Are you going to bring me food?
"President Tang." Liu Ping's slightly surprised voice came through.
"Hmm." Tang Yizhuo responded calmly, then put his hand on Xu Luoluo's shoulder and pulled away slightly before asking, "You two have an important meeting tomorrow, why did you drink so much?"
There was a hint of reproach in his tone.
"We had a few drinks today because we were in a good mood." Liu Ping chuckled and stepped forward to pull Xu Luoluo away. "Actually, we didn't drink much. Luoluo can't hold her liquor very well. We're sorry to have troubled you, Mr. Tang."
When Xu Luoluo saw him reach out, she staggered and tried to run away again.
"If you can't hold your liquor, you shouldn't have been drinking." Tang Yizhuo calmly shielded her behind him. "You've had quite a bit to drink too. I'll take her home."
Liu Ping was somewhat unwilling to give up and was prepared to pull her back again.
Xu Luoluo suddenly had a flash of inspiration and quickly said, "Then I'll have to trouble President Tang."
"Okay, then we'll be going now." He nodded to Liu Ping, turned around, and took Xu Luoluo's arm to lead her out.
Liu Ping wanted to follow them, but the waiter stopped him and said the bill hadn't been paid yet. He couldn't help but curse at the two people's retreating backs before turning around and following the waiter to pay the bill.
"Can you walk by yourself?" Tang Yizhuo asked coldly after walking for a while outside.
"Okay." She answered with her head held high. Before she could even swing her arm, Tang Yizhuo released her slender arm.
Tang Yizhuo stood there with his arms crossed, watching as the woman nearly stumbled into the sewer after only a few steps. He quickly reached out and scooped her up, not forgetting to make a sarcastic remark: "You drank so much, are you trying to throw yourself into someone's arms like this?"
"Don't be disgusted, it's all because of you!" Xu Luoluo felt nauseous as he gripped her waist, and struggled to stand up straight, but this time she held onto his arm tightly. She now knew she was really drunk and needed to cling to this lifeline.
The "lifeline" scoffed, "What does this have to do with me? Let go."
Xu Luoluo wouldn't let go, looking up at him with a pout, her eyes red, as if she was about to cry at any moment.
Tang Yizhuo softened his tone, speaking as if coaxing a child: "Let go, it's hard to walk like this. Let me help you, okay, grandma?"
"That's more like it." Xu Luoluo finally let go of his hand, and he helped her sway as they walked towards the hotel. "Tell me, did you think I didn't speak well today? If it weren't for not wanting to embarrass myself tomorrow, would I have come to dinner?"
"When did I say you didn't speak well?" Tang Yizhuo frowned.
"During the meeting, you didn't even listen to my part. Are you that bad?" Xu Luoluo was angry just thinking about it. "I can ignore you since noon, but aren't you always supposed to keep public and private matters separate? Why don't you point out the problems in the meeting and leave me to guess?"
"You keep talking, why are you staring at me like that?" Tang Yizhuo was both amused and exasperated that it was about this. He happened to have an important email at the time, and after listening to her proposal, he felt there were no problems and lowered his head to reply to the email.
"Aren't you the person in charge?" Xu Luoluo said matter-of-factly. "Shouldn't I see how you react?"
Tang Yizhuo was silent for a moment, then asked, "What does this have to do with you and Liu Ping getting so drunk?"
"It's your fault for ignoring me!" Xu Luoluo twisted a few times in anger, trying to break free from him, but he pulled her back and broke her strength. She had no choice but to give up and pout. "Liu Ping said he would give me some advice, so I had no choice but to try anything in my desperation."
Tang Yizhuo stopped in his tracks, and Xu Luoluo was also forced to stop, struggling to focus her gaze on him.
After a long silence, Tang Yizhuo slowly spoke: "Are you stupid?"
Xu Luoluo opened her mouth but didn't speak. She felt like she'd been kicked in the head by a donkey, and could only mutter softly, "I..."
She tried to vomit for a while but couldn't, and then a wave of nausea rose in her stomach. She leaned on Tang Yizhuo and started to dry heave.
In that evening, she hadn't eaten anything, so naturally she didn't vomit anything, but her stomach felt even worse, and her head was spinning. She could only barely stand by leaning on Tang Yizhuo.
"Rest...rest for a while before you go." It took her a long time to manage to utter a sentence.
Tang Yizhuo was gently patting her back when he heard her weak voice and frowned. He put one arm around her and used the other to lift her face to check, only to find that she had her eyes closed in pain and her face was very pale.
"Why are you still trying to be brave when things are like this?" He frowned, turned around, lifted her onto his back, and headed towards the hotel.
Xu Luoluo felt extremely dizzy and kicked her legs, complaining, "Steady up, or I'll throw up on you."
"Just be honest with yourself, if you want to throw up, then throw up." Tang Yizhuo lifted her up a little more, quickened his pace, and added, "But I'm dressed in haute couture today, so if you throw up, the original price will be credited to my account."
Although Xu Luoluo was still drowsy, she couldn't help but shut her mouth tightly and suppress the nausea rising in her body when she heard these words.
Without her interference, Tang Yizhuo quickly got on the elevator, carried her to the room door, and put her down. Although Xu Luoluo was still dazed, the moment Tang Yizhuo put her down, she instinctively grabbed the doorknob, closed her eyes, frowned, and slumped against the door.
Tang Yizhuo had picked up her bag to look for her access card, but seeing her leaning there with a pained expression, and subconsciously biting her lip, he sighed and reached out to brush away a stray strand of hair that was blocking her eyelashes.
He put down her bag, pulled her hands off the door, picked her up and carried her a few steps. He stopped at the door of another room, swiped his room card, and opened the door.
In her daze, Xu Luoluo felt herself being put on the bed, but she was too drowsy to fall asleep or wake up, and felt dizzy. She didn't know how much time had passed before she was pulled up again and forced to drink water, cup after cup. She didn't feel thirsty, but felt full and shook her head, not wanting to drink anymore. However, she was still forced to drink several cups by the back of her head before they stopped.
But a moment later she called out again, "Tang Yizhuo!"
"What?" Tang Yizhuo's annoyed voice came from the side.
"I feel like throwing up again."
"..."
A short while later, Tang Yizhuo carried her to the bathroom. By then, she was a little more lucid and knew to care about her image. She endured the discomfort and pushed Tang Yizhuo out before closing the door and vomiting violently into the toilet.
Who knew that after vomiting until the very end, she was so exhausted that she saw stars, her head was so heavy that she couldn't even sit up, and she could only collapse on the ground, panting. She could hear her heart pounding rapidly, as if she could hear her blood vessels bursting. She stared at the ceiling with her eyes open, desperately wondering if she was going to die, if she was going to drink herself to death.
However, she didn't die; she just fainted. This was the first thought that popped into Xu Luoluo's mind when she woke up the next morning.
This wasn't her room. That was the second thought. Although it was pitch black with the blackout curtains drawn, her room was a double room, and she was sitting on a single bed.
But she wasn't particularly panicked. She had a vague recollection of yesterday's events until she vomited into the toilet, after which her memory went blank. But she was certain that Tang Yizhuo had brought her to this room. That meant she hadn't been kidnapped and sold.
She reached around and couldn't find her phone, so she reached for the bedside lamp switch and turned it on easily.
The bedside lamp wasn't very bright, but it was enough for her to see Tang Yizhuo on the opposite bed, who was frowning, opening his eyes, and then reaching out to block out the light.
"Good morning...ah." She had been up all night and didn't know when he had finally fallen asleep. Now that she had woken him up again, Xu Luoluo didn't know what to say. She awkwardly greeted him and, seeing him staring at her without moving, added even more awkwardly, "So you have two beds in your room."
Tang Yizhuo finally reacted. He turned over and stopped looking at her, his voice hoarse from just waking up: "Go back to your room and take a shower when you're awake, so you don't smell bad and upset the investors."
Xu Luoluo subconsciously sniffed herself, then remembered the miserable state she had in the bathroom yesterday. She felt too ashamed to face anyone, so she jumped up, grabbed her bag, and rushed out.
A sleepy voice drifted from behind: "Make sure no one's around before you go out. Don't let anyone see me and ruin my reputation."
"I know!" she replied irritably, then peered through the peephole into the hallway. "I was worried about ruining my reputation."
Fortunately, it was still early and probably no one was up yet; the hallway was empty. She took out her card in advance, quickly opened and closed the door, rushed to her room, swiped the card, and entered in one smooth motion.
It should have remained undiscovered, but there are always some observant people in the world who can uncover secrets that shouldn't be discovered.
Xu Luoluo was unaware of this. After closing the door, she leaned against it, panting heavily, and realized that she really should go and take a shower.
After taking a shower, Xu Luoluo dried her hair, straightened her original wavy curls, and only added a slight curl at the ends.
She was going to Company G in the afternoon. Before, when she was in administration, she always dealt with internal matters. This was her first time meeting with a client. She was finally going to stand on the front line to face the client, and she felt quite like she was facing a formidable enemy.
She applied light makeup in front of the mirror, then decided against using her usual bright red lipstick, finding it too aggressive. She preferred a more subtle and gentle approach to negotiation.
So she applied a soft mauve lipstick, and took out a light pink chiffon blouse and light gray high-waisted wide-leg pants from the box, paired with matching high-heeled leather shoes.
After finishing her outfit, she picked up her gray laptop bag and looked at herself in the full-length mirror by the door. Her eyes were bright and she looked energetic and in perfect condition, showing no trace of the disheveled and haggard appearance she had shown the previous night. Suddenly, Tang Yizhuo's voice floated into her mind: "Don't you even think about who you owe this all to?"
Thinking of this, she took out her phone and sent a WeChat message:
Thank you for yesterday.
Tang Yizhuo replied quickly:
"Saying thank you verbally is not sincere, but treating me to a meal is."
Sure, I won't do a losing business, that's very Tang Yizhuo.
She had thought he was being kind-hearted and wanted to make a selfless contribution yesterday, but she was wrong.
"Okay, but I'll decide the time and place." She thought for a moment. Su Ze's scandal was already enough to cause her controversy. Even if Liu Ping's incident yesterday was just him standing up for justice, she couldn't let others see it and misunderstand. So she added an additional condition.
"Okay." Tang Yizhuo agreed readily. "I'm going back to sleep. Call me at one o'clock to wake me up."
Is he using her as a human alarm clock? The meeting is at 2:30, but he's sleeping until 1:00, skipping dinner. He must be really exhausted. What did she do after she blacked out last night?
Knowing she was in the wrong, Xu Luoluo resignedly replied, "Okay, President Tang."
"President Tang" ignored her again, it seemed he really had gone back to sleep. Why did he reply so quickly just now? Could he have been woken up by her? The more she thought about it, the more guilty she felt. When she went downstairs to eat, she inexplicably packed some food to take upstairs with her.
"He's supposed to be a manager, yet he doesn't even bring an assistant with him." Xu Luolu stared at the takeout, seemingly complaining to someone. "I'm supposed to be a 'capable assistant,' so how did I end up doing the work of an assistant?"
But, this could be considered treating him to dinner, right? Thinking about it this way, she immediately felt relieved and even thought she was a bit clever.
To her surprise, Tang Yizhuo didn't take the bait. She dialed the number precisely at one o'clock, and he answered the phone before it had even rung a few times, lazily praising, "Not bad, very punctual."
"Of course." Xu Luoluo had a little something on her mind, so she probed, "The meeting is about to start, aren't you going to eat something?"
"What, are you bringing me food?" Tang Yizhuo chuckled.
Just as Xu Luoluo was about to take advantage of the situation, he said seriously, "There's no time. I'll definitely feel sleepy if I eat. I'll just have some bread to tide me over."
"Ah...oh." Xu Luoluo shut her mouth reluctantly.
"I'm so disappointed, you're not planning to just give me a boxed lunch to get by, are you?"
What kind of monster is Tang Yizhuo? How could he guess that? Xu Luoluo quickly retorted confidently, "Can you stop being so cynical? I finally showed you some concern, and you misinterpreted it like this. I'm so heartbroken!"
"I see." Tang Yizhuo said with a smile, "I misunderstood. Well then, keep up the good work in the future."
Keep up the good work, my foot! Dream on.
Xu Luoluo angrily hung up the phone, then thought for a moment and sent a message to Chen Shanshan: Boss, is anyone on your end still hungry? I ordered an extra takeout.
