Shui Hongbin was only fourteen years old. When he heard that the Public Security Bureau was looking for them, his face turned pale.
"Binzi, who are you talking to?"
A vicissitudes of life voice came from the room. Shui Hongbin turned around but did not dare to answer him.
"He's your grandfather, right?" Gong Linglong asked him.
Shui Hongbin didn't say anything, but panic and fear appeared on his angular face.
Seeing that he was frightened, Gong Linglong quickly comforted him, "Don't be afraid, little brother. Although the Yu and Meng families have reported the matter to the police, they have recently been linked to enemy spies, and their own family members have also been arrested for violating discipline and laws. They are currently under investigation and will not devote all their attention to looking for you."
Shui Hongbin was obviously relieved when he heard this, and finally spoke, "Why do you want to help us?"
"Because my mother is your grandfather's student. My mother asked me to come to you."
Gong Linglong unnoticeably took out the burn ointment from the space and asked him, "This is your Shui family's unique secret medicine, right?"
When Shui Hongbin saw the ointment, his eyes turned red and he nodded in agreement.
"Little brother, go tell your grandfather that my last name is Gong, as in palace. My grandfather's name is Gong Kaizhou, and my mother's name is Gong Wantang. She was his student at the National Jing Medical College."
Shui Hongbin remembered the name she said and nodded again: "Okay, wait a moment, I'll go tell grandpa."
Less than two minutes later, an elderly man with gray hair, a hunched back, and a thin body came out. He strode over, opened the door, and looked at Gong Linglong with an inquiring look. "Young comrade, are you Gong Wantang's daughter?"
"Hello, Professor Shui, my name is Gong Linglong."
Gong Linglong took off her mask, revealing a face that looked very similar to her mother when she was young.
"Wantang."
When Professor Shui saw her face, he instinctively called out the student's name.
But she quickly realized that this wasn't Gong Wantang, and excitedly stepped forward and asked, "Child, are you really Wantang's daughter? Is Wantang still alive?"
"Professor Shui, when my grandparents' family was in trouble, my mother managed to escape." Gong Linglong didn't say anything else. She took out a photo of mother and daughter from her backpack and showed it to him.
Seeing the student in the photo, Professor Shui confirmed it and said hurriedly, "Child, come in quickly. Let's talk inside."
The house they lived in was very small and dimly lit. There was only a wooden bed in the living room, and apart from a table, there was no decent furniture.
Professor Shui led her into the house and forced a bitter smile. "Xiao Gong, my humble abode is so simple that there's not even a place to sit. I'm sorry, you'll have to stand."
"Professor Shui, you have suffered over the years."
Gong Linglong saw that he was wearing thin and shabby clothes, and there was an unrelieved sadness between his brows. She felt very uncomfortable. Hearing a cough from the inner room, she hurriedly asked, "I asked someone to check on your family yesterday. How are Grandma Shui and Auntie doing now?"
"My daughter came to Seoul for surgery and is recovering relatively well. My wife injured her spinal nerves and has been semi-paralyzed in bed for the past few years. She didn't receive medical treatment or good medicine, and her health has been getting worse and worse."
Gong Linglong saw Shui Hongbin open the bedroom door and said, "Professor Shui, I'm going to see grandma."
Shui Hongbin lit the kerosene lamp in the house and told his grandmother about her identity. Grandma Shui leaned over to look at her, her breath weak, "Little comrade, how did you know we lived here?"
"Grandma Shui, I just came here chasing my little brother." Gong Linglong answered this with her eyes looking at Shui Hongbin.
Shui Hongbin thought he was in trouble and didn't dare to hide it from his grandparents, so he quickly confessed that he and his brother had beaten Yu Nan and Meng Xiaoying last week.
The elders of the Shui family didn't know about this. When they learned that the Public Security Bureau was searching for them, their faces changed drastically. Professor Shui couldn't help but slap him: "You two, you've got yourself into trouble now."
"Grandpa, it was that woman's father who hurt grandma like this, and it was their family who hurt us so badly. When I saw them, I couldn't help but want to take revenge." Shui Hongbin did not regret retaliating and hurting them. The only thing he regretted was that he had brought trouble to his family.
"Binzi, you guys are too impulsive. If anything happens to you, how are your grandfather and I going to survive?"
Grandma Shui started to cry as she spoke, her face filled with sorrow and sadness. She lay on the edge of the bed and urged excitedly: "Old man, hurry up, pack your things, take Binzi and Jiezi away from Seoul, run quickly, and leave me alone."
Shui Hongbin saw his grandfather's dejected face, his already hunched back even more bent, and tears of regret instantly burst out. "Grandpa, Grandma, I'm sorry, I was wrong."
"You are impulsive."
At this point, no amount of scolding or blaming was of any use. Professor Shui seemed to have lost half of his energy and spirit, and his thin and decadent body fell onto the bed.
"Professor Shui, please don't be impatient."
Gong Linglong quickly stepped forward to comfort Shui Hongbin, who was already panicking, "Your name is Binzi, right? Don't panic for now. Go and call your brother and other family members back. Don't let the police find him."
"Yes, Binzi, go and call your aunt and Jiezi back, quickly." Although Grandma Shui was paralyzed, her mind was very clear and she immediately urged the arrangements.
After Shui Hongbin ran out, Gong Linglong hurriedly persuaded the two elders: "Professor Shui, Grandma Shui, don't worry. The Meng and Yu families are in a mess right now. They are too busy to look for the whereabouts of Binzi and his brothers. We still have time to make other arrangements."
"Xiao Gong, please tell us." Professor Shui, who had experienced many storms, quickly calmed down.
After she finished explaining the affairs of the Meng and Yu families, Grandma Shui's heart calmed down a little. She said, "Xiao Gong, to be honest, we returned to Seoul again with the help of a friend. We are using a fake identity now."
Gong Linglong understood what she meant and disagreed. "Grandma Shui, the Binzi brothers look like Professor Shui. Yu Nan identified them based on their appearance. The Public Security Bureau has your family files and portraits. A fake identity might hold up once or twice, but any more than that and it'll be exposed."
"Also, the Yu and Meng families have been in trouble one after another. Meng Xiaoying was just beaten by the Binzi brothers, and then Meng Xiaohang was reported and arrested. The Meng family will definitely put this on you. They will think that someone is using the Shui family for revenge."
"They've been busy these past two days trying to help Meng Xiaohang escape and get his sentence reduced. Once his case is settled, the Meng family will make every effort to investigate and search for your whereabouts."
Professor Shui's face was filled with sorrow, and his voice was filled with unbearable pain. "Xiao Gong is right. Jiezi and Binzi can't stay here any longer. When they come back, I'll have Meirong take them away quickly. From now on, we'll hide our identities and wander around."
