either. It was best not to alienate the family because of this matter.

Xiao Yao's illness dampened the family's New Year's atmosphere, and the newly assigned staff took extra care. Xiao Yao also noticed that the people around her had been completely replaced. Only Qiao Yue and Qiao Si, who were out on business that day for Tong Mingyu, escaped the disaster. On the other hand, if they had been there that day, perhaps none of this would have happened. After careful nursing and treatment, Xiao Yao's health improved day by day. Only then did the family regain the mood and energy to welcome the New Year.

Yuan Yutong strolled around the backyard, her belly already well into her due date. Compared to her anxious mother-in-law and sisters-in-law, she was calm and composed, often pointing at her belly and scolding the baby inside, "If you dare to be naughty again, you'll get a beating when you come out." Xiao Yao, however, worried that she had scared the baby in her aunt's belly the day she was injured. Otherwise, why hadn't it been born yet? Could it be Xiao Qi, or the second sister, who was refusing to show up?

Letters from my grandfather and third uncle continued to arrive. The year-end always brings a special longing for distant relatives. Qin couldn't help but think of her youngest son, who hadn't been home in two years. Of the four children, he was the most handsome, elegant and graceful. But because someone in Kyoto remarked that he looked like a woman, he left in anger and followed the retired Grand Tutor Qian. He hasn't returned yet, and there's no telling if he'll be back this year.

After eating Laba porridge, it is the Little New Year and the festive atmosphere is getting stronger and stronger.

Xiao Rui, guarded by his eldest brother, set off firecrackers in the yard. Xiao Jun and Xiao Qi leaned against the window to watch the fun. Xiao Yao sat in her second brother's arms, listening to him read to her. The traditional Chinese characters in each passage made her feel like she had been transported back to the pre-liberation era. After reading a paragraph, Xiao Ming lowered his head and asked his sister, "Did Ping An understand? Did it sound good?"

"Okay," Xiao Yao answered loudly. The content was irrelevant, but the gesture must be appreciated.

Everyone in the room looked over.

"It's a good sign. If Ping'an says it's good, it must be good. Children never tell lies." Qin was very happy.

You and he kept praising Xiao Yao until she lowered her head. She twisted her body and burrowed into her brother's arms, acting shy. I don't know if it's normal for a child over ten months old to be able to talk. In the future, she should learn more from her fifth brother how to be a child, and never overact.

Xiao Yang sat upright, a book in his hand. Seeing his sister looking at him curiously, he raised the book and asked simply, "Do you want to read?"

Xiao Yao shook her head decisively. She didn't understand anything about the nonsense at all. She thought miscellaneous books were more interesting. Xiao Yi gave his sister and the book in his hand to his younger brother. The two looked at each other in confusion. What was going on? Don't bully others like this. Xiao Yao didn't want to embarrass her third brother, so she secretly glared at her second brother and picked up the book to read. We learn by ourselves. It doesn't matter whether we understand it or not. This way everyone will be at ease. Xiao Yang took a lot of effort to convince himself. He took the book that his sister had knocked over and started reading resignedly.

New Year arrived, and Yuan Yutong still hadn't given birth. Xiao Yao's injuries had healed, and the peace they'd just regained was now tense again. Instead, Yuan Yutong constantly reassured everyone, "Don't worry, it's okay." Three little red-faced children, patiently instructed by their older brothers, took turns bowing to their elders. Xiao Jun's movements were clumsy, and Xiao Qi nearly stumbled, drawing laughter. When it was Xiao Yao's turn, a delicate, picturesque girl in a fiery red brocade dress embroidered with goldfish, her eyes beaming. Supported by her second brother, she tottered towards her grandmother, bowed, clasped her hands, kowtowed, and finally uttered a crisp "OK," appearing incredibly adorable and lively.

Qin was overjoyed, and she liked her granddaughter more and more.

"Ping'an, say hello to your second uncle and aunt quickly, there's New Year's money for them." Xiao Jingtai waved the red envelope in his hand temptingly.

Xiao Yao smiled playfully, shook her head gently, walked around her second uncle, and went to her parents to pay her respects, then to her second uncle and second aunt. When she came to her third aunt, Xiao Yao touched her round belly with her little hands, smiled brightly and said "good" three times.

When the day came, the baby refused to come out. Although Yuan Yutong tried to comfort others with her words, she couldn't help but feel anxious when she was alone, unable to sleep soundly at night, afraid of what might happen... Xiao Yao's actions today made her feel strangely relieved. Isn't it said that children's eyes can see many things that adults can't? If so, the baby in her belly must be fine and there must be nothing wrong with it, right?

"Okay, it's best if we are safe." Yuan Yutong said very gently with red eyes.

This child is so sweet. It would be great if we could give birth to a child as beautiful and sensible as Ping An!
