Born with a mute disability, Meng Yan was ostracized by her relatives. On her sister's coming-of-age day, she was driven out of her home. Along the way, she met a limping old man, became his apprentice, and moved into the valley to begin learning. Within the valley, everyone had their own ailment, yet each possessed a unique skill.

Three years passed in a flash. Meng Yan learned sign language, developed mechanisms, mastered laying flat to sleep, and ran to the kitchen to grab food when hungry. She even took the time to realize her dream: flying around in the sky on a wooden mechanical kite.

The day of her successful test flight was exceptionally lively. Meng Yan (signing): "Stay away, don't come close!" Her junior brothers and sisters replied: "Senior Sister Yan is performing shadow puppets on the big bird! We can't see clearly, let's get closer!" Meng Yan sighed, aimed for her master's hut, and crashed into it.

Money seemed to flow in, but also slipped away considerably. Meng Yan, after calculating the costs, smiled as she grabbed her tools and paid a visit to the neighboring talisman supplier.
