Chapter 11

The group played until nearly ten o'clock before disbanding.

Several young men and women were waiting for a bus on the street, chatting and laughing, and from time to time they would burst into laughter, attracting the attention of passers-by.

Song Xiaoshu stood a few steps away, one hand in his pocket, listening to what the boy opposite was saying.

A breeze blew by, and a strand of hair fell on the corner of her eye. Gu Qingyue blinked, raised her hand to brush it away, and met Song Xiaoshu's gaze. His eyes lingered on her face for a moment, then he frowned slightly, as if remembering something. He walked over to Gu Qingyue, took out his phone, and said, "Add a contact number?"

As soon as he finished speaking, several boys who came with him whistled, and the atmosphere suddenly became a little subtle.

Song Xiaoshu ignored him, a faint smile on his face. When Gu Qingyue pulled out her phone, she didn't seem to mind. After all, she and Song Xiaoshu had met a few times when they were children, and it wasn't unusual for him to ask for her contact information. She took out her phone and added Song Xiaoshu as a WeChat friend.

Shu Miaomiao watched from the side. After Song Xiaoshu left, she leaned over to Gu Qingyue's ear and whispered, "Okay, Qingyue, you have one more suitor."

"Miaomiao, don't joke."

"Then why doesn't he come and ask me for his contact information?" Shu Miaomiao joked.

Gu Qingyue smiled but said nothing.

When she returned to the dormitory, Gu Qingyue received a call from her mother and they chatted for a few minutes.

When Gu's mother mentioned that Gu Hengsheng had moved to a new house, Gu Qingyue asked, "Where is it?"

"It is said that it is quite close to your school, about half an hour's drive away." said Gu's mother.

"So are we going to buy gifts for the new house?"

"Yes." Mother Gu smiled, "However, I've been a little busy lately, so I thought you could go there on my behalf this weekend and bring the gift to your Third Uncle."

"Okay." Gu Qingyue said, and suddenly remembered Su Xi's mention of Gu Hengsheng's generosity. She was curious for a moment, "Mom, what birthday gift did your third uncle give you?"

"Why do you ask that?"

"A little curious."

"A brooch." Mother Gu said casually, "Are you planning to come back tonight or tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow," Gu Qingyue said, "Today is my classmate's birthday, and we just arrived at the dormitory now."

"Okay, let your sister pick you up tomorrow."

The next day, Su Xi drove to pick her up.

Gu Qingyue got in the car, and Su Xi said, "Qingyue, have you ever thought about buying a car? I see quite a few small cars parked downstairs in your dormitory. Are they owned by students?"

"Yes." Gu Qingyue said sullenly, "But with my current savings, I probably can't afford a car."

"How about I, as your sister, give you one?" Su Xi suggested with a smile.

"No," Gu Qingyue explained, "Besides, I'm still a student. Driving a car would be a bit too conspicuous."

Su Xi smiled. She looked around and said, "I heard from Aunt Zhou that your third uncle bought a property in Huai City, right here."

There was a shopping mall nearby, and the real estate was quite expensive. Students from their school would come here every weekend to hang out. Gu Qingyue glanced through the car window, wondering which house he had bought.

"Yes, but the exact location is not clear." Gu Qingyue said.

After Su Xi sent Gu Qingyue home, she did not go into the house and drove away.

Gu Qingyue opened the door with the key and went to the study to get the new house gift prepared by Gu's mother. Gu Qingyue leaned against the desk and sent a text message to Gu's mother, asking about the specific location of Gu Hengsheng's residence.

Two minutes later, I received a reply from Gu's mother.

Gu Qingyue went downstairs, and Aunt Xu asked, "Are you going out?"

"Well, I won't be back for dinner this afternoon."

Gu Hengsheng asked Chen Jing to buy this house. Chen Jing had a classmate who worked in real estate and introduced him to several houses. The houses were close to the Academy of Sciences and there were shopping malls nearby, so the transportation was convenient.

Chen Jing has been coming to Gu Hengsheng's residence these days, under the pretext of seeing if he needs anything. After a few words, the topic turned to persuading Gu Hengsheng to substitute teach at S University.

Gu Hengsheng held a cup of coffee, smiled and said nothing.

Chen Jing tried his best to persuade him, but to little avail. He felt inexplicably frustrated: "Hengsheng, why didn't I know before that you are so unreasonable?"

As soon as he finished speaking, there was a ringing sound outside the door.

Gu Hengsheng put down the cup, stood up and opened the door.

Gu Qingyue stood outside the door and called out awkwardly, "Uncle San, my mother asked me to bring this to you."

Gu Qingyue shook the box in her hand, then remembered that there was a tea set inside. She cried out, "Ouch!" and hugged the box in her arms: "I almost forgot, there is a tea set in here. It shouldn't break, right?"

"Not really." Gu Hengsheng smiled, took the gift box from her hand, and said, "Come in."

Gu Qingyue walked in and saw a pair of men's leather shoes at the entrance. She said, "Do you have guests?"

Chen Jing came over when he heard the voice, looked Gu Qingyue up and down, then turned his gaze to Gu Hengsheng, as if asking who this was?

Gu Qingyue knew Chen Jing and called out respectfully, "Teacher Chen."

Chen Jing looked puzzled, but he nodded to Gu Qingyue and said, "Are you a student at S University?"

"Yes," Gu Qingyue said, "I took your course 'Appreciation of Modern and Contemporary Poetry' as a freshman, so Professor Chen probably doesn't have much of an impression of it."

Gu Hengsheng was a little surprised and looked at Chen Jing: "You also teach poetry?"

"I studied Chinese for a year in my undergraduate studies. Have you forgotten?" Chen Jing said.

Gu Hengsheng asked Gu Qingyue: "What would you like to drink? Tea or coffee?"

"Coffee." Gu Qingyue said, and added, "Thank you."

Gu Hengsheng smiled.

Only Chen Jing and Gu Qingyue were left in the living room.

Chen Jing asked, "You call Hengsheng Third Uncle?"

"yes."

Chen Jing said with a smile, "I didn't even know he had a niece as old as you."

Chen Jing seemed to have thought of something and said, "That's just right, classmate Gu, please persuade your third uncle for me."

"What?" Gu Qingyue was confused.

Chen Jing said, "Persuade your third uncle to come to S University to substitute for a class."

Gu Hengsheng happened to come out holding a cup of coffee. Upon hearing this, he smiled faintly and said, "Chen Jing, you're desperate and trying all kinds of treatments."

"You knew I was seriously ill, so why didn't you offer a helping hand?" Chen Jing complained. "It's a shame that we've been classmates for three years."

Gu Qingyue held the cup, sipping the coffee with her eyes fixed on her nose.

Chen Jing looked at Gu Qingyue and said, "Student Gu, Teacher Chen needs your help."

Gu Qingyue looked embarrassed and glanced at Gu Hengsheng helplessly.

Gu Hengsheng came to the rescue: "Don't embarrass the kid."

Chen Jing sighed, and Gu Hengsheng laughed and said, "I'll think about it for two more days and give you an answer."

After Chen Jing left, Gu Qingyue asked, "Third Uncle, are you and Teacher Chen classmates?"

"High school classmate." Gu Hengsheng said.

"oh."

Gu Hengsheng looked at his watch and asked, "Have you had lunch?"

"not yet."

"Stay for lunch?"

"Okay." Gu Qingyue smiled, "Thank you."

Gu Hengsheng was helpless: "Qingyue, you are too polite."

"It's always better to be polite." Gu Qingyue said.

"Yes." Gu Hengsheng asked, "What do you want to eat?"

"Borscht, is that okay?" Gu Qingyue thought of the food show she watched last night, in which the episode was about making borscht.

"Just drink the soup?" Gu Hengsheng suggested, "How about creamy carbonara pasta?"

"Okay." Gu Qingyue said subconsciously, "Will you do it?"

"Yes." He looked down at her, "Or do you want to do it?"

"No, I'm a kitchen idiot." Gu Qingyue hurriedly shook her head and said self-deprecatingly, "I can't even cook instant noodles properly."

Gu Hengsheng turned around and went into the kitchen. Gu Qingyue sat in the living room and drank a sip of coffee. Then she felt that it was not a good idea for her to just sit back and enjoy the fruits of others' labor.

She gently put down the cup, got up and went to the kitchen.

Gu Hengsheng was holding a knife and cutting beef. He was very skilled with the knife and it was obvious that he was someone who cooked frequently.

Gu Qingyue leaned against the door frame and said softly, "Is there anything I can help you with?"

"Just sit outside and watch TV." Gu Hengsheng glanced at her and said so.

Gu Qingyue didn't leave and still stood at the door.

After Gu Hengsheng finished cutting the beef, he turned around and found her still standing at the door. He thought for a moment and said, "Qingyue, come and wash the onions."

"Okay." Her voice was filled with excitement.

Gu Hengsheng shook his head and smiled.

He really has the mentality of a child.

After peeling the outer layer of the onion, Gu Qingyue thought for a moment, then took the knife and cut two pieces. The onion's spiciness rushed straight to her eyes, and her eyes were slightly moist from the spiciness. Gu Qingyue blinked and muttered softly, "It turns out that onions really can make people cry."

Hearing this, Gu Hengsheng took out two tissues and gave them to her: "It seems that you have never cooked before."

"I never tell lies."

"Oh, really?" Gu Hengsheng asked.

"You don't believe it?"

"No." Gu Hengsheng said, "I just don't understand you yet."

Gu Qingyue washed her hands, wiped the corners of her eyes, and was about to continue fighting with the onion when she accidentally touched the knife on the chopping board and the knife hit the floor.

There was a sharp, dull sound, and both of them jumped in surprise.

Gu Qingyue subconsciously bent down to pick it up, but Gu Hengsheng picked up the kitchen knife before her and said, "I'll do it."

"It seems that I am not compatible with the kitchen." Gu Qingyue said in a muffled voice, with a hint of anger and pity for his misfortune.

Gu Hengsheng smiled, intending to divert her attention: "How about I teach you a good way to cut onions?"

"What?" Gu Qingyue was interested.

"Cut the onion into four pieces, then put it in cold water, wait for about ten minutes, and then take it out. It won't sting your eyes." He said, "You can try it."
