Chapter 32

When the doorbell rang, Gu Qingyue got off the sofa wrapped in a blanket. She ran to the door and was about to put her hand on the doorknob when she seemed to think of something. She tiptoed and put her face close to the peephole. Seeing the person at the door through the peephole, she turned the doorknob with confidence, poked her head out, carefully glanced behind the man, and said, "Where's that person?"

Gu Hengsheng walked in, closed the door behind him, smiled slightly, and said, "I'm leaving."

Gu Qingyue patted his chest and let out a long sigh.

Gu Hengsheng stood at the entrance: "Qingyue, do you have slippers?"

Gu Qingyue uttered an "oh" and squatted in front of the shoe cabinet. She opened it and said to herself, "I remember there was a pair of hotel slippers. Let me look for them."

"Oh, I found it." She handed him a pair of slippers, still intact in a drawstring canvas bag, as if presenting a treasure.

Gu Hengsheng took the gray canvas bag. His eyes were drawn to the words "Hanglin Hotel" embroidered in gold thread on it. Seeing this, Gu Qingyue explained, "I brought it back from my high school graduation trip when I stayed in a hotel."

"High school graduation trip." He smiled, lowered his eyebrows to look at the slippers on his feet, and said, "These shoes are quite old."

Gu Qingyue said "yes", and then heard him ask: "How do you know that person?"

Gu Qingyue hugged her knees, tilted her head back slightly, and frowned: "I..."

"Don't squat on the ground," he said, holding out his hand.

Gu Qingyue stared at the hand stretched out in front of her. The palm was broad and the knuckles were slender. On the wrist was a Lange mechanical watch with a silver-gray dial and a black leather strap.

Gu Qingyue tilted her head and said, "Your watch is very beautiful."

"Thank you." He smiled gently.

She reached out and held his hand, then stood up as he said. After a few seconds of touching her, she felt that his hand was large, long, and warm. Gu Qingyue was actually a little reluctant to let go.

Gu Qingyue lowered her eyelashes and said, "I bumped into him last time when I went to see my sister's show, but I can't say we know each other."

Gu Hengsheng didn't seem to care about this. He unpacked the bag he had just bought from the pharmacy and took out a grayish-white electronic thermometer: "Take the temperature."

Gu Qingyue looked at the thermometer, looking at him in confusion: "Hmm? How do I use it? Put it in my mouth?"

"In the mouth and under the armpits, both are fine," he said.

Gu Qingyue said "oh" and slowly took off the blanket covering her body. She raised her right wrist slightly and saw Gu Hengsheng leave the living room and go to the kitchen out of the corner of her eye.

The kitchen in her apartment was an open-plan design. Gu Qingyue heard him open the refrigerator. Gu Hengsheng looked at the empty refrigerator. He couldn't help but put his hand on his forehead and tilted his head slightly to look at the girl in the living room: "Have you had lunch?"

"No." Gu Qingyue crossed her legs and shook her head.

Gu Hengsheng closed the refrigerator door and said, "You haven't had breakfast yet?"

"Yeah." Gu Qingyue nodded slightly.

"You're still sick, so you still need to eat breakfast." Gu Hengsheng took out his cell phone from inside his coat and said with his head down, "I'll buy something. What do you want to eat?"

"A bowl of hot noodles." She said, and after a while, she slowly added, "I don't want to eat takeout. Can you cook me a bowl of noodles?"

"Okay," he said, then lowered his head to open the supermarket app on his phone, then looked back toward the kitchen. "Looks like I need to buy some seasonings. You've never used a kitchen before?"

"I used it once." Her tone was somewhat guilty.

Gu Hengsheng probably heard the floating feeling in her tone. He held the phone and looked down at her: "Oh, when.

"Cooking instant noodles with my roommate." Her voice was so low that it was almost inaudible.

Gu Hengsheng nodded with a smile, as if he had expected this.

Gu Qingyue then remembered that she had never entertained him since he came in. She stood up from the sofa and said, "Can I pour you a glass of water?"

"No, I'm not thirsty yet." said Gu Hengsheng.

Gu Qingyue said "oh" and sat back on the sofa.

Half an hour later, someone rang the doorbell.

Gu Hengsheng walked to the door and opened it. He had already taken off his coat and was wearing a white shirt. He was tall and thin, and the white, starched shirt made him look several levels higher in price.

He reached out to take the food from the delivery man and whispered a thank you. Gu Qingyue then realized that he seemed to be dressed very formally today. She rested her chin on one hand and said, "Are you attending a meeting today?"

"There's a seminar at the Academy of Sciences."

"Did I disturb you when I called?"

"No." Gu Hengsheng glanced at her and said, "When you called, the seminar had just ended."

Gu Hengsheng took out the ingredients and seasonings he had bought from the shopping bag and placed them on the counter. Gu Qingyue stood up, walked to the side of the counter, and said, "Do you need my help?"

Gu Hengsheng shook his head and said, "Just sit down and rest."

Gu Qingyue hummed, then slowly said, "I want to eat sour soup noodles, is that okay?"

Oh, so that's her purpose. Gu Hengsheng smiled and said, "Well, but I can't guarantee how it tastes."

Gu Qingyue disagreed. She said firmly, "I think whatever you cook will taste good."

Facts have proved that what Gu Qingyue said was not an exaggeration.

The sour noodle soup Gu Hengsheng made was indeed delicious. The broth was thick with red oil, and the noodles were topped with a few green leaves and a medium-rare fried egg, garnished with chopped green onions. Gu Qingyue took a sip of the noodle soup, and it was just as she'd expected, with just the right balance of sour and spicy, which whetted her appetite. Her eyes lit up as she said, "The soup is delicious."

Gu Hengsheng smiled and sat down at the table. He picked up his chopsticks. The noodles in the bowl were in clear soup. Gu Qingyue asked curiously, "Don't you like spicy food?"

"I'm not used to it," he said.

"Oh, what a pity." She said with regret, as if it was a great loss that he didn't eat spicy food.

Gu Hengsheng smiled and said, "But you are still sick, so you should eat less spicy food."

"I have no appetite when I'm sick. When I have no appetite, I want to eat something spicy." Gu Qingyue said readily.

"Okay, I understand." Gu Hengsheng said.

After finishing the noodles, Gu Hengsheng washed the dishes at the counter and took the time to glance at her: "Are you planning to stay here for the next two days?"

Gu Qingyue was flipping through a book and nodded: "Yes, I'll go back to school tomorrow."

Just at this moment, Gu Hengsheng's cell phone on the dining table rang. He couldn't free his hands, so he called out to Gu Qingyue, who was curled up on the sofa: "Qingyue, help me get through the call."

Gu Qingyue said "oh", stood up, and took the phone. It was an unfamiliar number with no name. She pressed the answer button, and a childish voice came from the other end: "Third uncle, I'm in Huai City."

Gu Qingyue held the phone to her ear with a confused look on her face. Gu Hengsheng glanced back at her and asked who it was.

Gu Qingyue shook her head. Then the phone on the other end seemed to change hands, and a gentle female voice came out: "Is this Qingyue?"

Gu Qingyue hummed and called her Fourth Aunt. Liang Wan said with a smile, "Gu Xin said it was a young lady's voice. I thought it was someone else, but it turns out it's you. Where's Hengsheng?"

"Oh, he's washing dishes." Gu Qingyue took the phone from her ear. Gu Hengsheng washed his hands, took two pieces of tissues to wipe his hands, and then took the phone.

Gu Hengsheng didn't go far and stood by the kitchen table to answer the phone. Gu Qingyue stood aside, but her mind couldn't help but think of the scene she encountered in the garden three months ago.

The author has something to say: Happy New Year’s Eve.

Don't complain about the lack of progress in the next few chapters. These chapters are all paving the way for Qingyue's quarrel with her uncle.
