Chapter 47
"What about you?" Gu Qingyue looked up at him.
Gu Hengsheng glanced at her and said, "It depends on the situation."
Gu Qingyue retracted her gaze, staring at the glass in front of her, and said, "If I can't find an internship, can I help you?"
Gu Hengsheng looked at her gently and said, "If you think you are capable of doing it, then yes."
Gu Qingyue felt a little embarrassed and began to back down: "Physics is my worst subject. I don't think I can do it."
Gu Hengsheng became interested. He asked, "How bad is it?"
"Give me some face and don't ask." Gu Qingyue frowned regretfully, as if she was annoyed that her shortcomings were mentioned for no reason.
Gu Hengsheng let out a faint laugh. He checked his phone again and said, "It's getting late. I'll take you home."
Gu Qingyue nodded and got up from the sofa.
The two entered the elevator, and Gu Qingyue asked, "How is Grandpa doing lately?"
"Same old as always." Gu Hengsheng said, seemingly unwilling to say more.
Gu Qingyue didn't say anything else. When they arrived at Su's house, before getting off the car, she asked him for a lucky word, asking him to wish her to receive the offer as soon as possible.
Gu Hengsheng was a bit amused, but at least it was as she wished. Gu Qingyue got out of the car happily and reminded him to drive carefully as usual.
Three days later, Gu Qingyue received a call from a magazine company and arranged an interview on Tuesday afternoon. That day, Gu Qingyue changed into a slightly more formal suit.
Looking at herself in the mirror wrapped in a black suit, Gu Qingyue couldn't help but take a second look. This was her first time trying on such formal attire. She thought it would look old-fashioned, but fortunately the effect was good.
Su Xi passed by the door, took a look, and praised: "It looks good, and it looks a bit bookish."
Gu Qingyue asked her for advice: "What should I pay attention to during the interview?"
"Don't exaggerate too much, and don't reveal the truth either. Keep the balance appropriately."
Gu Qingyue pondered this sentence and felt that it would be better to act according to circumstances.
The company she was interviewing for was an hour's drive from Su's house, so Gu Qingyue took a taxi. Su Xi had originally wanted to have her family's driver take her, but Gu Qingyue felt that having a dedicated driver to pick her up for an interview seemed a bit too squeamish.
The company is located in an office building in a commercial plaza. Gu Qingyue got out of the car, went in, registered with the front desk staff, and then took the elevator upstairs.
The person who interviewed her was a young man wearing black-framed glasses and had a friendly attitude. He asked Gu Qingyue to call him Editor-in-Chief Xu. He took the resume from her hand, asked a few questions, and then decided that she would officially start work tomorrow.
Gu Qingyue was slightly surprised: "According to the normal procedures, shouldn't I go back and wait for a reply?"
Hearing this, Editor-in-Chief Xu smiled and said, "Oh, of course we'll make the decision on the spot if someone meets our needs. We don't do those empty promises. If someone we like, we'll keep them. Talent is hard to come by."
Gu Qingyue immediately had a better impression of this company. At least the attitude of Editor-in-Chief Xu was not that of a pretentious person, so it wouldn't be too difficult to get along with him in the future at work.
Gu Qingyue left the company and sent a message to Gu Hengsheng, asking if he was home. After a while, he called.
Gu Qingyue answered the phone, and he asked her where she was. Gu Qingyue told him where she was, and Gu Hengsheng told her to wait there.
Gu Qingyue was wearing a suit skirt, which was not very cold-resistant. At this moment, the wind suddenly blew, and she stood on the curb with her hands folded. A boy came forward and offered to give her a ride.
Gu Qingyue shook her head and refused, saying, "Thank you, someone is here to pick me up."
The boy gave in and asked for her contact information. Gu Qingyue smiled and said, "The person I like is coming to pick me up."
As the words fell, a Ford Bridge slowly approached. Gu Qingyue's eyes lit up and she walked towards the car. She opened the door, bent down and got into the passenger seat, and whispered, "I'm freezing."
This was the first time she had dressed like this. Her long hair draped over her shoulders, her eyebrows dark and her lips red, her nose blown red by the wind, made her look even more like a little girl. He looked away and said, "Why are you wearing so little?"
Gu Qingyue said righteously: "For the interview."
Gu Hengsheng smiled, his hands on the steering wheel, and asked, "What's the result?"
"Let me go to work tomorrow."
Gu Hengsheng smiled knowingly and said, "Congratulations."
Gu Qingyue pressed the issue further: "To celebrate my official start of work tomorrow, can I have dinner at your place tonight?"
Gu Hengsheng looked at her and after a moment, said, "Okay."
Gu Qingyue stared at the traffic ahead and suddenly had an idea: "I plan to learn how to drive. It will be more convenient after I start working. What do you think?"
She asked for his opinion, but he asked, "Why didn't you learn it in high school?"
"I was timid back then, and always felt I couldn't control something so big," Gu Qingyue said truthfully. "One time, I wanted to drive a friend's electric bike, but as soon as my hands touched the handlebars, my mind went blank. I twisted the handlebars so hard that I almost flew off with the bike. Afterward, I felt I couldn't even control a two-wheeled vehicle, let alone a behemoth on four wheels."
"Once you try it, you'll find it's not that scary," said Gu Hengsheng.
"Well, I guess that attempt left a bad impression on me."
As they talked, the car soon arrived at Gu Hengsheng's residence. Gu Hengsheng took off his coat, hung it on the hanger, washed his hands and started cooking.
Gu Qingyue sat on the carpet and played with Zaisif. Gu Qingyue asked, "How did you feel on your first day at work?"
Gu Hengsheng frowned slightly and thought for a moment. Afterwards, he said, "It's been too long. I can't remember clearly."
He seemed to see through her thoughts and asked, "It's just an ordinary day. You don't have to put too much pressure on yourself. Relax, Qingyue."
"You always seem to be able to guess what I'm thinking." Gu Qingyue rested her chin on one hand and rubbed Zaisif on her leg with the other hand. "I was wondering if you noticed something."
Gu Hengsheng: "What?"
Gu Qingyue shook her head and said, "I'll tell you another day when I have the courage."
Gu Hengsheng looked at her and said nothing.
Gu Qingyue had been interning at the company for a month. Her relationships with colleagues were simple, without any discord. Her initial concerns had gradually dispelled. Her inexperience led her to make some minor mistakes during the first two days, but after learning from them, she was gradually getting on track. Gu Qingyue was working as an assistant to Editor-in-Chief Xu. After spending some time together, she realized that Editor-in-Chief Xu was only two years her senior and preferred men to women.
That day, Gu Qingyue worked overtime until seven o'clock because she hadn't finished her work. When she came to her senses, she found that it was already raining heavily outside.
Gu Qingyue frowned in frustration. The wind and rain lashed her body, leaving a wet patch on the floor of the main door. She retreated a little into the hall. The rain was pouring down, and the small folding umbrella in her hand might be cut in half by the strong wind if she stepped out.
She took her cell phone out of her bag and realized it had been turned off. She turned it on and saw more than a dozen calls. Then it rang. It was Gu Hengsheng.
Gu Qingyue pressed the answer button, and the voice on the other end was Gu Hengsheng's: "Qingyue, why didn't you answer the phone just now?"
"My phone accidentally turned off." Gu Qingyue explained.
"Where are you now?" he asked.
"Downstairs at the company." Gu Qingyue looked at the heavy rain outside the window and sighed, "It's raining so hard."
"I'll pick you up," he said.
Gu Qingyue sat on the sofa in the hall, staring at the rain outside, in a daze. Shu Miaomiao sent her a message, telling her that she was no longer single.
Gu Qingyue was a little surprised and asked her who that person was. Shu Miaomiao said, "It's the guy who sent me last time. He's five years older than her. He's thoughtful and considerate. He usually takes good care of her, and she has a good impression of him."
Gu Qingyue replied: [Congratulations, congratulations.]
Shu Miaomiao: [Maybe during this internship, you will meet the right person.]
Gu Qingyue thought, I have already met him. At this moment, outside the glass door, in the misty rain, Gu Hengsheng came over with a black umbrella. His straight figure was still clear in the rain.
Gu Qingyue got in the car. Raindrops hit the glass window, making it wet. She said, "It's raining so hard. I thought I wouldn't be able to go home at night."
"Why are you working so late?" he asked.
"As an intern, you have to appear hardworking." She disagreed.
The car drove onto the avenue, but due to heavy rain, the road was blocked. The two were stuck in traffic. Gu Qingyue looked out the window and said, "Miaomiao is in love."
Gu Hengsheng had some impression of her and knew she was her good friend. He smiled and asked, "Who is she?"
"It's her colleague, five years older than her. He's very kind and thoughtful to her. She said it's hard not to be moved." Gu Qingyue took a deep breath and asked him, "Do you think there will be a sudden flood with such a heavy rain, and we will be trapped in the car and washed away?"
Gu Hengsheng laughed: "Qingyue, it's just a rainstorm, don't worry."
She turned her head again and stared at him with a serious expression: "Uncle San, I want to ask you a question?"
"What?" He looked at her gently.
"I want to ask you, should I be moved by your kindness to me, or is your kindness to me only because of my father?" she said.
The last time she asked that question, they parted ways unhappily and she didn't get an answer. At this moment, she wanted to know what his answer was.
The rain outside the car window seemed to get heavier in an instant. The raindrops falling on the roof were like the sound of drums, hitting my ears one by one, quickly and heavily.
Gu Qingyue held her breath and waited for an answer.
