Chapter 37

It's only been two days since Christmas, and the streets are still buzzing with Christmas stickers and Christmas trees. It's a shame it didn't snow this year.

Two days after Christmas, it snowed.

Gu Qingyue stepped on the soft blanket of snow and breathed a sigh of relief. She anticipated her upcoming meeting with Gu Hengsheng and wondered whether her first words should be an apology or a pretense of indifference.

Gu Qingyue felt that she shouldn't have agreed to this offer in the heat of the moment. Now she was stuck in a dilemma. She raised her hand and pressed the elevator button, taking a few deep breaths before stepping inside.

The elevator has a separate entrance and when the elevator door opens, it is Gu Hengsheng's apartment.

Gu Qingyue raised her hand and pressed the doorbell, and then she seemed to hear footsteps approaching from afar.

Gu Hengsheng opened the door. Gu Qingyue was standing there. The first thing she said when she saw him was, "Merry Christmas."

Gu Hengsheng laughed and said, "Qingyue, today is not Christmas."

Fortunately, he was still the same and did not put on a cold face and drive her away.

Gu Qingyue breathed a sigh of relief. "I know. I just wanted to tell you something."

Gu Hengsheng moved aside and let her in. Gu Qingyue changed her shoes at the entrance: "I thought you were going to turn me away."

"How could that be?" Gu Hengsheng closed the door and looked at her.

Gu Qingyue stared at him, her tone somewhat guilty: "After all, I was rude that day."

He didn't seem to want to discuss this topic any further. He glanced at the cardboard bag she placed on the shoe cabinet and asked, "Are these the Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs your mother asked you to bring?"

"You know?" Gu Qingyue supported herself on the corner of the shoe cabinet and looked up at him.

"Your mother called me," he said.

Gu Qingyue sat on the sofa, and Zaisif pounced at her feet. Gu Qingyue held Zaisif on her lap and rubbed his soft belly.

Gu Hengsheng was processing the hairy crabs she brought. Gu Qingyue looked at his back. Suddenly, he turned around and looked at her: "Do you want to stay for dinner?"

Gu Qingyue nodded and continued, "My mother told me that you went out of town to attend a meeting a few days ago?"

"yes."

"Have you considered continuing to teach at S University next semester?"

"No." He cleaned the hairy crabs and put them in the steamer.

Gu Qingyue hummed and continued to rub Zaisif on her legs. In the living room, a cell phone rang. Gu Hengsheng wiped his hands and put the phone to his ear.

Gu Qingyue had no intention of eavesdropping, but he was talking on the phone in the living room, so it was impossible for her not to hear. After he hung up, Gu Qingyue asked, "Are there any guests coming?"

As soon as he finished speaking, the doorbell rang.

Gu Hengsheng walked to the entrance and opened the door, only to hear a soft female voice teasing him, "I didn't expect to be able to taste your cooking today. It's really not easy."

The person changed shoes at the entrance. Her long hair was loose and her face was lightly made up. She was wearing a beige leather windbreaker and a hip-hugging black knitted skirt. She had a pair of black short boots on her feet, and she looked elegant.

Zhou Yunian changed into a pair of cotton slippers and was a little surprised to see the girl sitting on the sofa. She then nodded and smiled at Gu Qingyue: "Hello."

Gu Qingyue smiled back at him, raised her eyes to look at Gu Hengsheng, and waited for him to introduce them.

Gu Hengsheng said: "Zhou Yunian."

He only told her the guest's name, and didn't explain their relationship. Gu Qingyue didn't dare to ask further, so she just said, "Gu Qingyue."

Zhou Yunian's eyes were filled with curiosity as she asked, "Oh, what is your relationship with Gu Hengsheng?"

"He is my third uncle."

Zhou Yunian nodded in understanding, and Gu Hengsheng asked her what she wanted to drink?

Zhou Yunian said, "Warm water."

Zhou Yunian sat down on the sofa and asked her, "Are you still in college?"

"Yes." Gu Qingyue nodded.

"What's your major?"

"Chinese."

"She must be a talented girl." Zhou Yunian wanted to praise her, "How could you think of this?"

Gu Qingyue shook her head. "During the holiday after the college entrance exam, I was having a headache choosing a major. One day, I had a dream. In the dream, I became a popular writer, so I chose the Chinese major."

Zhou Yunian laughed out loud and said, "Oh, so you like writing?"

"I don't like it." Gu Qingyue stared at her and said.

Zhou Yunian smiled and moved closer to her: "Hey, Qingyue, do you hate me?"

Gu Qingyue was stunned.

Zhou Yunian smiled and said, "It's okay. I like you."

Gu Qingyue was speechless, feeling somewhat guilty.

During this time, Zhou Yunian went to the bathroom. Gu Qingyue got up from the sofa, walked to the kitchen counter, and stared at Gu Hengsheng's back: "Are you friends with Miss Zhou?"

Gu Hengsheng was preparing a sea bass. Upon hearing this, he turned and looked at her closely. His expression was calm, and Gu Qingyue couldn't make out anything. Her fingers tapped unconsciously on the countertop. Gu Hengsheng caught her small movement and said, "Yes."

Gu Qingyue breathed a sigh of relief, a smile appeared on her lips, and she said "oh" softly.

Gu Hengsheng sighed and continued to cut the fish. Gu Qingyue asked, "What kind of fish is this?"

"sea bass."

"oh."

Zhou Yunian came out of the bathroom and walked over to the cooking table. She said, "I wonder how Professor Gu's cooking is?"

"It's delicious." said Gu Qingyue.

"Really? I've known him for so many years, but I've never tasted his cooking. I'm really honored to have had the opportunity today." Zhou Yunian looked at Gu Qingyue and whispered, "Thank you for this."

"Why should you thank me?" Gu Qingyue's eyes were confused and lost.

"If we meet again someday, I'll answer this puzzle for you." Zhou Yunian said mysteriously.

Gu Qingyue naturally couldn't solve Zhou Yunian's riddle, but she suddenly found that she liked Zhou Yunian a little bit.

After the meal, Gu Qingyue added Zhou Yunian on WeChat. Zhou Yunian was an interesting person, straightforward in her speech, with rich experience and having been to many places. Gu Qingyue was a little envious of her.

Zhou Yunian took a bite of the fish, the meat was fresh and tender. She raised her eyebrows and said, "Hey, I didn't expect you to be so good at it."

Gu Hengsheng asked her, "Does your uncle know that you are here this time?"

"I didn't tell him that I had to leave because my flight was at nine in the evening."

Gu Qingyue was curious: "Are you in such a hurry?"

"Yes, but it's worth the trip to be able to eat the dishes cooked by Professor Gu in person," said Zhou Yunian.

After lunch, Zhou Yunian received a call and left. Gu Qingyue stayed to help Gu Hengsheng clean up the dishes. Gu Qingyue asked, "Have you known Sister Yu Nian for a long time?"

"Yeah, we knew each other when we were kids."

"Aren't they childhood sweethearts?" Gu Qingyue felt a little jealous.

Gu Hengsheng looked at her and said, "What do you want to say?"

Gu Qingyue shook her head and looked at him sincerely: "I still want to apologize to you. I'm sorry for what happened that day."

Hearing this, Gu Hengsheng smiled slightly: "I accept your apology."
