Chapter 66

Two days after Gu Qingyue returned to Huai City, she met Shu Miaomiao for dinner. They met at a Japanese restaurant when Gu Hengsheng called, and Gu Qingyue answered the call in front of Shu Miaomiao.

After she hung up the phone, Shu Miaomiao blinked and asked knowingly, "Are you together?"

Gu Qingyue nodded happily under her gaze.

Shu Miaomiao raised the small ceramic wine cup in her hand, clinked glasses with hers, and said, "I'm happy for you."

Gu Qingyue smiled, and Shu Miaomiao curiously inquired, "Will it be difficult to adapt to suddenly becoming lovers?"

Gu Qingyue held her chin with one hand, thought for a moment, and shook her head: "No."

Shu Miaomiao nodded and said, "That's right, back then you were just like in a relationship."

"How could that be?" Gu Qingyue said, "At that time, I only regarded him as an elder who I could talk to."

"But every time you go back to see Teacher Gu, you dress up." Shu Miaomiao hit the nail on the head.

Gu Qingyue smiled embarrassedly.

Shu Miaomiao continued, "It's true that a bystander sees more clearly."

"Well, I'm in the wrong." Gu Qingyue said.

Shu Miaomiao suddenly had an idea and blurted out: "Have you decided when to get married?"

Gu Qingyue reminded Shu Miaomiao: "We've only been together for less than a week, it's a bit too early to talk about this."

Shu Miaomiao was right, and then added, "But Teacher Gu is no longer in the late marriage era."

This week, Gu Qingyue and Gu Hengsheng had a short phone call each day, often lasting only half an hour. During this time, Gu Qingyue took the key Gu Hengsheng had given her and went to his residence. Zaisif, unfazed by her presence, threw himself on her lap and let her rub him.

The day Gu Hengsheng returned to Huai City was a weekend. Gu Qingyue stayed up all night the night before and went to bed after lunch. She fell into a drowsy sleep, but it didn't take long before she was woken up by a phone call.

She pressed the answer button. It was Gu Hengsheng. The anger she had felt at being woken up instantly disappeared. He said on the other end, "I'm downstairs."

Gu Qingyue was almost awake. She threw back the quilt, got out of bed, and ran to the window.

There was a black car parked downstairs. Gu Qingyue walked back to the closet barefoot again. She opened the closet and took out clothes to change into.

Gu Hengsheng sat in the driver's seat. He answered the phone while rolling down the passenger window.

The tightly closed vermilion door was opened, and a sharp-edged rectangular grid was leaning against the steps. Then, Gu Qingyue walked out, her long hair loose, and she was wearing a burgundy sweatshirt and light blue to white jeans.

She walked towards the parked car, and when her hand fell on the car door, Gu Hengsheng caught a glimpse of her fingers painted with dark red nail polish, the color of spilled wine staining her nails.

"Didn't you say it would take two more days?" Gu Qingyue fastened her seat belt and turned to ask the man beside her.

"I'm afraid if we're two days late, someone will go to see the little boy." Gu Hengsheng hung up the phone, his words rarely containing a hint of joking.

The last time Gu Qingyue talked to him on the phone, she mentioned that she was accompanying her mother to see a drama. Her mother's friend also brought her son to watch the drama. The aunt jokingly asked Gu Qingyue if she had a boyfriend, and if not, she might as well consider the one in her family.

Hearing this, Gu Qingyue leaned over to him, kissed him on the face, and said, "I only love you."

Without waiting for Gu Hengsheng's response, she sat back in the passenger seat. Gu Hengsheng shook his head and smiled, his eyes full of tenderness. He said, "Qingyue, you will spoil me."

Gu Qingyue disagreed and said, "I do."

She took off the hair tie at her wrist, looked in the rearview mirror, and combed her hair back into a high ponytail.

After the car drove out of the residential complex, Gu Qingyue took off her hair tie again, letting her hair fall over her shoulders. Seeing this, Gu Hengsheng smiled and said, "Why did you tie it and then take it off?"

Gu Qingyue stared at the rearview mirror, raised her hand to smooth her hair, and turned to look at Gu Hengsheng: "I think it looks better with my hair down, what do you think?"

Gu Hengsheng stared at her for a moment, as if thinking about how to answer. After a moment, he said, "Yes, put it down so it looks better."

Gu Qingyue raised her eyebrows: "The answer should be, I look good no matter what, let's do it again."

Gu Hengsheng let out a laugh from his throat, with an indulgent look on his face, and said, "Okay, give me another chance."

Gu Qingyue cleared her throat and asked seriously, "Do you think I look better with my hair down or tied up?"

Gu Hengsheng frowned, pretending to think. After two seconds, he said seriously, "In my eyes, you look good no matter what."

Gu Qingyue covered her mouth with her hands, her eyebrows curved, and she looked extremely happy.

Only when the car drove into the underground parking lot of the shopping mall did Gu Qingyue ask where they were going.

Gu Hengsheng was looking for an empty spot in the parking lot. He spun the steering wheel with one hand and said, "Let's go to the movies."

Hearing this, Gu Qingyue sat up straight and asked curiously what movie it was.

Gu Hengsheng mentioned the title of the film. It was a science fiction movie. There were many movies in this series, and every time they were released, they would cause a craze. But unfortunately, Gu Qingyue was not part of this craze.

"Wen Kui recommended it, saying you guys would probably like it at your age." Gu Hengsheng took a closer look at her expression and said, understandingly, "It seems Wen Kui guessed wrong. You don't really like this kind of movie?"

Gu Qingyue nodded frankly and added, "But I don't rule it out. Perhaps this can be considered a new attempt, and it might make me like movies of this theme."

Gu Hengsheng added: "If you feel bored, we can leave midway."

"Okay," she said.

In the underground parking lot, the view was dim. Gu Hengsheng came over and held Gu Qingyue's hand. They took the elevator to the top floor and got their tickets. There were popcorn and cola for sale at the counter, and Gu Hengsheng asked her if she wanted any.

Gu Qingyue shook her head and said no.

The two entered the movie theater. Inside, besides boys and girls around Gu Qingyue's age, there were also parents with their children. Gu Qingyue and her family sat in the middle of the sixth row. To Gu Hengsheng's right was a family. A delicate little girl, about five years old, with a round face, sat adorably on her father's lap. Perhaps because of her parents' prior instructions, once the movie started, the little girl quietly ate a bucket of popcorn.

During the film, when the movie was about to end, the little girl accidentally knocked over the popcorn in her hand, and a few pieces fell on Gu Hengsheng's knees. The little girl said sorry to Gu Hengsheng in a baby voice.

The cinema's ceiling lights came on, casting a gentle, dim yellow light that made Gu Hengsheng's face look even more gentle. He looked at the little girl gently, smiled, and said, "It's okay."

Seeing this, Gu Qingyue's mind moved slightly. She grasped his sleeve, stood on tiptoe behind his ear, and said softly: "You should be a good father in the future."

Gu Hengsheng turned his head and stared at her face. His eyes were burning, and Gu Qingyue's face slowly began to burn.

When we came out of the cinema, it was almost time for dinner.

The two went to the supermarket downstairs to buy ingredients, planning to go back and cook dinner. Gu Hengsheng pushed the shopping cart, and Gu Qingyue took his arm. Then she remembered something and looked up at him: "I have to admit something to you."

"What?" Gu Hengsheng tilted his head slightly.

"The food I asked you to cook was all from a variety show," she said. "It wasn't a sudden inspiration."

Gu Hengsheng reacted calmly. He smiled slightly and said, "I know."

Gu Qingyue asked unexpectedly: "You know, when did you know?"

"The time when Chen Jing returned to China." he said.

They drove back to their residence. Gu Hengsheng took off his coat, put the bag on the counter, took out the ingredients one by one and put them in the refrigerator.

Gu Qingyue opened a bottle of Coke, took a sip, and said slowly, "I won't be going back tonight."

Gu Hengsheng looked at her and asked, "Have you told your second sister-in-law?"

"I've already said that." Gu Qingyue said.

Because it was dinner and they didn't want to eat leftovers tomorrow, they made steak and pasta. Gu Hengsheng fried a steak in a frying pan. Gu Qingyue looked at his back and said, "My cooking skills are pretty good now. I'll make it for you another day and let you try it."

"Okay." Gu Hengsheng said, and then asked, "How well done do you want it?"

"Seven points." Gu Qingyue said again, "Can I have a drink later?"

Gu Hengsheng turned around, looked at her closely, and said, "Okay."

After dinner, Gu Qingyue went to the bathroom to wash up. She didn't bring any pajamas, so Gu Hengsheng gave her his clothes. A white long-sleeved shirt and black shorts were ill-fitting for him, as he was tall and long-legged. It looked like a child stealing an adult's clothes, which was quite funny.

Gu Qingyue folded her sleeves several times. The waistband of her pants was too big, so she tied the excess part with a hair tie.

She walked out of the bathroom. He had turned off the bedroom ceiling light, leaving only an orange wall lamp, which gave off a dim and soft light.

Gu Hengsheng was sitting on the bed with a notebook on his legs. When he saw her come out, he closed the notebook and put it on the bedside table.

Gu Qingyue stood by the bed, took a deep breath, and said, "I'm a little nervous."

"If you feel uncomfortable later, we can stop," he said.

Gu Qingyue covered her face and squatted on the ground. After a moment, she hugged her knees in frustration and asked him cautiously, "Does it hurt?"

Gu Hengsheng was both amused and confused. He lifted the quilt, got out of bed, put one hand on her shoulder, and with the other hand through her knees, he carried her to the bed and said, "You need to tell me about this question later."

Gu Qingyue didn't know how to describe this feeling. She felt like a scorched, sun-dried tea leaf, and he was like warm water in a transparent glass. The room was like a transparent glass, slowly expanding and unwinding under the hot water. In the latter part, it was as if a naughty child picked up the glass and shook it vigorously, causing the tea leaves to flip and rise in the warm water.
