Chapter 35: Recuperation

Not to mention what the situation will be like after the Fang family returns, the Xiao family has invited a court physician since Xiao Yao fell ill. The person who is going to invite the imperial physician is still on the way, and the court physician has already started taking Qin's pulse.

Doctor Liang, who was in his forties, carefully examined Qin and asked in detail about the cause of the disease. He concluded that it was caused by anger, and then prescribed medicine and acupuncture.

When Qin's complexion looked a little relieved, the imperial physician arrived and examined her in detail again. The conclusion he reached was the same as Doctor Liang's diagnosis.

Tong Mingyu arranged for the maid to go downstairs and boil the medicine quickly, and most of the people in the room were also arranged to go to the side hall to wait for news.

Unexpectedly, it took a whole day and a night for Qin to finally wake up.

General Xiao sat in an armchair, dozing off with his head supported by one hand. After all, he was sixty years old, and it was not easy for him to endure for such a long time.

Xiao Jingmin and his wife sat a little further away, both looking worried.

At the end of the bed, Xiao Jingyan leaned against the bedpost, looking daydreaming, and no one knew what he was thinking about.

Qin struggled to open her eyes and saw her little son sitting at her feet.

"Brother Yan, Brother Yan." He called out twice in a hoarse voice.

"Mom, you're awake. I'll go ask Doctor Liang to come over." Xiao Jingyan suddenly stood up and was about to go out to find someone.

"Why are you panicking, Chunlan? Go and ask Doctor Liang to come over." General Xiao commanded calmly.

"Yes, sir." The hurried footsteps gradually faded away.

"How are you feeling? Thirsty? Hungry?" General Xiao asked with concern. He had been away from home for years and felt deeply indebted to his wife. His absence had been fine before, but now, watching her sick and lying in bed, unable to offer any assistance, the feeling of being powerless left him feeling overwhelmed.

"I'm fine, I just need to lie down, don't worry." Qin couldn't remember how long it had been since she heard her husband's caring voice like this.

The general who used to be rough and unrestrained was now lowering his voice and slowing down his tone, treating her with his most gentle attitude. How could Qin not be moved?

After being moved, I felt deeply guilty. All the troubles of the Fang family were caused by me, which made the whole family uneasy. Alas, I don’t know how things turned out in the end?

"The Fang family..." She had only said two words when her husband waved his hand to stop her.

"It's okay, everything has been resolved. Don't worry, your precious son is safe." General Xiao said jokingly.

Qin said in a low voice, full of apology: "I have caused trouble for my family. I didn't expect them to be that kind of people."

She is greedy and has her eyes on several people in the family. With that kind of personality, if the granddaughter of that kind of person comes into the family, I am afraid there will never be peace in the family.

"They promised not to mention the engagement again, and it's already written down in black and white. You can just focus on recuperating now, and you don't have to worry about it anymore."

After hearing what her husband said, Qin finally settled down and focused on recuperating. With her illness, she would be almost cured once she woke up.

After drinking the medicine for two days, her body had almost recovered, but her family members refused to let her get out of bed and insisted that she lie down for a few more days.

Seeing that she was getting better, the men started to busy themselves with their own affairs again. Only Xiao Jingyan had to report to Ninghe Hall every day. If Qin Shi didn't see him for a long time, she would send people to look for him again and again.

The daughters-in-law take turns to serve their mother-in-law at her bedside, and several older grandchildren also come to accompany her every day. However, the four younger grandchildren have not been allowed to come over these days for fear that they will disturb their grandmother's rest.

Mrs. Tong came to visit Qin on the third day after she fell ill. Seeing that Qin was in good spirits and looked good, she sat down and started chatting with her in-laws.

"We are all elderly people. We must take extra care of our health and remember not to be too happy or too sad." Mrs. Tong patted Qin's hand and said.

"I will definitely remember this. How is Erlang's wife? Who does the child look like?" Qin was still thinking about her in-laws' daughter-in-law who was not even a month old.

"Thank you for your concern. The mother and daughter are both fine. It's just that I don't know who this child looks like. He's wrinkled. My master said that all the advantages of the Tong family have been taken by Ping An. God only sent this ugly boy here. I will come to talk to my in-laws someday!"

"The lawsuit between these two old men will never be resolved in this lifetime, so let them do whatever they want." Thinking of the incident of snatching the granddaughter on the grandfather's birthday, the two men laughed again.

After chatting with Qin for a while, Madam Tong left Ninghe Hall. After all, the patient needed to rest and it was not appropriate to disturb him for a long time. When she arrived at Yayuan, Madam Tong did not look for her daughter, but asked about her grandson and granddaughter. Tong Mingyu felt that since she had these twins, her status in her parents' eyes had declined again and again.

"Can't you please show some concern for me first and then ask about my grandson and granddaughter? That way I can at least feel better."

"I'm not the kind of person who's hypocritical. Why would I force myself if I clearly don't want to? I say one thing and mean another."

"Even my own mother despises me. I am such a pitiful person." Tong Mingyu pretended to be pitiful when she saw her son and daughter coming over.

Xiao Yao's short legs hurried her pace, her mother heartbroken. As a proper little girl, she had to rush forward to fulfill her duty. She showered her with kisses and flattered her, completely busy. Madam Tong was so jealous she wanted to act pitiful herself. Xiao Jun, imitating his sister, comforted his grandmother. Mother and daughter, each holding a child, chatted casually.

“You have to be the head of the household here and take care of your mother-in-law.

If I'm too busy, I can take them home and take care of them for a while."

"My second sister-in-law is still in confinement after giving birth, so it's not appropriate for them to go. Don't worry, I'll take care of it. These two children probably know that their grandmother has been ill recently, so they are particularly obedient and don't need too much trouble to take care of them.

During the day, there are wet nurses and maids looking after them, and at night when I’m not around, Ayi and Ayang will play with them.”

"I really want to see how Ayang coaxes the child." Mrs. Tong couldn't imagine what the scene would be like.

"Ayang has a bit of a strange temper, but he's completely calm around Ping An. In the past, I've never seen him read travelogues or other miscellaneous books, but now he's reading them so smoothly while holding Ping An in his arms."

"Can Ping An still tell what book he is reading?"

"I can't tell, but when he reads travelogues or something like that, Ping An becomes very alert. When he reads the Analects, Ping An falls asleep."

"Haha, haha, no wonder your father complains all the time. The energy and spirit of the Xiao and Tong families have been absorbed by Ping An. This kid is simply a whim."

"Sometimes I feel uneasy. They say that extreme wisdom can lead to harm. I'm really worried about her future."

"Don't let your imagination run wild. With so many of us protecting her, nothing will happen to her. If you're really worried, leave her to your second sister-in-law's son, Xiao Jiabao. Once she marries back into the Tong family, you'll finally be able to rest assured."

Xiao Yao lay in her mother's arms, really wanting to know how her mother would answer her grandmother's words. Since it concerned her own future, she must listen carefully.

"Of course I'd be happy if Ping'an could marry back into the Tong family, but she's older than Jiabao, and she doesn't know what being the second sister-in-law means.

I can't make the decision here on my own.

We shouldn't worry about this. The two children will see each other often in the future. If they get along well and both families have no objections, then it will be a done deal. If they are not destined to be husband and wife, then they can still be cousins. It's okay, what do you think?

"I understand what you mean. We'll just have to wait and see how the two children get along in the future before making a decision. Ping'an is just too young. Otherwise, it would be great to marry Wen Yan, your eldest sister's son."

Xiao Yao silently counted the boys among her relatives. Fortunately, there were not many of them, otherwise her grandmother would not know who to marry her to.

Nestled in her mother's arms, she was about to fall asleep when she heard a voice coming from above her head, "I don't ask for this child to be rich, I just hope that she can live a peaceful and happy life." Xiao Yao rubbed herself hard in Tong Mingyu's arms, "Mom, for your words, I will work hard to manage my life."
