Chapter 217 You Deserve to Be Single

When Commander Zhu and Political Commissar Zhao arrived, the family was bustling with activity. Lu Jingchuan walked to the door and reported, "Commander Zhu, Political Commissar Zhao, Master and my mother are in the room reminiscing about the past. Please come in and have a seat."

"Captain Han J, did you come here specifically to see your mother-in-law?" Commander Zhu asked.

"I don't know."

Lu Jingchuan hadn't inquired about the elders' affairs yet and planned to ask his master later.

Gong Linglong took out two pieces of watermelon from the house, gave them each a piece, and invited them: "Commander Zhu, Political Commissar Zhao, come to our house for lunch at noon and have a drink with Uncle Han."

Seeing that she had already called him "Uncle Han", Commander Zhu and the others smiled and said, "Okay, let them chat and reminisce first, we'll come back later."

"Okay, the food isn't ready yet. I'll call you when it's almost done."

Nearly an hour later, the meal was ready. Jiang Yun and the others helped serve the dishes to the table. Lu Jingchuan went to the study and knocked on the door. "Mom, Master, the meal is ready. Let's eat first and talk after dinner."

"Okay, I'm coming." Bai Narcissus responded.

After they came out, Lu Jingchuan went next door and called the two leaders who were drinking tea over.

Today's lunch was quite rich, with fried duck with old ginger, chicken stewed with dried mushrooms, braised dried fish chunks, lotus root soup with pork shank, and spicy twice-cooked pork. There were also three vegetarian dishes, braised green beans, braised eggplant, and loofah soup. The table was full of five meat dishes and three vegetarian dishes.

Han Ji chatted briefly with the two military district leaders, then sat down together. He said to Bai Shuixian, "Wantang, let them go and take a seat."

"Since this is your first time visiting our home, why not have a drink with Commander Zhu and Political Commissar Zhao?"

Bai Shuixian brought over the wine bowl and asked her son-in-law to pour them some wine. She smiled faintly and said, "My mother and I have lived in the south for many years. We tend to eat spicy food. Most of the dishes contain chili peppers. I wonder if you can get used to it?"

"I'm used to eating this."

Han Ji looked at the table full of food with some emotion and asked her, "Wantang, would you like something to drink?"

"I don't drink, you drink."

Seeing that her son-in-law only poured wine for the three leaders, Bai Shuixian said with a smile: "Jingchuan, pour a glass for your brother as well."

"Thank you, Auntie. I don't drink." Ji Wei declined.

Jiang Yun sat on the same stool with Bai Shuixian. She picked up a duck leg for the chef and gave him an order: "Old man, you are allowed to have a drink today."

Bai Shuixian smiled. She had just chatted with Han Ji for more than an hour and knew that he was still unmarried. Jiang Yun was the descendant of a hero and both her parents died on the battlefield. Later, he adopted her as his adopted daughter and apprentice and raised and taught her by his side.

Ji Wei and his fellow apprentice Lu Jingchuan both came from good backgrounds, all from military and political families. They only became his apprentices after joining the army.

He has devoted all his energy to his work over the years, and these three apprentices were all trained by him. Their current achievements and fame are closely related to his careful teaching.

After everyone was seated, Commander Zhu raised his glass and toasted Han Ji.

They didn't talk about business at the dinner table, but asked a personal question: "Director Han J, have you and Comrade Gong Wantang known each other for a long time?"

When Bai Shuixian had a phone call with Mr. Han in Kyoto before, the main leaders of the army were present and already knew that her real name was Gong Wantang.

"We've known each other since childhood. Our two families are old friends. My father was a student of Grandpa Wantang, and our fathers were also close friends."

The two families took completely different paths, and their fathers had completely different personalities and temperaments, but the friendship between them was very deep.

When the Gong family had an accident, the Han family was not in Kyoto. Han's father was stationed in the eastern army. By the time they received the news that the entire Gong family had an accident, it was already half a month later. The father and son hurried back to Kyoto, but all traces of the accident had been wiped out.

His father had some understanding of Uncle Gong's abilities. He never believed that all the members of the Gong family had died accidentally in the fire, nor did he believe that Gong Wantang was dead. They had been investigating and searching for him over the years.

Bai Shuixian picked up her teacup and clinked it with theirs, laughing as she recounted some of the fun we had experienced together as children. "We often played together as children. The Han family had four sons, and Han Ji was the youngest. My family had two sons and one daughter, and I had two older brothers. I was the youngest, and a girl, so when I visited the Han family during the New Year, I received the most red envelopes and candies."

"All six of those boys combined don't have as much as I do. Every year they're so envious that they shout they don't want to play with me anymore. Especially you, Han Ji. I remember you very clearly. One year you stood at the door with your hands on your hips in anger, refusing to let me in. You even threatened me to share half of my candy with you, otherwise you wouldn't play with me."

"Ha ha..."

When talking about these childhood stories, everyone laughed, and Han Ji also showed a smile on his face.

Jiang Yun laughed the happiest, and after laughing she even scolded him: "Old man, you deserve to be single."

Han Ji: “…”

"Ha ha ha ha..."

Ji Wei and Lu Jingchuan laughed so hard that they almost slammed the table. They didn't dare to be so provocative, only the junior sister dared to do so.

Gong Linglong also laughed non-stop. She really liked Jiang Yun's personality. They were simply kindred spirits, both of whom loved plucking hair from a tiger's head.

"Eat your meal."

Han Ji gritted his teeth after being hit in the sore spot by his apprentice, and raised his glass to clink glasses with Commander Zhu and the others.

Bai Shuixian didn't talk about the interesting things in the past anymore, but warmly invited everyone to eat.

Lu Jingchuan also kept picking up food for Gong Linglong. He had heard her stomach growling a long time ago, so he picked up some of each dish and put it in her bowl. He also poured a bowl of boiling hot chicken soup and placed it next to her to cool.

“Tsk tsk…”

Jiang Yun's eyes were glued to the two of them. Seeing that Second Brother only had eyes for his wife, she was amazed and said to Ji Wei beside him, "Big Brother, if you hadn't seen it with your own eyes, would you dare to believe that this was the great devil Lu Jingchuan?"

"A tough guy with a soft side, do you understand?" Ji Wei whispered.

"You speak as if you understand."

Jiang Yun rolled her eyes at him and added, "If you understood, you wouldn't be single at your age."

Ji Wei met his junior sister quite often and was used to bickering with her: "Don't worry about me, worry about yourself and find a man to marry. Master and I have already prepared your dowry. As long as you bring a man back, we will send you away immediately with your bedding."

Jiang Yun gnashed her teeth, "Are you really that eager to chase me away?"

"As for it, it's even more important now. Only after I drive you away can the master make some plans." Ji Wei said with a smile.

Jiang Yun's face twitched slightly. She understood the hidden meaning behind his words and sighed, "It's time for that stinky old man to get married. If he delays any longer, he'll become a gray-haired old man and no one will want him."
